The Vanishing Stone glimmers brightly. It's ancient and rough, no bigger than the palm of your hand -- but the cosmos shine and spin deep within it. Galaxies, stardust, suns and planets stretch on infinitely through the lens of this single stone. Your hand stretches out. The moment the cool stone touches your fingertips, the galaxies rush toward you; your vision fills with spinning stars of impossible color. The ground is gone from under your feet. The breath is knocked out of your lungs, and a profound silence stifles your ears.

. . . Until a freezing wind chills you, and you find yourself standing among mountains in the billowing snow.

The Outpost

You are standing on a wide platform of snow-covered stone. Above, only a jagged streak of snowy sky is visible between the mountains that tower around you. Below, a deep howling chasm gapes wide. The only thing that stands between you and that deadly fall is a flimsy rope barrier.

The wind bites cold. Snow swirls all around and hisses on the ice.

A wooden house stands on an opposite platform, creaking with age and heavy with snow. Lights flicker behind its windows, and dark smoke curls up from its chimney. The only way to reach the house is to cross a rickety wooden bridge that swings gently above the chasm.

Behind you there is only the sheer rock face of the mountain, glistening with ice and pocked with snow. Carved into the rock is the serene face of a meditative tiger -- part of an ancient bas-relief that had long ago been smoothed down by the wind and snow. Embedded in the forehead of the rock tiger is a Vanishing Stone, placed there long ago by a culture centuries gone.

Question for everyone: what do you think of maybe using titles at the beginning of posts to more easily identify each other? Especially since deadpixel will be playing two characters, having character name headers would be beneficial, I think.

Even just [h3]Character Name[/h3] at the top of posts would be super helpful. What do you all think?

I do love your character though. A magical catboy zooming about with his awesome cape among all these serious characters will be an absolute joy to work with. :D Epic plot awaits!

@Happy Go Lucky Hence why I said it probably will not end up being relevant at all. I just worry unnecessarily. A lot. :)

I really just mean details and minor stuff. For example, if I say a spell goes wrong in such a way that in your lore should not happen, are you cool with that? Or, if one of my NPCs can magically sense that he has a demon heart, and in your world this shouldn't be possible, will you accept that?

Sorry, I didn't write what I mean clearly. I won't touch his plot or attempt to NPC any of the other characters mentioned in his backstory, and I have no intention of taking the RP to his world. That is totally yours and off-limits. I'm only talking about technicalities. :)

@Happy Go Lucky So essentially a mage catboy with half a demon heart, engaging in his very first mission when everything goes horribly wrong? :D I could see some plottish chaos here.

I'm hesitant because it seems you've got a very detailed world, magic mechanic, and character backstory made up. As a mod this makes me wary. I have to know and trust that if I say something happens that directly conflicts with your character ideas (if a spell goes wrong or the half-demon heart becomes a plot point) it will not be questioned and I won't be forced to adhere to your novel's canon. This will likely never come up at all in-game, but it's the kind of thing that should be clarified from the getgo, just in case.

If you agree to allow me free reign on plot and mechanic even if it directly conflicts with your novel, then you're approved. :) Otherwise, you might want to consider creating a character specifically for this RP, one who is flexible to the whims of the plot.

@pure493 I'm getting a noir feel here. Very awesome! Also a really cool alternate history idea. :D Absolutely approved! Just to make sure we're all on the same page, though -- the Chroniker does not exist in your world: I'll introduce it in the first couple mod posts. However, your character could totally find the true Vanishing Stone a replica of the Chroniker, or even some research and documentation on how it works. Maybe someone was trying to duplicate the Chroniker and had written down some theories.
