The second to last page is almost all Knight's. It's actually funny because it's so absurd.

So, who gets to fight Devika?

Connor nodded, standing, grabbing his pack, "You fought well against griffin without your powers" He pointed out, "That's kinda why I don't use my suit either. Doesn't seem fair"

"Exactly. I mean, it doesn't have to be an entirely fair fight, but you don't learn anything from completely curbstomping someone." She headed off to Mimic's class and sat up front. "So, who's even left to go?"
Devika ate outside during lunch, her body aching from the morning's exercise, and a headache threatening from earlier in the day. She went to Mimic's class alone, and realized upon sitting down that she hadn't fought anyone yet. "Oh, great..." She groaned slightly and buried her head in her arms.
I do, but I'm still working on my profile. I'm utterly stuck on the history- I really have no idea how a 10 year old kid would wind up fending for herself within the city.
*flails* The damn site has eaten like 3 of my posts

I give up for the night.

Connor finished the mouthful of food he had, smiled at Kijani and said, "shall we go sit through our classmates beat each other up? Unless of course we get to fight again" he grimaced at that thought, rubbing his neck where Anthony had pricked him with the needle.

Kijani grinned a bit. "It's a shame I can't use my sword... I may be mean, but I'd rather not kill anyone in a simple training fight." She wrapped up a sandwich to go, and then piled what was left of the feast together, tossing it all out. "I think I can hold my own in a fight, even without my powers. It puts me at a disadvantage, but I guess I should be prepared just in case I ever burn myself out and have to defend the old fashioned way." She grabbed her bag and the sword case. "Shall we?"
...I come back and one of my favorite people is gone? *tries not to cry* Well, Dioxide, I wish you the best. You've got a lot to offer the world- they'd better look out.

*Sigh* So what else have I missed?

I recently read a guide on creating characters and it had five steps to it. One of the sentences in the guide was about keeping the idea of the character simple, because the complicated stuff about the character comes from how they interact with the world and make relationships with other characters. So, back to your trouble. I would suggest forgetting about how other people see characters in the world/book and just worry about who your character is and what they are about. Also, I'd like to mention that the guide was written by Brovo on this site and I found it to be very helpful.

Hmm. That is a good point- is there a link so I can read this guide?

Also- I rather like the first idea of someone absorbing furies. It just makes me think of so many awesome ideas. But could we limit it to saying that they can only absorb one kind of fury? Otherwise we might have something unbeatable on our hands.

Yeah, like me. I haven't even read the third book yet.

The problem I'm having is that... I kinda want to... expand Alera a little bit. It seems it's like... I dunno, everyone who isn't white is a monster. Literally. I'm not saying it's deliberate or that Butcher's a racist or something- it's just sort of limiting my ability to come up with a character I like.
