Nicholas looked at the new person with a blank stare for what seemed like a few minutes before briefly muttering a hello,"Of course but i think such things would not be beneficial only to yourself and not for others....But their is always the opposite opinion of being a superhero to help people but that seems laughable..." He said with a soft chuckle picking up a burger wrapped in tin foil and a cardboard carton of fries.

Devika let out a soft laugh, as she got a sandwich that was piled with meat. "Well, I can't benefit anyone if I can't even handle myself. So, for the first time in my life, it's me first, and then everyone else." She shrugged and smiled a bit. Truthfully, she wasn't so sold on being a superhero. It was an idea she'd considered and discarded earlier in life- she was so unskilled that she'd likely just get killed trying to stop a bunch of punk kids shoplifting. "I don't know if heroism is for me. Maybe I'm too old, or too cynical." She always thought being a hero was for idealists, people who really, really thought the world could be fixed with enough work. People like her parents. She wasn't so sure about that thinking- honestly, she felt like a person could work their life away trying to fix the world... "What about you, Nicholas? You going hero? Maybe going all dark-side on us? Or maybe you're just here to learn, like me?"

Did I miss three mod members approving Kira's character?

No, you didn't. The last I saw, she was Harley and some other person's kid... Oh, wait. Deadpool.

So yeah- I didn't approve it.
Devika smiled faintly. "Hey, Flood. I have been practicing, and I still have the bruises from falling on my fat ass." She shook her head a bit. "Maybe I get too excited or something, but I fall over a lot. Flood, this is Nicholas. Nicholas, this is Flood."
Devika nodded slightly, thinking the students staring was about her. "I figured it was useless too, but where I come from isn't exactly an easy place to live. I'm not trying to be the world's greatest, or anything like that. I just want to be... you know, better than I am. I figure, I'm paying for it, so I might as well get something really good. The book learning I can do almost entirely on my own." She looked around the cafe herself, jaw clenching slightly as she pulled up more of a mental defense. Then she led the way toward the food area, taking time to point out each station. Sandwiches, salad bar, desserts, burgers and fries, seafood... the cafeteria had plenty.

"I mean, this school is all about building yourself up and making yourself better. I'd be a fool if I didn't want to improve all of myself."
Hooray! I'll be here when you return.
*soft laugh* Being restricted to the house can do that... It's good to get writing again. I'm on skype if you feel like talking.
Devika smiled faintly, wondering about Nicholas. There was a calmness about him. Maybe he had a power that needed daily meditation as well. He asked her about herself, and she shrugged mildly. "Ah... About me?" She fiddled with her headband. "I'm twenty two, I want to write books, and... I'm failing my fighting class." She shook her head. "Doing fine with everything else, but I still can't do a side kick without falling and busting my backside."
Kijani heard his voice, so much fear laced through it. She could have sworn he said something about being shot, but the thunder muffled his words. Her lantern swayed violently in the wind, and her dreadlocks whipped her face, her thick hair absorbing water like a sponge. She followed the sound of his voice, struggling against the rain.

The cart seemed to come out of nowhere, with the unconscious or dead horse nearly tripping her up. "Mr. Croil?! Mr. Croil!" She was so sure he'd come this way. Then she saw it, his shape against the cart in the darkness. "Ah! There you are!" Moving toward him, she was startled by another burst of thunder. It took her off guard, and it was very close, so much so that her eyes were left with nothing but a purple afterimage. In her half blinded state, she tripped over her own soaking wet skirt and tumbled. "Ack!" She flinched in obvious pain, and then staggered to a crouch, making the rest of the way to him with a sort of dogged disdain for the storm.

"Mr. Croil, are you alright? I was worried, so I came out!" She frowned, getting a good look at him as she raised her lantern toward his face. The flame was sputtering for life- she must have cracked the lantern when she'd fallen. Mr. Croil's eyes were dark with not just fear, but panic. "Mr. Croil... what's wrong?" Surely a man so tough couldn't be afraid of thunderstorms?
Not needed. I replied.

"I am Nicholas Crane...." He said with a blank look on her face his eyes now on his textbook causally flipping though pages."So...what is your power a dangerous one if i cannot touch your hand?" The young man said waving his hand back at her.

"Er... no." Devika didn't want him to think she was some kind of walking bomb. "I'm an empath. I absorb other people's emotions, and what I do is much stronger when I touch someone. So I try not to touch people, even by accident." She gestured to her outfit, where almost all of her skin was covered by clothing. "I seem to have gotten more sensitive while I've been attending the Academy. That, or there are too many people for me to keep out." She smiled very slightly and gestured with her thumb over her shoulder. "Come on, Nicholas. I'll show you the lunchroom. I've never had a bad meal there, though I could kill for a decent Cuban coffee."
