I plop down beside him in my fancy dress, mentally hearing the horror of my stylist and prep team as I do.

"Thank you. That was a little much. I guess... I guess I'm the new talk of the town." I didn't like it.

Suddenly, I felt a wash of nausea flood over me, and my hands went warm. I could see the blood on them. "...why would they root so hard for a murderer, Sam?"
"Hiding is good - uh, thanks everyone, glad to be here, try the roast duck!" And then we were off and running for the elevator. Everything passed in a blur of color, people and sound. The elevator did not have a line (but the bar did) and we stepped onto it. It was made of glass and I could see everything going up. "Whoa..."
(lol Jin doesn't have too much rack to stare at. Nice hips tho)

I am too busy starting around at the hotel to notice him perverted glance at my body.

A few of the Capitalies see me and rush over.

"Oh, it's her, it's the Victor!"

"We saw your game, you were fantastic!"

"Fantastic, she lost me 6,000 dollars!"

"Uh... heh." I am not sure what to say to all of this. "Ah, Sam, help me."
Princess Kijani dreamed.

She was 6 and walking in the hydroponic gardens with her father, Senator Bail Organa. He was tall, and smart, and strong, everything a small child admires in her father. The people loved their Queen Breha and him as well, and were overjoyed at the birth of their daughter.

“Papa?” Kijani looked away from where she was examining the multitude of stars out the window.

“Yes, Kijani?” Bail smiled down warmly.

“How many stars are there?”

“Billions and billions, Kijani.”

Kijani stared upward, her wide golden eyes glittering. “Can we visit them all, Papa?”

Bail laughed. “No, my little Sun. I don’t think that is possible.”

“Awww...” The child pouted. “But I want to meet everyone, all the people on all the planets, and I want to be friends with them!”

Bail laughed again, but this time knelt to the girl’s level and looked to her carefully. “Kijani, there is an important lesson you must learn, and I think you’re about old enough to start learning it now.”

“Okay, Papa.”

He looked her in the eyes. “Kijani, not everyone is going to want to be friends with you, no matter how kind you are. And I know you are a very good and kind girl.”

“...why not?” The very thought seemed to hurt her feelings.

“Because, that is how some people are. You can be the prettiest blossom in the garden, but some people still won’t like flowers. But even to those who don’t like you, you must be kind, and keep your head up high. That’s called diplomacy, little Sun.”

“Oh. I get it.” Kijani wrinkled her nose. “I think.”

“We’ll work on it.”

-

In the present, Kijani stirred and opened her eyes. “Nngh. My head.” The sun was down, and the room was dark and unfamiliar. Her head spun as she tried to get up, but she forced herself to a sitting position. The cloth covering her was rough and looked handspun. “Hello?! Where am I?” What if whoever rescued her was allied with the Empire? She could be in real trouble here. And where was R-2?

Empire loyalists wouldn’t tuck her into bed, would they?

Wouldn’t they?

“Hello, is anyone there?”
"The top floor, huh. Your parents must be loaded, even for Capitol folk." I couldn't stop staring once we got inside, looking at the gleaming gold and silver allayed on what seemed to be every surface. "So this is all just. Normal. You probably don't even look at it anymore, do you?"
"Good." I poked at the PNS until it showed me the home destination. Then I carefully and respectfully got us there, obeying all laws and speed limits. Boring.

After pulling the limo to the curb, I stared up and up at the massive hotel before me. "Whoa... This place is huge!" I felt my neck pop slightly as I tried to see the top.

"What floor do you live on?"
"Good." I smiled briefly at him. "Now don't throw up in the car. I don't want to have to ride with it." I realized that I had no idea where we were. The studio where the show had been filmed was far away, but neither could I tell where the apartments I was staying at were.

"This thing's got to have a..." I searched the buttons while were were at a stoplight and picked one. "Aha! Map." The PNS (Pamen Navigation System) came on, displaying a fancy overlay on the dash of where we should go.

"...do you want me to just drive you home?" There was something in me that felt disappointed.
"Are you scared?"

I continued to weave through traffic neatly, getting honks and swears from other drivers. My dark eyes were glittering at the beautiful smoothness and speed of the ride. I risked a glance at the quiet boy and realized he looked like he was about to be sick.

"Wait, you're actually scared." I swore softly, then started to lower my speed. Once I was down to a more regular speed, I took another at him.

"Better now?"
"Details would be lovely."

Her nightly exercise over at 100 push ups, Jin pulled herself to a sitting position and wiped her forehead. She was panting slightly. If she had noticed Ishawari’s gaze, she chose not to mention it. “I have turned that damned poem over and over in my head, searching for clues. I feel like we didn’t get the whole story. I wish-” Now was not the time for wishes, but here it was anyway.

“I wish I had been rude and just outright asked where we were headed. I mean, I think I understand the need for that level of secrecy, but couldn’t just the two of us be trusted with a destination? It aggravates me deeply that I didn’t ask more questions. Maybe the Emperor could have given us a clue, just one time hint. A translation. A treasure map. I’ll take anything.”

She sighed heavily and flopped on her back.

“I feel like we’re on a rickety bridge, with rocks on either side.” She huffed softly. “And the bridge is on fire.” Maybe she was exaggerating, but Jin really felt that danger was around every corner. Maybe she was being paranoid. Appropriate levels of paranoid, but still...

She shook her head, trying to banish the fear. Her mind got like that when it was too quiet. “But we will see this through. I have to keep reminding myself of that. No matter what, we will see the Prince to his destination.” What happened after that, she wasn’t sure. Would he still need guards when he reached the mysterious Mentor? Where would they go? Jin would like to stay beside the Prince, watch him grow and maybe guide him as well.

“Well- I am thinking too much, and I am sweaty. I am going to take a bath.” Their little wooden bath was at the back of the house, outside near a small cistern where they could pump water. It wouldn’t be hot, but it was better than nothing.

As she passed by, she laid her hand on Ishawari’s shoulder and smiled warmly.

“Thank you for being here. I don’t think I’d be able to do this if it wasn’t with you.”

Then she went outside.
I did not notice Sam's sudden silence. Instead, I was too busy making sure all of the buttons were the same on the dash.

"Okay, here we go!" Slowly, I pulled out into the road. Once we were coasting, I put down all the windows. "Now let's see what this baby can really do!" I started to speed up, feeling the wind whip through my hair.

"Woohoo!" I opened the sunroof and stuck a hand out. This was what I needed. Pure distraction.

"Isn't this awesome?!" I nudged Sam with my elbow.
