I'm working on my post, trying to gather the little details that make it really sing. Unfortunately I have to go to bed, it just hit 1am. I apologize for not having it today, but I'll have much more time tomorrow.

"I've had that happen a few times," Gabriel said before taking a sip of his soda. "It's easy to get drawn into something you enjoy anyway, so there's no question as to why. What book are you reading by the way?"Gabriel did actually enjoy reading now and then, though he mostly stuck to a few particular authors and only read new books when he was sure he'd actually like the ideas the book claimed to have.

Kijani showed him the cover while keeping her place in the book with her finger. "Real Murders. Charlaine Harris. It's a murder mystery with an amatuer sleuth librarian. Not exactly high literature. But sometimes I like to take it easy, and read something I don't have to analyze, you know?" She wasn't sure if he did know, or if she was just prattling on without making sense.
Knight, I'm so sorry I missed your post! I kinda covered my ass in my reply. But honestly, I hope we get avatars soon- I'm visually inclined, and the distinctive avatars help me pick out who's interacting with my character in large groups like this. These plain squares aren't cutting it.
Kijani raised her eyebrows and lowered her book, flashing a quick unbidden smile at Gabriel. This wasn't the first time she'd forgotten food. "I.. ah... was going to eat later." In truth she'd tucked away a wrapped sandwich in her inner suit pocket, planning to eat it later in peace. "But I appreciate the gesture." She took what he'd offered her, unwrapped a corner and took a bite. "...and to answer your question, yes. I read a good book, and the rest of the world sort of... leaves." Which is why she never realized she'd accidentally snubbed Ben. She literally had not heard him.

There was one thing that Gabriel forgot to check as he headed out the school doors. If he actually had any money or not. He checked his wallet hoping to find a good amount of money there, but only came up with three dollars. What would that buy him? A McDouble and a Small Fries? That wouldn't be filling enough for lunch..."... I am poor..."Gabriel sighed in frustration, but smirked at his own comment soon after as he headed back into the school. The Cafeteria, if he remembered correctly, was somewhere in the eastern direction from his current position. The smell of food might make the place easier to find as well. When he got there, Gabriel was pleased to see that the food selection wasn't all that bad. If he had been at a food place some of the item selections would have been worth the three dollars he had, but thankfully, this was free food. He grabbed a tray and grabbed three sandwiches, a couple of bags of chips, and a drink. No use being modest about how much he ate, he was hungry! Walking to the tables, he looked for a place to sit. Most places were booked or had a bit too many people around for his liking. There was one table with a lone girl reading a book. That place shouldn't be too much trouble eating and relaxing in peace so long as no more people came and the girl kept to herself."Better than most places I guess..."He headed over there and sat down to eat. Gabriel watched as the other students went about conversations and other minor antics. Typical jokes, spoon bendings, bla bla bla.

Kijani looked up from her dime-store mystery novel (she always had a book tucked away somewhere) to realize that someone had sat down near her. She recognized him, vaguely. He was the one who'd melted a hole in the obstacle course. She met his eyes, smiled briefly, and then returned to her reading and her sandwich. Acknowledging him, but leaving the actual conversation up to him. If he didn't want to talk, she wouldn't blame him. He'd probably taken a seat here for a reason. It wasn't entirely quiet, but it was better than being in the throng of noise from the other students. Maybe he too, was seeking peace and quiet, and she could respect that.
*nod* It helps that Kijani's currently quiet and sticking to the sidelines. Leaves me space to be ignored, and not hold anyone else up.
It's ok, I've been gone for most of the day anyway, so there's no worry about delaying things. Excellent post... So the big city is Verrun, but what's the name of the farming town? Did I miss it?
I was considering leaving as well. I mean, the amount of pages doubled. I don't have all day to RP... but I skimmed the pages and got the gist of everything. I'm not willing to give up on this one yet.
Kijani Ryane

Kijani watched with quite a bit of amusement as several students tried the obstacle course. It seemed a setup for failure, though she did smile as one kid went around the rules entirely by apparently melting a hole in the wall. Now that was thinking. She'd have to keep an eye on him. In the end, though, she was glad that she hadn't been called to perform. She was wearing her good clothes, which were nice and fancy, but restricted her movement. She could do a lot better in gym clothing, and really wanted to show her stuff.

They were dismissed for lunch, and she watched the silent signing redhead vanish with one of the men in black. Curious, very curious. She headed for the cafeteria after a quick introduction and then a goodbye to the polite Anthony. All of these people were starting to get to her, admittedly. She wasn't exactly anti-social. She knew how to talk and be polite. But in this school, she didn't know who she was supposed to be. At home she'd expected to be one Kijani. With her grandmother, another Kijani. With her few high school acquiantances, yet another Kijani. But none of them were quite her. She hadn't formed her new persona for this school, yet, and hoped to get that done as soon as she could.

Once in the cafeteria, she got a sandwich and soup, and sat in the furthest table from anyone else. She needed a book to hide behind.
Kijani picked her head up as the bartender returned. Immediately her emotions withdrew. The urge to cry was forced away, her shoulders went straight. But she was pretty sure he'd seen anyway- and his mentioning of her needing company confirmed that.

"Perhaps." She wasn't going to spill her sob story to this guy. To distract him from his unanswered question, she delicately picked up the shot glass and sniffed lightly. "What is this? It smells good." She sipped just a tiny bit and raised her eyebrows. "It tastes like an orange creamsicle."
