I started ATLA late, around Covid. But I love the first series and think TLoK is pretty good despite some problems

I never notice someone's post count until I see (ignore post count) and then I totally look at it, out of habit and curiosity.

Current Projects/Freelance work

  • I am a voice talent and script writer for Faerun History
  • I have a much smaller personal Youtube channel that I use to make videos on various subjects. Only been making videos for 2 years, but it's growing!
  • I'm the host of a Science Fiction & Fantasy Podcast where I interview authors of the genre.

Interests (Includes but is not limited to)

  • Writing/Reading (Love writing and I own too many books)
  • Video Games (Been a gamer for close to 23 years now)
  • Working Out/Martial Arts (Wing Chun/Oyama Karate mostly. Some historical swordplay as well.)
  • History (Military History is my specialty)
  • Zoology
  • Art (Mostly Illustrations. Used to be good. Am picking it back up)
  • Voice Acting/Singing
  • Tabletop Gaming (Started late in the game. Been at it for 3 years. I was the kid who bought the monster manuals and D&D books just for the lore for the longest time. I've played 3.5e, 5e, Star Wars D20, Edge of the Empire, PF, and PF2.)
  • Weaponry of all kinds
  • Anime (mostly action/shonen. DBZ & YYH being my favorites)
  • Movies (Action/War/Drama films being my go-to)
  • Music (Rock of all kinds, as well as historical folk songs, sea shanties, pub songs, a bit of classical music, etc)
  • Guitar (am learning to play, but being left handed makes it challenging)
  • There's more but if you care enough you can PM me :P

Roleplay F.A.Q.

  • Fantasy, Sci Fi, and Historical are my genres. Fantasy being my favorite and Sci Fi/Historical being close seconds.
  • Advanced / Nation / 1x1 / Casual (only in certain circumstances)
  • I generally write at the 'Advanced Level' meaning 4+ Paragraphs with good grammar.
  • I am usually busy with many projects and RPs, but if you wish to do a 1x1 with me, you'll need to present your case. Those I already do it with have my trust as a Roleplayer.
  • I love many, many fictional universes so me trying to list them all is an effort in futility!

@Faerrin Sure :)
@POOHEAD189 First, questions about how the evolution of stats work. I know the base depends on what you roll but does evolving your character work similarly? Or does the GM/DM "gift" points for certain tasks? Also, skills and attributes. I assume they have to make sense for the character's background, like a magic-wielder would be less skilled in hand-to-hand and weapons; as well as more intellect. Illusionists could dabble in things like poisons and potions, maybe even weapons if necessary; most likely their highest attribute is charm. Am I correct in my thinking? Also, are there specific skills that only certain species have or specifically cannot have (like dwarves in Dragon Age cannot wield magic)? I probably have more questions, but those are the immediate things that come to mind.

It really depends on the edition and what set rules your DM gives you. You can do "point buy" which means you have 20 points to put into a stat calculator to add to each of your stats, which begin at base 10. Or you can roll for your stats.

In general people's skills do reflect their class, but not entirely and sometimes not at all!

In some editions, some races cannot be certain classes, but usually races just help you be worse/better.
3.5 is the best edition, but I wouldn't recommend it for beginners.
I have lots of questions!

Well, if you list your questions off I'd be glad to help you. But if you're looking to get into D&D particular, I suggest the current 5th edition as it has a simpler ruleset (which I have mixed feelings on, but it's very easy to learn). I also suggest finding rulebooks on this site. Almost every PDF you need is there.

Except, I also included "tropes are used because they're effective". So you'd think that would potentially imply they're versatile for it. (Hence, the same trope can be used multiple ways, and still be that trope.) Or the context of "all stories can be narrowed down" which directly states, when you trim fat you can get the same results. Acknowledging that fat (unique flavor) exists to trim in the first place.

So we probably don't disagree. But who I am to judge?

I didn't say tropes weren't effective. We probably are just disputing what constitutes "original."

Categorization isn't saying "original" is dead, but as a human culture, we tend to tell the same stories throughout time. What changes and what innovates these stories is changes in modern society, in technology, in belief, etc.

The tropes are the same, but the paint is brand new.

I agree with that.

<Snipped quote by POOHEAD189>

I'll have to look for where that's said. <.<'

But, yeah. Familiar isn't a synonym for identical.

Well when you say "nothing is original" and you use that as a reference for the claim, it implies you think nothing is original because they follow simple plot structures and I disagree.
@SleepingSilence Just because stories can be set defined in categories doesn't mean they're each copies of the other.
