After a few minutes, Anthony returns to the dining room and drops a two inch thick stack of papers onto the table. "I apologize for the low quality of some of the copies, but they're all legible." The papers he lays down on the table tell how both Luthor and Waller had connections with the group of villains known as the Sinister Six. They also tell of how once Luthor was elected as President, he and Waller decided to begin forming a top secret metahuman army to defend the world if the Justice League, Avengers, X-men, or various other "hero" groups ever went rogue. The project, known as the Alpha Initiative, would subject young metahuman "volunteers" to strenuous mental and physical testing, as well as a brainwashing technique with delayed effects. The tests informed Luthor and Waller of which subjects were the strongest and the brainwashing turned every child into an agent that could be activated at any time with the flip of a switch. Word of this project got out, causing Luthor to lose his presidency and seemingly an end to the atrocities. However, now that both Luthor and Waller were less in the public eye, they continued the program using staff paid using Luthor's vast fortune, ensuring secrecy. They became more aggressive, stalking children they thought had powers and, occasionally, downright kidnapping them.

Kijani read through the papers, slowly at first, but soon she was falling into the information. She didn't notice her hands starting to shake, when she read document after document, seeing redacted names, numbers, experiments and results... Her jaw was clenched tight, to the point where it should have hurt, but she was so detached from her own body that she could have taken a punch in the face and not noticed. "This.." Her voice sounded strange. "This is wrong." Somewhere in the house, there was a reeking stink. Copper and bleach... "This has to be a mistake." Her torso throbbed with pain.

"I like both. People are just as great. Especially here. I meet so many different people with neat abilities." Indeed, Maxine had already met two people that her powers worked with.

Devika chuckled a bit. "Well, here is different. Everyone's got their own weirdness, so no one sticks out for having powers. But I've lived as a 'normal' girl for a long time. It sucks."

The man frowned at Josh's story, muttering 'fucking perverts' as he put the gun into the makeshift holster at his belt. "Yeah, let's go. I'd rather not be travelin' in the dark." He looked at them for a few moments, as if noting something.

Jinny was halfway hiding behind Josh now, and while her face was less scared, her hands were opening and closing and fingers wiggling in obvious nervousness. In a rare show of childishness (for her, anyway) she grabbed Josh's hand with her own small and shaking one. Her hand only fit around three of his fingers.

The man grunted slightly, and gestured for them to follow. He picked up the rest of his tools and stowed them, before sliding into the front seat of the truck.

Jinny stood with her hands outstretched, holding stock-still, as if moving could somehow detonate the tense scene in front of her. Even though she was trying not to be scared, a tiny whimper slid from her mouth.

The man looked at Jinny for several seconds, before he lowered his weapon completely and put the safety back on. "Shit. I could've shot you, little girl, you know that?" He sounded angry, but his face was more worried than anything.

"I'm sorry." The words popped out quite immediately, but Jinny realized she meant it. This guy seemed like he would have been very sad if he'd hurt her.

Anthony parks the car in the driveway and answers nonchalantly as he exits the car, "Haven't you ever heard of planning for the future, Ms. Rayne? I know this might be hard for you to believe, but I would like a family some day. Please follow me." He leads her into the house, the doors unlocking and opening as he nears them. Once in the dining room, he gestures to the table and says, "If you'll have a seat, I'll be back soon. Don't bother trying to go into any other rooms that have a door. The doors are locked and can only be unlocked by people that I've entered into the DNA scanning system." With that, he walks away to gather his notes from his room.

Kijani called after him with a half grin. "You're no fun, Anthony! Can't a girl snoop properly?" Still- a DNA coding system, that was pretty damn good tech. She wondered how much that cost, and if it was hackable... She settled against the chair, thinking about what he'd said previous to that. Family... she'd never really considered it. A dull throb started beneath her scar. Even without her... injury, there was still marriage. Adoption. Maybe... She gritted her teeth against the growing pain, and rubbed her forehead slightly. "Get it together, girl..."

Maxine laughs a bit. "I know what you mean. People think I'm crazy because I talk to animals like I do people."

"Nothing wrong with that." Devika nodded. "I bet animals are better company."

Jinny saw what was about to happen, and she couldn't help it. She panicked. "DON'T!" She burst from the bush, hands outstretched, as if she could somehow stop what was about to happen. "Don't hurt him, Mr. Josh!"

The man stopped short, but didn't have time to turn around before Josh's knife was at his throat. Then he saw Jinny bursting out of the bushes, and obvious shock flashed across his face. Immediately, he stopped pointing the gun in her direction. "...y-you're just a kid!"

That went over better than expected. A lot of people didn't believe Maxine when she said she could speak to animals. "I sure can. I think it's the best. I'm glad you like it too." The girl smiled brightly. The people here were different, more accepting of her abilities. Staying was a better idea than she thought.

Devika grinned, showing her dimples. "Well, I'm happy you're not freaking out about me being an empath. People think I'm going to hypnotize them when I tell them what my power is.." She chuckled weakly. "It really doesn't work like that..."

Anthony nods, "As you wish." After thirty minutes of driving, Anthony nudges Kijani slightly and says quietly, "We're here, Ms. Rayne."

Kijani opened her eyes immediately, snapping out of her meditative doze. She looked out the window at Anthony's home, her eyebrows going up. She gave him a mildly impressed look. "All that space and no one to live in it."

Hey all. Not gonna be on long tonight. Gotta get up early. ^_^; But I will stay to finish the scene with Anthony and Kijani, because I refuse to sleep on a cliffhanger.
