Being truly on my own is a bit of a weird feeling. It's never really happened.

Let it never be said that sometimes extreme brevity isn't the most appropriate post, though. Everything is a tool.

Tachibana Kaede

"Two, huh? That's quite a big family," Kaede remarked, "Though twins would explain it. I know what they're like, four of my brothers and sisters are twins. The oldest two should be coming here next year."

The oldest two... of seven. Her family was by any standard enormous and she sometimes wondered how it had become so big, though at least it wasn't going to grow any larger. The second set of twins were definitely going to be the last small children she had to take care of until she actually had any of her own.

Oh wow.

When I have time to answer the vampire's questions...

Bwa ha ha ha!
Hello.
work's been putting me through the ringer

who knew a small staff (3 lads) having to teach a bunch of kids how to beat eachother up all week with no days off was so mentally draining

You weren't pigheadedly obtuse as a child? :P
Strictly speaking, he's not a demon hunter!

... it's just highly likely that he was involved in the whole mess that is Lost Izalith and the Demon Ruins, before Gwyn decided to burn himself.
The start has kind of put me off taking part in this any more. It seems a lot darker than I feel like playing, it doesn't seem like the reincarnation thing actually... matters, and I'm not interested in describing scenery. Collab posts showing up when there's no reason for them to be at this point is just the final nail in the coffin, because it doesn't look like half the characters are ever going to interact with the other half.

I'd rather not have my character used as an NPC, either.
Kohinata Miku

It was true, there might be people still trapped inside and they couldn't just leave these possible prisoners behind... not with the threat that something was about to explode behind them. It was this logic that caused the girl to transform once again, hovering over the floor but with visor open, since there was no particular need to start targeting anybody right now.

"We should ask why he's doing this before fighting," the girl said, stating the obvious--neither of them happened to be inclined to an 'attack first, ask questions later' attitude towards things. It was worth stating, though; the lab might deserve to be destroyed.

The Edict of Caracalla is irrelevant to whether or not Jen could be considered a barbarian. Given the term was essentially used to refer to foreigners, especially Germanics near the end (such as the foederatus), Cloacina views Jen as being a descendant of said Germanics (specifically, the Saxons) in some way, thus applies the label of 'barbarian' to her.

And due to immigration, emigration, invasion, and Italy being in pieces for the better part of one and a half thousand years, the initial summary applies: either damn near everyone's a barbarian, or nobody is.

She's either not a barbarian because that would be applying arbitrarily specific criteria, or is because everyone is.
A barbarian could still become an Emperor.

But after fifteen hundred years, is Jen really a Romano-Briton, or Anglo-Cornish?

An irrelevant question, as I don't recall the edict of Caracalla suddenly not applying. Ethnological lines make no damn difference, because the citizenry was composed mostly of non-Italians towards the end. Either everybody's a barbarian now because the Empire doesn't exist, or anybody from within its former bounds isn't. >.>

Deed polls that are legally recognised by a Germanic royal family.

Deed polls in a country that with Germanic cultural roots and a national identity mostly influenced by a Germanic culture.

So? This just establishes that you can't determine ancestry by looking at surname.

And did the White family make sure to engage in highly selective marriages to keep their Cornish blood pure of any Germanic taint?

... have you just declared several emperors barbarians rather than citizens? O_o
