"Oh..." Mel replied to Lucio as she slowly removed her hands and tucked them behind her back, keeping them from Lucio's sight. "You're right. I'm sorry." She said sternly and with just a hint of heat behind her sudden seriousness. She turned and was about to leave before his formal introduction turned her right back around. Her mood lightened a bit and her smile gleamed again. "Lucio..." She said his name under her breath, rehearsing the sound it made. "My father always called me Melerindalowen." She replied with earnest. "But... you can probably call me.. Mel? Yea just call me Mel!" Her real name seemed like a mouth full and so far the only two people she had met had shorter, cleaner names. There was always Melerin or something but for some reason when Mel came up with her abbreviated name on the spot, she thought the shorter, the better.

Mel would have likely continued the conversation if not for something popping in her head. "Eargen!" She hollered, probably confusing Lucio greatly. "Eargen!" She said it again and glanced around the tavern, not hearing anything. Not waiting for Lucio to inquire or anything she took off in a haste. In mid stride she shifted into the form of a wolf and began smelling the air and ground vigorously. The she-wolf howled and darted up and over the collapsed giant, still partially lying inside a collapsed tavern. She vanished from at least Lucio's view.
Mel woke up coiled in her large bearskin cloak. The brisk chilling air failed to stir Mel from her sleep but the shouts and hammers of nearby activity did. She was resting just outside town in view of the backside of the tavern. Eargen was a no show last night. He fled from the center of town from what Mel could tell, apparently in the direction of where the giants came. His tracks and his scent sort of dissipated because the scent of the giants were so pungent. Why would he run towards the incoming giants? Did he summon them? Did he try to fight them? Regardless there was no body and Mel hoped Eargen wasn't eaten. He was a sweet dwarf and the only other friend she had in this world, aside from Lucio.

Rising from her cloak, she picked it up and gave the exterior a pat down or two, wiping away the accumulated down. Then she hauled it around her shoulders and brought the two ends around and tied together using a bit of leather on the inside to do so. Her moccasins fell from their hiding place and plopped right next to her feet. She slipped her feet in and then picked up her metal staff. She entered the inn just in time to witness vials of something being passed around. She shook her head when offered one and stepped back, away from the group. Wasn't so much as distancing herself, as it was to study the builders repairing the wall. The concept of architecture and construction was something new.

Oh it's not Lander that feels that way, it's me, because the un-named bartender was a dick, didn't have a sister and cheated on his wife and has multiple children he doesn't take care of. That's who he is. How do I know that? Because he wasn't a character till he was made one and we all wrote him any way we way we wanted. The smart thing to do would have been to make a new character to introduce or let us know that someone was changing a pre-existing character. Good guys are boring as hell, as they are not like regular people. Everyone has their faults. Even you.

Woah is right. This came out from no where! I was only trying to help everybody with this one particular issue. Someone made a mistake but in words, everyone has their faults. So get over it.

But why make this suddenly personal?
I feel that sympathy isn't really required. The bartender, by numerous accounts, was a dick. That doesn't mean he wasn't cared about by someone, somewhere. The bartender could possibly have been a nice guy once you got to know him but based on first impressions, he just doesn't want shit happening in his tavern due to a good business sense. No free room for the bard. No animals inside the tavern. Makes sense. NPCs can give off multiple impressions to different people, because that's just like real people meeting.

It really boils down to how your character would feel. Aldred is a good example of the 'good guy' who despite briefly knowing the bartender to be a dick, is willing to look past that for the sake of Emilia. That makes sense because that's how I feel Heat wants his character to be. But your character can do whatever they want. You can talk ill of him if you want and feel like that's what your character would do.
It was finished. Mel cautiously tipped back and softly fell on her bottom, using the snow as a cushion. She nursed her aching side with a greenish glow that caused the out of position bones, swelling, and general pain to sort of subside. It felt rough but Mel displayed nothing more than a wince or two at the pain's worst. The thing about healing yourself was that it takes awhile, at least the particular restoration magic she used. If it had been someone else, she would have an easier time because a lot of focus wouldn't be lost in a nagging pain. Still, Mel wasn't a stranger to healing herself. She had to admit something felt a bit 'off' when her comrades in her vicinity just kind of wandered back to the broken inn without so much as a glance in her direction. Mel thought there would be a sense of rapport and camaraderie that came from all this. I mean they did just fight a group of giants together. It was a distant suspicion that Mel didn't have any experience with so she let it slide. However, there was a complete lack of attention to the "make sure they are dead command". But again, Mel wasn't sure how things were supposed to be and just took the mantle of responsibility herself.

Once she felt like she was healthy enough to get moving again, she got up on her feet and walked over to the two giant corpses. They probably were dead but Mel had the same fear as the armored man and a rampaging beast would get away with a lot more destruction before being brought down a second time. So feeling better, Mel conjured up a small pool of a thick oily substance using her earth elemental ability and spread it around the two giants. The giant already on fire now burst into even greater flames and after a quick spark the other giant lit into flames. Mel watched the two bodies burn for a moment, looking for any movement, before officially calling them dead and heading back to the inn.

There was still some tenderness in Mel's side but she felt like she would be fine. Any noticeable display of pain would be minor. Mel crept in from one of the inn's openings and surveyed the damage. Snow was sprinkled just about everywhere on her but she appeared unconcerned about the cold. People were milling about, but Mel was glad to see the bard still on his feet. He took a nasty kick earlier but it seemed to not phase him not. Mel wandered up the bard again but this time gently tapped her cold finger on the tip of his nose. "I'm glad you lived and were not seriously maimed." She her hands placed right around the area she thought he got kicked, which was his chest, "Are you well? I can put your pain at an ease as easily as you can strum your music, bard." She cooed in a soft voice.
The giant in front of Mel toppled and collapsed onto the inn. She really hoped nobody got hurt because that was all on her if someone did. But more troubling than that giant was the second giant charging the inn. Mel focused and was just about ready to fire another fireball but the armored man came and finished it off convincingly. That left two, or so Mel thought as she witnessed only two of them off in the distance near some cabins. Mel began heading over there, a slight falter in the occasional step as she still clutched her side in an attempt to not move it as much. Her bare feet pressed slightly into the snow, making a very faint crunching sound as she pressed on in a brisk pace.

When she felt like she was within range, she noticed one of the giants enveloped in a pinkish aura. That was a magic she had never seen before, but the giant looked paralyzed so Mel figured that they had that giant taken care of. The other giant in the vicinity though was just now being stabbed in the thigh. Fearing the giant was going to turn and try to swat the guy on his thigh so Mel decided that giant was more of a priority. Mel was still limited by her injuries so she couldn't flourish enough to get anything big enough to cause major damage. Another fireball would have to do. Squeezing her fist together she lit it on fire until it began trembling and then when she thought it had enough power behind it, she let it loose right towards the giant's big head.
The kill should go to whoever is able.

Woah woah guys. Let's slow down a little. I can't post until Pirouette posts again. I don't wanna be left behind. Its so hard to catch up and takes a lot of motivation to do so.Edit: Lol, never mind she just posted. Ah timing. I'll get one up when I home from work in less than an hour.

Yep. Sorry but I had school priorities up until now.
The half-elf's response was a letdown on many levels. He said no again, probably because Mel had it all wrong because the bartender was some type of royalty, not the musician. Not only that but music really wasn't that special, at least according to the bard. Mel's wildest fantasies involving civilization were all wrong. Royalty wasn't some noble, handsome faced figure with plenty of regal qualities but rather just some plain clothes, angry man. Music wasn't special and instead, it was just something 'anyone' could do. It was a letdown and Mel's excitement was extinguished. "Oh.... okay." Mel replied to the half-elf's lecture on why he couldn't play. She understood, you shouldn't angry any royalty.

Of course the bard departed for a minute, Mel watched him talking with the "king" of this place before coming back. It appears there exchange went well as he suddenly pulled out the key to his music making. Mel oogled over it as the half-elf began playing it in a sweet melody. She watched intently on how the half-elf ran his fingers across the tightly pulled threads. A pattern was formed in which strings he pulled and those strings had to have been the source of the sound. Regardless, it sounded just like she had hoped, except better even. Mel allowed herself to get lost in a bit, closing her eyes and lightly swaying. Her heart thumped rapidly against her chest as this was the happiest she had been in decades.

When the bard finished, Mel took a step back, her hands on her chest, and her mouth hung open like she could just scream in excite. Instead of screaming she took a deep breath, her chest expanding and contracting, "That was.. everything I could hope for." Her voice was hushed, almost difficult to hear. Mel was still intoxicated by the music that she didn't hear the silver-haired lady's taunt or even worse, the rumble of incoming boulder.

The boulder crashed through the wall, sending debris flying through the building. People scurried for cover and Mel was left for a moment where she was in utter shock. She didn't move until well after the boulder broke through the wall and continued its progress inside the building. Unfortunately the boulder found one of the building's many supports and snapped it clean off at the bottom. That support was sent into free fall and very unfortunately the wooden beam found someone to break its fall. The wooden support landed on a diving Mel. The wooden beam wasn't heavy but the force of it slammed against Mel's ribs and forced her to the ground, pinning her for between the wood floor and the beam itself. A thin layer of dust kicked up like a fog and other than a few shouts, Mel couldn't see anybody. Her left side was killing her as the beam pressed down on her ribs. She couldn't tell if something was broken but it hurt like hell.

Panic was beginning to settle in as Mel attempted to lift the beam off but could only get it to budge. Each staggered breath caused a flare in pain and the beam felt like it was pressing on her side harder and harder. It was almost a bad situation. Almost. If it wasn't for magic, Mel would have had to wait for someone to save her but she had a way out. Mel let out a labored grown that quickly turned into a beastly growl as her skin morphed and grew hair. Her body grew and bulked up. Her mouth extended into a snout and a little pudgy stub formed for a tail. Mel morphed into a bear and with that, she roared and lifted the support beam off with her mandible claw. With another roar she staggered out on all fours to the street outside. Outside, there was even more carnage. Giants were advancing onto the slumbering town. One had been slain but five others remained with one alarming close to the inn.

Mel's form changed again and she returned to her normal self. Weakened by that accursed beam, Mel fell to a knee as she found moving her left side hard and healing herself was always a little tough to do so instead she decided to help that convict pirate from before. Her right hand closed in a fist and soon lit on fire. Her fist trembled a bit before she left fly a strong fireball that flew right for the giant's face.

More than one post in a day from me? World is ending.

And me as well. I'm going to bed, though. SO I hope Lucio is ready to start babysitting Mel whenever the group finds themselves in a city or town.
Mel's smile faded and that once gleefulness had been replaced by shock, like she didn't expect the half-elf to refuse the request. It looked like he wanted to make music, especially when he expressed disappointment after the bartender said no. Was the bartender that scary of a man or was her half-elf musician really terrified for no reason? What right did he have to deny someone to make music?

"Throw you out?" Mel expressed confusion in her upward tone. She shot a grimacing look at the bartender before returning to her pleasant self. "The man is jealous that he can't do what you do. I'm sure music makers are esteemed enough to declare some type of supremacy, right? He is on a tier lower than or something?" Mel's delight was slowly returning to her as she continued. "I mean music is a special talent that not many people possess so that means your, um, royalty... no, that's not it..." Mel sort of trailed off at the end as she bumbled through what little knowledge she had of social structure. A few mumbles here and there before she finally found the word she was looking for. "...noble... Ah! Nobility! So you can tell that guy what to do then!" She appeared pleased with her conclusion and gave a quick, reassured nod in the half-elf's direction.

Of course it was highly possible that the bartender was a threatening person so Mel was prepared for that possibility to. She leaned in closer and stood up on her tip toes to try to get as close to the half-elf's ear as possible. Mel's cheek delicately touching the half-elf's and in a low whisper she said, "Don't worry I'll defend you if that bartender attempts to throw you out. He won't dare lay a finger on you with me protecting you." While it might be considered a bit sensual to whisper like that, Mel only meant it in the sincerest regards. She didn't want the bartender to hear this and engage Mel and her friend in combat, possibly hurting other people. Plus, Mel had no idea what the bartender man could do to make this half-elf so afraid. Mel stepped away from the musician and gave him a double nod, egging him on in silence. Her smile and cheerful expression practically begging him to do it.
