TLDR: party is psychically summoned to a run down warehouse where an injured nun of an ancient order is the last thing holding back a horde of monsters and pleads for the party's aid
music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_LktJ14Kg8

Ryken continued to recover from the earthquake that had shaken the continent a month prior. Damaged buildings had been repaired, trade had resumed, and the riverfront remained as busy as ever. Barges moved along the water while laborers hauled cargo between warehouses and merchants conducted business beneath the summer sun.

Each member of the party received the same telepathic message.

"Please, I need your help. River warehouses. Follow the flame."

The sensation lingered only long enough to provide a direction before fading. The source led toward an older section of the waterfront where several warehouses still bore signs of earthquake damage. One of them had been abandoned after part of its structure collapsed. Temporary barriers had been placed around it, but nothing prevented entry.

Inside, a damaged stairway descended into a lower level. The basement itself appeared older than the warehouse above it, with portions of ancient stonework exposed where walls had collapsed. Faint carvings covered some of the stone surfaces and a large glowing seal had been carved directly into the floor near the center of the chamber.

A woman in red and gold vestments stood beside it. Blood stained part of her robes and burn marks covered one arm. One hand remained pressed against the seal while streams of orange light flowed from her palm into the damaged construct.

Several yards away, a large fissure split the floor open. The crack descended into darkness beyond the reach of the chamber's light. The woman looked toward the arriving group.

"Thank you for coming. My name is Sister Valeria Embermantle of the Church of Sacred Flame."

A scraping sound echoed from somewhere below the fissure.

"My order was entrusted with maintaining the seals to hold back a great evil. The earthquake damaged them and something below exploited the weakness. Creatures are making their way upward through passages connected to deeper ruins. I cannot hold them back myself any longer."

Another scraping sound followed the first, slightly louder than before.

"I have concealed this location from those on the surface and can continue doing so for now. I can also assist in restoring damaged seals. I have already exhausted most of my strength keeping this breach contained, so I plead that you pick up the fight for now."

Valeria removed her hand from the seal for a moment and several cracks of orange light immediately spread across its surface before she pressed her hand back against it.

"If these creatures reach the warehouses above us, they will reach the city shortly after. We must stop that from happening at all costs."

The sounds below continued. Stone shifted somewhere within the darkness and small fragments of rock tumbled into the fissure.

"You have a few moments before the first of them arrive. Ask your questions, make your preparations, or choose your fate now."

TLDR: Bones did some damage to the pylons, bones has an attack coming his way, xune is under enervation for most of her abilities and still held but her attack hit most of the baddies and pylons in the chamber, mantis has an attack coming her away, the party's fiddling with the pylons triggered a massive shift that brought several scavengers to the scene from elsewhere in the pyramid.
music:

The dagger struck the pylon with a sharp metallic crack and bounced away. The glow within the structure flickered for a moment, no more than Mantis had managed with her own strike.

His charge met a far harsher reality. The sword thrust landed against the back of the nearest warden's leg, scraping across reinforced armor before biting shallowly into the layers beneath. The undead construct barely reacted. It turned with ponderous force and struck at him with the back of one massive arm. (defend yourself)

Above them, the chains tightened around Xune. The drain intensified as the pylons fed from her directly. Green light flowed through the bindings and into the surrounding machinery, each pulse stripping more power from her. The soul fire she called forth answered her summons, but the spell never reached its full strength. A large portion of the energy was consumed by the system before it could leave her grasp. The blast still erupted.

Blue green fire washed across the platform and into the wardens. The constructs staggered under the impact as flames crawled across armor and bone, and some fell to a knee. The fire spread into the pylons as well, and for the first time the entire cluster reacted. The conduits brightened. The floor shook. The green glow throughout the chamber surged upward in a wave. The drain on Xune eased.

A deep grinding sound rolled through the chamber as sections of the walls split apart. Hidden passages opened on either side of the room and living figures emerged from within. Men and women in scavenged armor and expedition gear stepped into view carrying tools, weapons, and packs filled. They froze for only a moment at the sight of the wardens, the suspended Xune, and the ongoing battle.

One of them pointed toward the pylons.

"There! I told you someone activated the core systems!"

The wardens immediately changed course. The 2nd nearest construct turned away from Bones and began advancing toward the newly arrived intruders while another already near Mantis threw a powerful punch at her. (defend yourself)

TLDR: several party members are severely injured from the a light arrow or crashing into some part of the chasm. Time is short before arrival
music: youtube.com/watch?v=o_Ay_iDRAbc

The scattered light bolts tore through the descent and most of what they came into contact with. One of Aedrianna's arrows struck directly through Jareth moments after he dispersed. The blast exploded his body apart into a cloud of sand that continued falling through the shaft. The rising spires passed harmlessly through the drifting particles while pieces of him scattered across the descent stream. Reformation would need to wait until he regained enough control to pull himself back together.

Ao Ba shattered the incoming light arrow sent toward her with her palm strikes while the hive bug she had abandoned slammed directly into one of the rising spires. The creature split apart on impact. Her short teleport carried her clear of several nearby formations and debris fields as the descent lanes tightened.

Shael failed to fully evade one of the light arrows. The projectile pierced through her side and burned clean through part of her clothing before exiting behind her. The wound cauterized immediately from the heat, though the impact still sent pain through her body hard enough to threaten her concentration. Even injured, she was able to narrowly maneuver herself clear of the rising spires afterward.

Yume took a direct hit from one of the light arrows. The blast tore through her rune tattoos and detonated across her body before the rising stone caught her moments later in a glancing collision. Blood sprayed outward through the descent stream as the impact spun her violently away from the formation in an uncontrolled tumble whipping the blood around.

Aedrianna avoided the worst consequences of her own attack. Her stepping glyph redirected her just enough to avoid colliding with a jagged ledge protruding from the tunnel wall while the destruction spread around her. Bugs, debris, and most other things that were falling with them were cleared out by her attack and others by that point.

The incoming light arrow obliterated Lauren's tree outright and shattered through her barrier shortly after. The remaining force still struck Lauren hard enough to injure her badly even after the shield absorbed part of the impact. Her reshaped glider barrier managed to carry her around the nearest spires and debris clusters before they could finish the job. She was not as bad off as some of the other party.

Yumi avoided a direct hit herself, but the light arrow struck her scythe instead. The weapon exploded apart in her hands into a storm of metal fragments that blasted outward into the surrounding descent lanes. Without the weapon anchoring her movement, one of the rising spires slammed into her during the fall and critically injured her before she bounced away trailing blood through the air.

Noelle failed to evade the incoming light attack. The projectile ripped through her kimono and severely injured her before passing onward through the shaft. Her water shield still held together well enough afterward to redirect falling debris and protect her from the surrounding spires.

Michael reached for his belt as another incoming light arrow screamed toward him.

"Theta! Blue World!"

Space folded open before him into a glowing blue domain large enough to swallow the attack entirely before sealing shut again. Moments later Michael kicked against empty air and launched himself backward through a flipping motion that narrowly avoided several rising formations.

"I think I found the problem!" Michael shouted upward toward the others. "And it definitely is not gravity!"

Then the shaft changed. The black stone and crystal veins ahead warped into a shimmering curtain stretched across the entire chasm. The barrier flexed outward when the falling bodies struck it like a membrane forced beyond its limit. Resistance dragged across skin, armor, debris, blood, and magic alike for a brief moment before the entire group burst through into the space beyond.

The pull vanished. Their descent slowed abruptly from a deadly plunge into something almost drifting. Colors spread through the darkness below. Green light shimmered across the distant walls while strange glowing growths and flowing crystal veins in a rainbow of colors illuminated enormous shapes hidden deeper beneath the earth. Massive structures and shifting movement became barely visible far below through layers of mist and colored light.

Michael suddenly convulsed midair. Blue liquid poured from his mouth first before spilling from his nose, eyes, and ears as his body folded inward from the strain. The glowing fluid drifted through the slowed descent around him while he struggled to remain conscious in the unfamiliar space below.

@Duping Flamer Welcome. You say you are interested in tabletop roleplaying?
@Anciek Welcome. Say hey if you in need of a medieval fantasy rp :3

TLDR: Xune captured and taking ongoing damage while active spells were put on cooldown, bone soldiers confused, mantis half lifed and targeted by the wardens, bones mostly getting ignored by the wardens
music:

The chains struck Xune before she could evade them. Green energy wrapped around her body and tightened at once, lifting her from her skeletal mount and suspending her above the platform as the conduits around the pylons surged brighter. The drain hit immediately and began pulling power from her in heavy waves. The magic sustaining any of her active spells faltered under the strain and collapsed, forcing every maintained effect into cooldown as the pyramid fed directly from her. (enervation effect, tangle effect, damaging)

Below Xune, the skeletons hesitated. They shifted in place around the platform without direction while the light beneath them continued to pulse.

Mantis crashed into the wardens head on. Her blade struck the first across the neck, but the reinforced armor and layered bone held through the impact. The construct answered with brutal force, one armored arm smashing into her as the second warden intercepted the follow up attack before she could recover her footing. The exchange tore through her defenses and drove her backward across the platform, sliding across the floor as it cost her nearly half her life as the wardens absorbed the assault and continued advancing.

With Mantis now engaging them directly, the wardens shifted their attention toward her almost entirely. Bones found himself largely ignored as the larger constructs closed around the elf instead, their heavy steps shaking the platform with each advance while the pylons continued feeding on the energy drawn into the chamber.

ooc: in free fall, solid anything is fake and attacks will create a recoil to launch characters spinning, tumbling or similar. Selective isn't as effective then as picking out allies in a dizzying tumble will be nearly impossible.

TLDR: party members fill the chasm with attacks. everyone gets to make defense action or face some attack by the party as well as any other hazard that may be still in play.
music: youtube.com/watch?v=o_Ay_iDRAbc

The pull deeper in the shaft continued strengthening. Attempts to stop, fly, or sharply redirect movement still resulted in bodies getting dragged back into the main descent stream. Strong movements carried recoil. Gunfire, spells, and heavy swings risked spinning or redirecting anyone who failed to brace properly.

Lauren successfully redirected herself onto the falling tree. The trunk gave her a stable platform briefly before the pull equalized her speed with the rest of the debris. She killed a hive bug that drifted too close, though the recoil from the burst sent both her and the tree into a dangerous sideways spin. She may need to brace or risk being thrown loose/getting clocked by the tree itself as it spun. (Lauren defense action)

Fleet successfully armored Jareth before one of the larger hive bugs collided with him. The impact failed to injure him but launched him away from the center group while the bug tumbled off with broken limbs. Michael answered Jareth's call from farther down the shaft.

"Jareth! I hear you!"

Michael continued struggling against the pull with little success.

"Something is pulling us down! Can you sense anything?!"

Michael's eyes started to glow as he considered his own recommendation.

Ao Ba successfully latched onto the hive bug. The creature immediately began thrashing violently while continuing its descent. Falling debris struck both the bug and Ao Ba repeatedly. (Ao Ba will need a Block action to remain mounted and unharmed.)

Aedrianna killed one hive bug outright in an explosion of light. The recoil from the first shot sent her spinning heavily through the air, causing the remaining light arrows to scatter unpredictably through the shaft. Nearby allies and bugs alike had to avoid the stray projectiles. (ALL characters must make defense actions or face shiny destruction)

Yumi successfully killed another hive bug and accelerated enough to reach several of the other falling characters. Her movement now carried her close to the main descent group.

Shael held fire while the nearby space filled with stray light arrows and sonic force. Most nearby bugs either died or scattered toward more isolated targets farther down the shaft.

Noelle managed to drift close enough to Aedrianna to unleash her sonic blast. The attack devastated the remaining nearby hive bugs and sent several crashing into debris or tunnel walls. The blast also struck the bug Ao Ba rode, causing it to lurch sideways into another debris field. Ao Ba and the bug were both battered by the impacts. (Ao Ba's required block action just got higher difficulty)

New hazards emerged ahead. Massive black spires rose through the center of the chasm and split the falling stream into narrower lanes. Several hive bugs collided with the formations and exploded apart across the stone. One partially survived impalement and continued clawing at nearby targets while pinned to the spire.

The narrowing descent separated portions of the group briefly as debris and surviving bugs were funneled between different gaps in the spires. (Anyone failing movement or defensive actions risked collision with the formations at terminal velocity and/or potentially a tight fall with an oversized bug.)

@Jinxxed welcome. I'd not worry too much. Folks here are relaxed seems like. If medieval fantasy is of interest, be sure to say so. I have a group project open ^^
@Dahlia213 welcome. Your interests align with some of our values in my medieval fantasy project. Feel free to say hey if interested.

TLDR: Bones and skeleton buddies loose barrier. 4 Wardens appeared and are moving toward mantis and lone skeleton who was damaging pylon cluster. The pylons are shooting chains at Xune specifically.
music:

The skeleton within the pylons slowed as the light gathered around it, its movement reduced as the energy fed through it and into the conduits. The skeletons left behind and Bones felt the change immediately. The light under their feet tightened and pulled harder, drawing from them in sharp pulses that translated into clear damage with each cycle. (barriers, assuming they were still up, shatter on Bones and the skeletons not on the dais) Mantis felt a lesser pull where she stood on the platform.

The strike against the pylon carried through the structure. The vibration traveled along the conduits and into the floor, and the chamber answered. Sections of the platform split along hidden seams and larger forms rose up from within the structure itself.

Four constructs emerged around the pylon cluster, each standing close to twelve feet tall. Their bodies were built from layered bone fused with dark armor, thick through the chest and shoulders, with heavy limbs that ended in reinforced grips and bladed extensions. Their frames locked into place as they rose, then began to move, each step slow and weighted as they oriented toward the nearest targets. (mantis and the lone skeleton at the moment)

At the same time, the light beneath Xune tightened into a single point and thin strands of green energy lashed out from the pylons toward her position. (Xune should take a defense action)
