My answer would be that there aren't otherworldly forces that require balance on an Existence-wide scale. That isn't to say that there aren't systems that self-balance (there are countless examples in our world alone), but there aren't magic numbers being added up between all universes or anything. It's a wild west without anything quite so poetic. In Existence, sometimes the bad guys win. Sometimes the good guys win. Usually, which is which isn't completely clear cut.
On the other hand, individual universes can have literally any ruleset you want. There can be a universe that's the same as ours except all bananas are orange, if that tickles your fancy.
