Each school depending on how it's run and where it's located differ- but here is how my high schooling experience was in Minnesota, USA. We had 8 classes every freaking day. We are required to have so many "credits" in each subject ie: Math, English, Social Studies etc etc. So let's say I had to have 3 credits in math. So I took Geometry (1 credit) in 9th grade, Algebra (1 credit) in 10th grade, and then Algebra 2 in 11th grade. Since I have all those credits done by my 11th grade year, My 12 grade year was legitimately all art classes, lunch, and a creative writing class.

Does that make sense?

We'd have 2 semesters every year to switch out some of our classes.
So lets say my schedule is this:

1 Art
2 English
3 Math
4 Science
Lunch
5 Choir
6 Computers
7 Homeroom
8 Cooking

Now, English, Math, Science, and lets say Choir is a 2 part class.
So next semester I'd have all of those classes, but the other classes would be switched out with my new picks.

Thanks! I don't suppose someone could tell this Brit how american schools work? Further than freshman = first year of high school =ninth grade = year 10 I have no knowledge.

I am here to explain things!

Our grades go as follows:
Pre-school (not required), Kindergarten, & then 1st - 12th.
From 1st - 8th grade they are just numbers. 6-8th grade, sometimes just 7-8th is considered Jr High School.
9-12th grade is considered High School. Where we are Freshman, Sophmores, Juniors, Seniors. 9th, 10, 11th, 12th, respectively.

Age that we start school is around 3-5 in Preschool and Kindergarten.
Every school year you age probably a year or so- so most people are between 16-18 when they graduate.

A community/rec center would probably be our best bet.
Might be somewhere a lot of the kids hang out after school? :)
