Devika sat and waited, watching the others play. She didn't really have a partner, so... there was nothing for her to do.
Kijani could barely hear what was going on around her. Her brain was spinning with thoughts. Could her own grandmother, the one person who'd ever cared about her, ever, really be behind the worst experience of her life? It didn't make sense. It just didn't. Anthony had to be wrong, he had to be mixed up, he had to be messing with her...
Devika shrugged. "Some girl with dreadlocks and some tall guy. Though the tall guy seemed completely uninterested in fighting with her. Sorta took the wind out of the chick's sails pretty quick." She checked her watch and realized that they were running late. "Ah, crap. Now I have to run." She shoveled down a few more mouthfuls of food, and rose up. "I'll see you in the gym, okay?" She headed off to class.
Kijani found herself at the gym with little recollection of walking there or sitting down. She stared at the bowling pins, frowning. Partners, huh? She'd never bowled before, but it couldn't be that hard. But she was wondering what the point was.

John finishes showering, then gets dressed and heads to the cafeteria. He chooses an omelet, then sees Devika. He sits next to her and says with a smile, "Good morning."

Devika looked up, smiling hastily. "Morning, John. You look happy." He felt happy, too, the warmth of his emotion was something that she gratefully sneak past her defenses. "I thought there was going to be a fight in here today... someone got really upset, really fast." She rubbed her temple. "Hit me like a baseball to the face, but luckily it didn't last long." Rearranging her flower headband, she shrugged lightly. "So how're you doing?"
I'm not sure what to do now. Guess I'll sleep. G'night everyone.
I posted. I don't wanna keep you up, though. Short answer: Kijani's in like Flynn.
Kijani could have corrected Anthony, but didn't. In truth, she was training for strength and knowledge, not to particularly go the hero route. She was here because... her grandmother had wished it. Ignoring the way her stomach twisted, she nodded to Anthony. "I absolutely would, Anthony. Let me know if I can help you in your research in any way. Two minds are better than one, and all that." She took a bite of her somewhat forgotten breakfast, and realized that she couldn't taste anything. "I'm pretty sure I can pull a few strings on my end, if we're to be working toward a common goal."
Let it play out!
Strangely, Anthony's lack of reaction to Kijani's beginning to freak out was exactly what she needed. His calm words gave her something to grasp, reminding her that she had to get it under control. She took several deep breaths, ignoring the stink of bleach in her nose, and sat back down, carefully. She kept her eyes shut and made sure she'd gotten past the spell of rage before she spoke again. "Ahem." She cleared her throat and tucked back a loose dreadlock. "Forgive me for my outburst, Mr. Luthor." She looked at him again, but her gaze was much, much less steady. "I did not mean to interrupt. Please, continue."
Uh...

Anthony is very, very lucky Kijani doesn't have powers right now. Because she'd be losing control, the cafeteria's likely full of paper plates and napkins, and he's at the epicenter of a brewing storm.
Kijani listened to Anthony continue, and the rest of the cafeteria noise started to drop away. All the sights, too. Everything was going dark, and her ears were ringing, and the pain in her side started to feel like she was getting torn into all over again-

"SHUT UP!" The words tore from her throat, and she didn't even realize she was on her feet, looming over Anthony. "You... you're.. you're mistaken! Or lying! My grandmother would never do that!" Her voice was filled with rage, but her stance read differently. Her eyes, her shaking hands, the way she was fighting back her own words, as if something else wanted to be said... There was fear written underneath the anger. "What the hell is the point of you telling me this, huh?"

Kijani was starting to smell bleach and copper, like old blood that someone had half-tried to wash away.
