<Snipped quote by Nimda>

You have children?

I—Wha- No!
<Snipped quote by Nimda>

We have one, the one that’s up during the day.

Oh, a sun.
<Snipped quote by Nimda>

He talked to me. I was totally oblivious at the time, so it didn’t even cross my mind that I was doing something everyone else labelled as taboo. Not that I should be expected to know. Someone from outside never visited before, so no one had taught kids that it’s something they ought not do. He asked me some questions, I guess partially because he wanted to pick my brain on what I knew, and partially to make the first real attempt at extending an olive branch since he’d been there. It was a great talk. He had loads to share. Some cool lost history about the elements, general stuff about the outside world. Totally blew my mind as a kid. Like, I remember he tried to explain the idea of stars to me and I just couldn’t wrap my mind around it. A bunch of tiny lights in the night sky, just randomly scattered about? It was absurd.

You didn’t have stars where you were?
<Snipped quote by Nimda>

He was publicly berated, scorned, and shunned. But people gave him the space he needed, since no one wanted to start anything. Fear and aversion to conflict, and all that. One day, when I was younger- not that I’m old now, but I was unarguably a child then- he found his way into the same library as me. I was there for school, but no one was really watching over me. I was too involved with myself to really care or notice, but when I look back, everyone else definitely evacuated or at least left sight.

So you talked to him?
<Snipped quote by Nimda>

Essentially, I suppose? The part of the story where I come into play, is when an outside scholar in the elements made a discovery that led him to us. Not sure how it was even possible, but he made contact with the person who saved our people and convinced him to let him visit. For research. Something none of our people could stand.

So it’s not just you who can use them. What happened when he visited?
<Snipped quote by Nimda>

We wouldn’t know. It was pretty much nothing but isolation ever since.

And nobody at all wanted to leave except you?
<Snipped quote by Nimda>

*nods*
I haven’t seen it before, but the amount of times they have been recorded onto books and the amount of info on how to do it shows the proof.

And it, like, actually really works?

<Snipped quote by Nimda>

We “left” in the sense that our homeworld was literally moved somewhere else so that none of our aggressors believed any of us had survived. They probably thought we eradicated ourselves to keep the technology from them or something. But it’s as I said, we never were much for conflict, as a whole. No one ever wanted revenge, they were just afraid.

I guess thinking that you destroyed yourselves to keep the technology from them didn’t really improve their opinion of you.
<Snipped quote by Nimda>

As weird as it sounds. One person, one individual, who said they could hide us away. Hated the idea of watching us being hunted down to the end. They took us and our homeworld, and hid us away. It now exists in a sort of isolated solar system in its own space. That’s where I’m from. The rest of us harbor a sort of fear and resentment for the outside world, and have ever since.

So your people never left? I would have expected you to come back with a vengeance.
<Snipped quote by Nimda>

It could be used to revive people, heal other species, kill other species, grant people power, summon things, and more.

Like, actually??

<Snipped quote by Nimda>

This is all history. Waaaay before I ever came around. It’s just setup. The takeaway is, we were hunted down heavily. We were slaughtered, and the people who tried to claim the secrets they were not meant to know, they fell victim too. And their deaths were blamed on us. As strange as it sounds, we were saved by an offer, of sorts.

An offer?
<Snipped quote by Nimda>

To be as to the point as possible? Violent conflict. When people didn’t believe our reasoning for not sharing and just thought we were being greedy and hostile.

What did you do?

<Snipped quote by Nimda>

*shrugs*
That’s just what I’ve seen.

Did it actually do anything?
