Kassy smiled broadly at the gift. It was a sweet little trinket, clearly handmade, but she could see the love that filled it. "Oh, thank you, Charlie. This will be my best treasure." Then he asked to be taken to relieve himself. "Oh. Er... yes, of course." She frowned a bit, looking around. "Ah." She carefully cradled Charlie in her arms. "Hold on tight." She swam on the surface of the water a bit awkwardly, the boy in one arm kept dry, and her tailfin gently churning the sea. She set Charlie down at a little tidepool, isolated by rocks to the rest of the ocean's current. "Can you go in there? I will make it so that no one sees you, okay?"

The Orphan's Wedding

Kijani let out a low, weak chuckle. "Yes. The air. That must be it." She tried to meet his eyes, but failed at that too. Honestly, she just felt worn out. The nightmares had yet to leave her, though the... incident had happened three weeks ago already. She should have been over it,, but she obviously wasn't. Sometimes it felt like it had happened just hours ago, or was still happening. Those nights were the worst...

She picked up her head somewhat, as Mr. Croil suggested she take a walk. Perhaps he was trying to get her out of his house for as long as possible. Then again, was that a note of sympathy she heard in his voice? A faint, wobbly smile came to her face, fighting for life. "Ah... that sounds like a very nice idea, actually. Just to... get outside. That is what I'm here for, isn't it?" Another weak, half formed laugh. She pushed back a loose dreadlock and tried to look lively. "I'll do just that." Reading always made her feel better, and she had plenty of books. "Feather, if you could just... pack a light lunch out of what's left for breakfast?" They could be eating breakfast for days with what was on the table.

It hit her a bit after the fact that she should thank Mr. Croil. "Ah, sir... Mr. Croil?" Her voice came out a bit higher and girlish than she meant it to. "I... thank you. For putting up with all of this. And..." She managed to meet his eyes, and was surprised to find them as weary as hers felt. For a moment, she forgot what she wanted to say. "...I... thank you for your concern."

The man stalled, turning to Joshua with a dangerous look. "What do you mean 'we'?" He put the safety back on the gun, but still, left it leveled at Josh's chest. It would be an easy thing to shoot Joshua dead from where he was standing. "Get to tellin' the truth, now." His semi-good nature from before was evaporated.

Jinny huddled in the bush, quivering and trying not to panic. She was scared and not at all sure what to do. She missed her knife, she didn't know how to fight, she had no idea what to do. A tiny whimper escaped her lips.

"Just show up before breakfast is being served. I'll be here when the sun starts rising." John says with a grin. "Bring some water."

(Just now realized my post never made it.)

Devika nodded. "I'll be there. But I warn you, I'm a total bear when I have to be up at dawn, so... just be warned." She grinned wide, showing twin dimples in her cheeks. "I'll see you tomorrow, then." She headed back out of the gym, feeling a bit more perky and hopeful. If anyone could make her stronger, she was pretty sure John had the best chance of doing so.

John looks at his watch and says, "I don't have time to show you tonight, but I'll be here in the morning. Meet ya then?"

Devika smiled faintly. "When in the morning?" She would be grouchy if it was too early, but it would be worth it if she could stop being shown up by teenagers.

John chuckles as he walks past her and picks up his water bottle. "Relax," he says, "I just forgot this. What are you doing?"

Devika sighed and turned back to the many machines. "Wondering where I need to start with this exercise business."

Once his shower is done, John dries off and gets dressed. He gets ready to go to his dorm when he suddenly remembers that he had left his water bottle on the race track. John decides to take a short cut to the track by going through the gym when he's surprised to see Devika staring at the equipment, looking clueless. John clears his throat to get her attention.

Devika picked her head up, staring wide eyed and guiltily at John, as if she'd been caught doing something bad. "Ah... hey." She smiled weakly. "...W... what are you doing here?"
