@WanderBug Normally any brand new characters would wake up alone in the woods (or together, if there are multiple new characters) away from the ongoing plot. (Check out the first post of the IC for what I mean.) I'd mod you through the adjustment period, let your character cause a few catastrophes, then lead him or her naturally into the path of everyone else. Or you can opt to crash-land right into the thick of things. I'm open to preferences. :)
