I'm still in, with Achi the therapist and a possible engineer.
@Caits Ooh! You got this, Caits! We believe in you!
Kassy ground her heels into the sand as much as she could, and continued to hold the woman. As she did so, she spoke into Viola's mind.

Yes, I know. This is quite unfair, isn't it? Nothing honorable about choking a person until they're a drooling mess. Pulse knows this, I do as well - I'm sure you know it too, but just in case you don't... There is no honor in true war. Someone wants you dead and there will be no chance to defend, no moment to pick up your sword, just... you die, or you kill.

She could feel the woman scratching at her arms, trying to yank her free. But soon enough the fight started to wane from her.

You're very lucky I do not wish you dead, because my voice would be the last you hear. Maybe when you wake up you'll take a long look at your path.

Viola went limp and Kassy quickly let go, checking the fallen woman's pulse. Still there. With as much speed as she could muster, she pulled the woman across the sand and out of sight. Then Kassy exhaled and reappeared, trying to gather her strength again. Holding an illusion that long was draining - she would eat well tonight. She could hear the struggle of the last member of their group, being attacked by the creatures she'd riled. She wanted to laugh - if only Pulse could be here to see this!

But no, this man was the most dangerous by far and not just due to that gun. Until he was down, this wasn't over. Exhaling, she resummoned the Reece illusion, and rushed over, waving her arms wildly. "Hey, get off him, scat, shoo!"

Kijani's fingers were trembling slightly as she gripped Connor's hand. "Activities. Heh. You make it sound like we're joining the chess club, Con." She tried to smile, but it was forced. She stopped trying quickly, staring at empty stage. "It's so easy for you that you don't even realize it. Be a hero. Help people. Do the right thing. Like one plus one, right? Baby stuff."

She brought her hands up to rub at her face, as if that would clear her mind. "I've been told good and evil are outdated concepts. All there is is the work, and methods of getting it done. No method is more proper or good or evil than another, only more effective in getting . Kill a man? Not without the proper clearance and plan. Kill ten, but to save a thousand? If that is the more effective, then yes. Sometimes I wonder, even now, if my gran-" She shook her head rapidly. "If Amanda Waller wasn't right, about some things. Even admitting that makes me want to puke." Her hand in his started to tremble rapidly. "If she's right about that, what else is she right about? What if she's right about m-" She choked on the word as if she really were going to vomit, and bit back a sob.

What if in the end, Kijani wasn't truly meant for anything? What if all her skill, what she'd worked for, what she'd lived through - what if it meant nothing? No one would take her for a hero, and the thought of being a villain, of becoming like her...

She would rather be dead than become that.
@Caits Kijani will probably be very quiet about the prospect of actual hero work. That and her questions to Bruce... Maybe Connor wants to nudge her into talking?
*claws my way back to life* SO I've had 4 jobs in 4 months and the cuurrent one is full time. Yeah, my life is changing so fast I think I have whiplash. I'm going to try and post this weekend.

How are you Shade?
Made a Kassy post. Kijani and Jin laater.
Kassy was shaking slightly as she sat in the back of Mimic's class. This whole business made her afraid. She knew how to fight, in theory. The sea was full of dangers, and creatures that might find a mermaid to be tasty. She'd tussled with a hungry shark or two, so she could defend herself. This was something different - this was defending others. It wouldn't be her failure, it would be livelihoods and lives lost if she failed. When she failed. Old, hateful words rose up in her memory and she pushed them back, back into the deep, dark, hadal parts of her mind.

"I would-" She was surprised to hear her own voice. "I would like to go first... with whoever will join me."

Jin took a look at the kneeling Yamamoto and scowled fiercely. They strode forward and gripped him by the arm. "Get up, dammit. Don't push your face in the dirt for him." Jin's fist was clenched, but their face was burning with secondhand embarrassment. The fact that they didn't know Yamamoto all that well to begin with didn't seem to matter.

"Listen, Yamamoto-san." Jin continued to try to pull the kneeling boy up. "You don't beg, alright? What we're about to face, there's not going to be any time for pleading or bargaining or none of that shit. You pick a path, you take that path - if that path is a dead end, you don't sit and weep about it." Ironic - Jin seemed to be looking a bit teary. "Besides, the last person you want at your back in a fight is a coward." Jin shot a pointed look at Aki. "Let him go and get up - you're worth ten of him anyway."
I[m having a really hard time with work rightnow. I will try to post by thisweekend.
