Grim Galaxy: Shots and Chances

The Hanger doors opened up, and the drones glided in en mass. The Hanger filled with blood, bodies, and shell cartidges was now lit up with buzzing and flashes. Neil had just managed to turn the display on as they came in. The pilot sighed, shaking his head. "Vultures." He spat. Behind him, Taya had come up to check the display as well. She seemed concerned, though still somewhat ecstatic.

"I don't know...it's exciting getting noticed. Even if it's for someone else's gain...sometimes especially then."

Neil turned to her, eyebrow raised. "...thinking of the Prince, are we?"

"No!" she denied vehemently. Though her blush said otherwise. "Besides, he's Junebug's man."

"Apparently."

"So what are we going to do about the drones? They'll think we just up and got into a firefight!"

"Well didn't we?"

"You know what I mean!"

Neil shook his head and held his hands up. "Ok ok, I'll go handle it." He conceded, which brought a very confused look from Taya as Neil left the cockpit and headed to the bay door. He passed by Junebug and Kagan, giving them a happy, too happy, smile. The flashes that greeted him when he stepped out didn't bother his senses, because he had donned his signature sunglasses again.

"Hello ladies and gents." Neil said, giving a wave. The drone sensed the motion and the few that weren't already recording him floated over and began doing so. "Oh is this live?" He asked aloud. "Sweet. I uh, I mean there's nothing to see here. We were attacked. We handled it. It's all good. We're just being merciful right now and aiding the wounded. Let it be known that we're good people, who you don't fuck with."

Awkwardly, he nodded as he backed away. He held up both hands with his pointer and middle finger up, a veritable 'peace' sign. As the hanger door closed between he and the drones, he decided to give them something to think about and performed a handstand with one hand, sticking his tongue out, while giving the sign of the music he enjoyed with his free hand. Pointer and pinky finger out, along with his thumb.

Needless to say, the next few hours would be eventful for the planetary news

@POOHEAD189 I get that, Though I am warning you we are a battleline infantry regiment. And we are all part of the same platoon and part of squads, part of me effort to keep everyone together. Its going to have less commando moments and more all out assaults. Part of what I was going for is keeping everyone together despite the regimental differences in doctrine. He's probably not going to have a lot of opportunities to do scouting and typical catachan tactics.

He's a good character and I am accepting him as is. But I am warning you that I am taking efforts to limit keeping the characters apart, Or having everyone waiting around for one character to do something and return. Like scouting.

• Military mindset: It's often hard for him to think in civilian terms. He's known as a 'lifer' in the service.
• Laconic Speech: While he has a fair bit of wit, he isn't the long winded type and not entirely sociable.
• Pecking Order: He makes a capable leader, but he won't challenge command, even if the commander is inept. Just the way things are.
• Practical: While he's proud of where he came from and understand idealistic and nostalgic notions, he'll still toss away or destroy near anything that is useless in order to get the job done. Some people who are still attached to the Old World can find it discerning.

Bio: Hal was born in Kentucky to agricultural experts, as his father used to say. Hal and the rest of the world called them farmers. Though while Hal helped around the farm with the cattle and plowing when he could, his first job was in town as a paper boy. Most people felt the rough albeit mundane life suited him. But Hal disagreed. He felt an idealistic notion of changing the world in a more radical fashion. Perhaps it was his interest in history, or perhaps it was his long line of military ancestors. But he signed up for the service as soon as he could.

Hal spent the next year in basic training, and once he completed it, he was sent to Fort Braxton for another 7 months before he was sent to battle insurrectionists in South America. He arrived there and essentially hit the ground running, because his transport chopper was shot down en route. He survived with a jump, and aided a fellow injured soldier to their rendezvous point. Once he arrived, he was already hailed as capable, receiving a certain amount of respect most newfish didn't acquire so quickly.

He did not disappoint.

The next six years, he lived, bled, and killed with the best of them. He rose to corporal, and then sergeant. Hal was never told what prompted him to get called for the Ark (other than a vague reference to his exemplary military record), but his call to fame was causing a 10 man team to surrender with naught but his sidearm, having flanked them and ordering his men to provide cover fire at just the correct time. After six years, he was then given leave and went home to visit his family.

It was during these 9 months of home life that he was informed of the next impending Devastator attack, and the Ark project. Five days later, he received the call for military personnel to join the venture. At first, he refused. If the Devastator threat was approaching once more, he felt duty bound to fight against the alien threat. However it was by his father's wishes that he accepted the duty.
