Oswald against a single Grimm would almost be unfair. Though, had it been a Wendigo, baby or not, he probably would have shit his pants. Thank god for Armory class.

The appearance of the Unsubtle in the Armory garage made Oswald chuckle from deep in his chest. "Fuckin' Marcus. I could not be with a better team leader, for the love of all that is good in the world." The professor's interest in the marvel of engineering was quite apparent, and it made quite a bit of sense. How could one look at that thing without experiencing some sense of awe? Even Oswald, as simple as he was, couldn't help but get excited as he thought of how much work and machinery went into the tank sitting in the class. The professor's command to show what the students had and were capable of brought Oswald to full attention. He was standing before he even realized, undoing the scabbard that secured his sword at his side, carefully placing the weapon on the workstation in front of him. He also removed the shield from his back, and reached into the small pouch where he carried his dust crystals, pulling a small blue one out along with a small cloth, wrapping the crystal carefully before setting it down. "I don't need to tell you to be careful with that. But I will anyway. It loads into the pommel. Fires out the tip. Should freeze juuuust about anything."

As far as weapon and semblance upgrades go I don't think we should use in game currency to get them given that some students are just naturally better off than others. For instance Sapphire's father is an effective hunter and as such Sapphire has a good deal of money at her disposal as apposed to the guy who grew up outside the kingdoms and slept on the ground before coming to Beacon.

This is true. And I'm totally not saying that because my character is said guy who grew up outside the kingdoms and slept on the ground. No way, definitely not that reason.

“I got extremely lucky with my opponent, nothing more. Next time he will probably take sparring more seriously. As for the team, from what I have seen and heard I came up with some points that need emphasising. Things like ‘if an attack is going too well you are running into an ambush’ for example, preferably with a visceral demonstration on top to really drive the lesson home. Diamond’s opponent, we do not really have much to go on. What makes you say it knocked her attack back? I couldn’t really tell from the angle was watching what happened exactly. Yesterday was my first injury in the field, and my first time fighting anything like a Datura. Beacon puts a lot of faith in its students, but part of that is likely because they can afford us getting hurt. Back home, an injury like this would have meant that the rest of my team was at risk every day they went out. I took the heaviest hits and came out mostly unharmed, but Sapphire works on the basis of Not Being Hit. When it comes down to it, she has the upper hand any time we go head-to-head, at least until I learn how she works. The problem with her style is that people can adapt, and a few hits will break her like any Grimm. Sorry for rambling."

I've never heard of this 'deadfic alley' before. Please explain. I don't think it'll necessarily lead to more focus in OOC. There is only one bonus issued per contest, and there won't be contests 24/7, and the bonuses directly affect stuff we do IC. If we're not planning to do IC stuff, then doing the contests wouldn't be of any real use. But implementing rewards for missions (aside from credits and lien, I'm guessing) does seem like a good idea. Any ideas for other rewards aside from the aforementioned and upgrades? Perhaps equipment upgrades from contests, and natural ability (including semblance and aura) boosts from missions? @Sapphire, tomorrow morning. I'm somewhat waiting for Shadowkiller to make a certain post before I do.

I expect this to have the opposite of the intended effect. What I think this will bring is a lot of people putting more focus OOC than IC, and we all know where that goes: deadfic alley. Nothing wrong with offering bonuses, but maybe doing a few missions IC would also grant us the ability to upgrade? I know you're trying to get the creative juices going, but as per above, I think the attempt is misguided. Now, if you were to implement both of the ideas...well, I think that'd have a great effect.
