Anemia sucks. I feel like there's an invisible vampire sucking my energy through a straw.

"No." It was final, a command, calling a puppy back from biting a porcupine. Alphonse marched after her, and as he went he tugged on a string that hung from a branch, which caused a clatter of shells and noise to crash to the ground. He scooped them up and carried them over his shoulder.

"I know for a fact it's not your business. It's my business. Literally. This is not a game! Hey! Get back here!" A part of him wanted to just let her decide her own fate -- but her sudden ambition to track down the monster on her own was more than alarming. She was crazy, surely. "You didn't know what it was called a minute ago!"

This was getting nowhere. He followed her with a stormy look on his face, until he stopped beside a tree and looked up, calculating, as the groon turned around.

The monster had heard their shouting, and it turned around where it stood, squinting with dim off-eyes to find something to chase down and torture. It finally spotted Din; with a happy rope of drool dangling from its chin, the groon crashed toward her.

Alphonse watched carefully, and he curled his fingers around another string that hung from the branch of a tree.
So hey, I see you haven't been around the site -- I'm gonna go ahead and unsubscribe to free up my list, but if you do come back please do PM me. This is a cool RP. :D

Hm, well the characters could use a little bit of a breather. There's not a lot here for me to respond to right now -- unless I have something else attack or complicate the plot further, neither of which I'm too keen on at the moment. ^^;

Plot's way too complicated already. XD

Actually.

Simon just screamed, and he's not far from you guys. You should've heard him. ;) Reus would've raised his head and perked his ears, but I don't think that's worth a post on its own.
"What?" His voice heightened slightly in pitch, he grimaced, and he clambered after her with a graceful stumble. "You have no idea what you're talking about." He scowled deeply, which looked more like he was scolding a puppy. "Everyone in a ten mile radius knows to keep out of the woods. It's not that my name's on it, I'm just the only one insane enough to walk around without full plate armor -- even moreso now that all my traps are completely useless because the Groon's a bit smarter than you might think, what with its flailing like a babboon and did you notice its eyes don't exactly point in the same direction --" He was in the middle of demonstrating the Groon's odd eyesight with his fingers when he saw where she was headed: a small camp set up in a clearing, ripe for any beast or monstrosity to plunder.

"That explains it," he said flatly. "You're new to the area and you have no idea what's going on. Whatever your business is, it can wait til the Groon's gone. Why don't you stay in the village?" He flung an arm in the direction of the nearest civilization -- a quaint little village full of quaint little people frightened of a monster in the woods. "Plenty of hospitable people would lend you a bed and a meal. That's the way normal people travel, at least. Come back after I've taken care of the monster. That means stay out of my way for awhile, stay where it's safe."

He stood at the edge of her camp with his arms folded, fully expecting her to ask him to help carry her stuff into the village. Of course, he'd heard her say she would take care of the beast herself -- but of course she was joking.

Hay guys! I found a song that totally reminds me of this RP. x3 Children of the Sun

Tell me when it's my turn to post. I'd like not to interrupt!

Your character should be a human from a medieval-like era (I'm flexible on this though) with no magic powers and little to no combat experience. The point of the game is to start out completely unprepared, and gain abilities and weapons and allies as you go.

@Gisk Hi there! If I understand your question correctly, the answer is that your character is summoned suddenly into the game. All characters originate from alternate planes of existence, and have appeared here in this unfamiliar world. @t2wave has just now joined the game, you could check out the latest mod post and their first post to get an idea what's happening with new characters. :)

If that's not what you were asking, you may have to expand upon the question. :)

Through Tyaelaem's eyes and ears, Simon would see and hear it all:

She threw her frustration out towards the forest and the darkness. Anise felt confident that the whole place was listening. "I am Princess Anise Sinclair!" She declared out towards the darkness. "I have made friends with Tyaelaem the Rabbit! I have been accepted by Reus the Great Wolf! The Spirit of the Lantern has chosen me! I will protect those that have been forced into the darkness, through life and death! I will find a way to free those that wish to be free of this forest and help them find their way out! Those in life and in death!"

She took a deep breath in and let it out in a show of her determination and stared at the old pirate's spirit to wait for its response. She prepared herself mentally for the worst and readied herself against any attacks that might come from him. "Sir, what is your name? Join me and I will do everything I can to find a way to free you from this darkness." She extended her hand to the old man's spirit in a display of friendship.

Simon felt a tightness in his chest, like a hot string attached to his beating heart -- the other end was tied to Tyaelaem's heart, giving him light and life as long as the fire burned, as long as Simon's concentration remained intact. Simon could see and hear everything that Tyaelaem saw and heard. Now, he saw Reus towering above him and he saw Anise's back as she faced the shadow army alone.

The blue lantern grew brighter and brighter, like a small sun, as Anise's will and desire filled it. The gray shadows all stepped back, shimmering weakly in the strength of the light.

The greater dark -- the shadow of the man whose blood coated Anise's hands -- did not change. He stood tall and dark and empty as a bottomless chasm, and he stared at Anise's outstretched hand, and he chuckled.

Deep laughter echoed among the trees. Shadows sprinted among the branches above and slithered in the grass below.

FOOLISH CHILD

The voice rumbled in Anise's and Simon's heads.

Tendrils of dark wound out of the man's dark form, and he grew slowly taller, larger, darker, swallowing the light.

DARKNESS IS THE ONLY FREEDOM

Tyaelaem tried to shout, but no sound came. His form flickered. He jumped and sprinted to Anise's side in a mute panic, blinking in and out of existence.

In Simon's head, the Lady of the Pond whispered: I serve the Lord of Shadow -- and so do you, my love! Her power controlled Simon's body; of its own accord, his hand destroyed the ghost flower in the fire. In doing so, the Lord of Shadow was allowed to feed upon the string of power that connected Simon to Tyaelaem. Simon quickly grew weaker, his energy draining as the Lord of Shadow sucked it dry.

Simon would soon realize that every ounce of life was about to be drunk from him. The Lord of Shadow intended to allow Simon to die in order to destroy Anise and claim the Lantern. The Lady of the Pond rendered Simon's body paralyzed and helpless as sacrifice; she controlled the flow of his blood as she controlled the water. Simon felt his energy and his consciousness being pulled forcefully out of him. His body grew colder.

Tyaelaem had dimmed to little more than a shadow.

The boy looked between Anise and the tendriled Lord of Shadow -- and in a last desperate act, Tyaelaem leaped forward and laid his hands on the blue Lantern.

An explosion of force and blinding brightness flung Anise back, crashing and sprawling into Reus.

The string of power surged and snapped, and Simon was hit all at once with a sledgehammer of bright energy that knocked him on his back. He was again conscious in his own mind, and warmth returned to his body. The Lady of the Pond had gone quiet, and the stone around his neck was no longer glowing.

When the light dimmed again to the Lantern's usual blue glow, Tyaelaem and the shadows were gone and the clearing was empty and quiet -- except for a boy in strange clothes, sprawled in the grass at Anise's feet.

Ok. Since @TheDarkTemplar and @Keplo appear to be MIA, we're going to assume that the pirate side of the story is continuing behind the scenes and the focus will now be on Anise, Simon and Chris.

Templar and Keplo, if you're still with us I'd love some feedback on where your characters are at now -- I can totally backtrack and rewrite if the turn of events isn't working for you. Just trying to give your characters the best opportunity for quick development. :)

Edit: Aaaaand banged out a post! t2wave, let me know if you have any questions about the scene you've been dropped into. Essentially you're in a forest at night, with a very battered and dusty princess holding a blue lantern, and a black wolf the size of an elephant.

@t2wave Right. Anyway, any thoughts on the previous question about where to start out?
