Make it clear that you don't need him to be reading Dante tomorrow. Also suggest it would be fun if you had a private language that you could use to mock English speakers in secret.

@SleepingSilence I reserve the right to bail at any point! When I moved here I was thinking it would be permanent but these days I'm considerably less certain. Every year or so I go back and forth as to whether I'll apply for citizenship but its kind of sticking in my throat at the moment.
So I watched Altered Carbon recently and it had so much of the things I love (Sci-fi, Noir ect) that I got on board despite the fact that I'm not usually a big fan of transhumanism. Having finished the series I read the next book in the series:

Broken Angels - By Richard Morgan

Set on a war torn world it follows the ex everything hero on a mission to try to salvage a derelict Martian warship. It's deception of Xenoarchaeolgy (and its internal politics) was particularly interesting. The action was well written and the atmosphere tense. There was some questionable sexual content that I found a little problematic but overall I found it very satisfying. The twists and turns of loyalty and betrayal which underlined the whole plot were particularly well executed and the pay off at the end was fantastic.

It is a very different version of Takeshi Kovachs than you get in the Altered Carbon show, but even as a standalone hero he works perfectly well.

@POOHEAD189 I moved here (semi permanently) in 2010
Fun Anecdote: When I first came to America I watched an episode of the Colbert Report (which seemed weird without the context) and then saw The O'Riley Factor for a while I though O'Riely was just a less funny version of Colbert. Eventually it was broken to me that he was actually intended to be taken seriously.
@Penny Fair enough.

Assuming you hate them, without ever actually watching them?

I actually love to watch Fox News, I have a sort of sick fascination.

Edit: Although I don't currently have cable so when I say watch I mean online. Sort of miss those store gold for the apocalypse commercials though....

You give Fox News way too much credit

Very very doubtful.
@Andreyich
This is going to sound a little weird but I think association with you is one of the few positive things I have taken from this thread. No matter how many times I try to put you into a mental box you continue to defy expectation in surprising ways. Even though we disagree violently on nearly everything it is refreshing to encounter someone that isn't a set of Fox News talking points that wishes they were a real boy.

End of positive thoughts.
@SleepingSilence You do understand that by 'of age' we are talking legal consenting age for marriage right?
Blah blah blah.

If all parties are of age and consent then it isn't up to me to determine whether or not it is emotionally healthy. Plenty of traditional marriages are super unhealthy as even a cursory review of domestic violence statistics will demonstrate.

All of that other crap really isn't relevant. Are there genetic and mental health risks? Sure but those are for the aforementioned consenting individuals to make decisions about just like any other relationship.

Interesting how people who claim to be on the individual freedom band wagon get so squeamish when you actually apply it to something the don't like.

Every point you make exactly mirrors the same objections which were trotted out over and over against gay marriage. I did not find them convincing them and I do not now.

"The third major after effect of incest homosexuality is the influence that it has on the psychology of an individual. Feelings of shame, moral degradation and self-disgust are among some of the more dominant results of the act of incest.

Morality, in the case of incest homosexuallity, is deeply connected with the institutes of Law, Religion and even Science.

Overall, the effect of incest homosexuallity on the human psyche can truly be devastating. From depression to suicidal tendencies, the consequences are astoundingly serious and this can be one of the reasons that it is considered such a taboo among all."
