Good news, I'm not failing out of my cooking course tomorrow! Bad news, it's only because I nearly sliced a chunk off my finger practicing for it and needed stitches.

It's days like today that I truly believe this ADHD is both a blessing AND a curse.
@VitaVitaAR Yeah, I'm working on trying to power it down a bit, because I think the whole point of it in the original fic is that it is pretty damn OP. I'm thinking of working it so that they take a lot of mana, or otherwise have some different form of negative effect to their use so he can't just spam word blades constantly. Also, just one of a certain word leads to a fairly weak modification in the long run, so more often than not, he is required to repeat words a few times to have the proper effect. Then he'll be forced to rely on pre-enchanted objects, made by attaching the concept words to objects ahead of time with a very similar form of magic.
Along with those, I'm also planning to make it so he has to actually study the words in order to use them in spells and enchantments as they're in some kind of crazy magic language, something which has been very slow going while he has been in hiding, with very little in the way of information sources.
As for it being a Magic Trait, maybe... I was hoping for him to actually not have one honestly, so that way I could have him be just that little bit further separated from the image of an ideal mage family head.
Edit: Oh, there's also the fact that it has to be an actual thing he's creating with the words, or connecting them too. He can't just say 'speed' and then move super fast, or 'strong' and then be super strong, he'd have to create some kind of phantasmal hand that would be super strong, but that would also take a frankly painful number of words to form properly. It's almost a little bit like coding, except I'm way less terrible at understanding it.
Ok, so brief character concept to claim my archetype so no one else takes it before I'm finished. Young adult who, along with his younger sister, are now the only two members of their family left after an 'accident' killed their parents, and have been laying low on a small island somewhere out in the pacific as just your regular, lower-middle class family to avoid encountering a similar 'accident', which has led to most assuming the entire family was killed. The guy is now technically the clan head, although he is fairly unconventional in his laid back, even seemingly lazy personality, and the rarity with which he takes things seriously, but he'll still choose to go to London himself rather than put his sister in danger.
So far, I'm thinking that his magic allows him to layer concepts around each other by speaking them out loud, and these forms will eventually take a phantasmal/physical form depending on the words he used, along with a little bit of his intent. For example, 'sharp' 'stab' and 'cut' will become a sword. Add 'float' and 'hunt' to that, and it'll become a sword that flies at the intended target. There is no limit to how many modifying words a single spell can use, except for the fact that each additional word means more mana is used, meaning that excessive use can be quite dangerous. This is also blatantly stolen from a Fate/Stay Night fanfic, but a different one to the transferal of concepts.
Also, as if I wasn't being blatant enough, I'm using fisherman lancer for the image, so no stealing him.
Yo, I'm interested. Might even be able to stick with it this time! Would it be possible to do something along the lines of Transferal of Concepts, or maybe just Transferal in general? Like, he can transfer metaphysical concepts from one substance to another. For example, he could take a diamond and a rubber glove, and then transfer the concept of 'hard' from the diamond into the rubber glove. The glove will remain flexible, because it still has the concept of flexibility from the rubber, but at the same time, it is extremely hard to break through. I'll need to look into the specific details again, because I'm shamelessly stealing the idea from a Fate/Stay Night fanfic.
Or I'll just use Warp, and really make a mess of things.
Alright, so I was originally thinking of making a powerless, like, completely powerless character who would try to do what was right despite his lack of powers, but now I think I have a funner idea.
Basically, I'm gonna make Shinj Matou. Just... Just a right bastard. Arrogant, obnoxious, seemingly few to no actual redeeming qualities outside of his (meager) combat abilities and possibly some shallow level of charm, which anyone who knows him longer than a day or two can see through completely. Then I'll try to slowly redeem him by showing that he actually does care about other people, but he's just super insecure and terrified about how worthless he thinks he is, and acts like he's top shit because it's the only way he can actually convince himself that he isn't worthless. He'll probably die at the end of his redemption arc, but it'll be one of the only badass moments he has.
So basically the version of Shinji Matou in the Fate Extra verse.
@EchoicChamber Ok cool! Question though. Considering my guy will, you know, have no powers, how likely is he to die brutally? And how can I sneak around that probability while still being ingrained in the main plot an helping people?
Well, it sucks that I won't be able to make discount Archer again, but I guess discount All Might could be cool too. Is Uruz still free, or did I miss it? And if I did, would it be possible for me to make some normal guy who doesn't have the powers but gets dragged into everything anyway?
Age - Fourteen, but turns fifteen in half a month.
Gender - Male
Sexual Orientation - Heterosexual
Occupation - Genin
Personality - Ren is honestly kind of just your average kid. He tries to be cheerful when he can, and generally isn't too bad at it, but with the way he barely managed to claw his way through the test to make genin, his self esteem has dropped considerably. This has turned into a full on inferiority complex when he was placed in a team with his classmate Koharu Hayashi, who was not only a genius to the level of being called a prodigy, but was also the jinchuriki of the five tails and niece of the late Tsuchikage! Meanwhile, he was just some idiot from a civilian family, with nothing that could really be considered interesting to his character at all! In spite of this inferiority complex, or more likely because of it, he hates the idea of being looked down on, despite knowing there's very little reason not to. He wants to be be a person people can depend on, despite knowing there isn't really a reason for them to.
He wants to help people, even though he knows he isn't even close to being strong enough to.
Yet.
Family Name - Igarashi Family Bloodline trait - Nope. The Igarashi clan has almost no shinobi to it's name.
Village - Stone
Background -
Ren has had a surprisingly difficult time getting to where he is now. He doesn't have any fancy kekkei genkai, or even a family member who could teach him what he was missing. He's just your average civilian kid who decided to try and make it as a shinobi. Upon entering the academy, it became clear quite quickly that he wasn't on the level of most of the students from established clans, and even a fair few of the civilian kids were getting by far easier than him. However, while the gap in ability did leave him somewhat disheartened, it also led him to throw himself into his training all the harder. Even outside the academy, he was trying to read up on the theory or train his ninjutsu and taijutsu. Normally, this would probably have been a good choice. Unfortunately, his training soon led to him losing sleep, and slowly cutting himself off from the other aspects of his life. By the time his class was nearing graduation, his grades had dipped even lower than before, and he was slowly beginning to give in to the idea that he just wasn't good enough to pass.
And then he had a chance encounter with the Tsuchikage, who found him on the verge of tears from the frustration over his predicament.
Truth be told, Ren had always found the man a little intimidating, having never really had any proper conversation with him. Yeah, he knew his reputation was good, but it didn't really do much when he'd also heard of how stern he could be. It was for this reason that he found himself surprised when he sat down next to Ren, put a hand on the boys shoulder, and asked what was up. For such a powerful man to be concerned about some no-name academy student like him shocked him to his core, and before he even realised what was happening, he had broken down, blubbering out all his issues with keeping up, and just how damned frustrating it was when all he wanted was to be a strong shinobi like him. It was here that the Tsuchikage asked the second armour-piercing question of the conversation.
Why?
And Ren realised he had no idea. He knew he wanted to be a powerful shinobi, but he had no idea why he wanted that. Probably just because he thought they were cool or something, he guessed. When he finally, hesitantly told the Tsuchikage, the man surprised him yet again by laughing loudly, telling him that that was the core of his problem right there! He told Ren that if he wanted to become a truly great shinobi, he needed to find something he'd be fighting for. He then went on to cover all the other problems with his self-imposed training regimen, explaining surprisingly non-nonchalantly that he had been watching him train for a little while now. Ren instinctively, almost subconsciously, made a joke about the most powerful man in the village stalking kids, before immediately realising what he'd just said and trying to retract it in horror. However, the Tsuchikage just laughed, admitting that he guessed he was, and for the first time in the conversation, Ren relaxed enough to laugh along with him. Eventually, after briefly helping him plan a less self-destructive way to train, the Tsuchikage left, and after a moment of reflection on everything that had just happened, made his way home to apologize to his parents for being such an idiot, and begin putting his new plan into effect. He still didn't know why he wanted to be a shinobi, but it was a start.
From there, things got a little better. He still wasn't great at school, but he managed to just barely scrape his way through the graduation exam, and eventually got assigned to a team with Koharu Hayashi, which quickly caused the inferiority complex to resurface again, although he managed to keep it somewhat tempered by his new way of thinking, covering it with fake smiles and optimism he couldn't fully commit to. As of yet, he hasn't really managed to connect with her, but he holds out some slight hope that some day he'll be able to call her a genuine friend.
However, it wasn't long after that that the unthinkable happened.
The Tsuchikage was killed.
People said it was Konoha, and war had quickly broken out. People were dying, and it was becoming increasingly clear that he and his team would soon be dragged into the fighting as well despite their low rank and age. However, despite his grief over his new role models death, it did help him realise one thing. He wanted to be a shinobi like he had been. He wanted to be someone people could look to for support, and depend on.
And maybe, if he made it through this war, he might even succeed.

@PKMNB0Y Yeah, that's fair. I've got a little bit more free time now, so I'll be trying to get something out anyway, but go ahead if I don't make it in time.
