Being truly on my own is a bit of a weird feeling. It's never really happened.

Let it never be said that sometimes extreme brevity isn't the most appropriate post, though. Everything is a tool.

Miina Malina

Miina had slowly inched closer over the course of the explanation, freezing at Rudolf's attention, only to continue her slow onwards progression once he continued. Maybe with a little extra magic involved, to dampen her presence in every sense she could think of; better to be uninteresting than missing.

Why? Well, she didn't want him spooked. Not until she was close enough to almost be touching, golden eyes flicking all over Rudolf, narrowed into conspicuously feline slits. If he hadn't noticed that attention, there was no missing when she started giggling from this close.

"F-F-Fascinating… it's so interesting," now that she had the space from the medical demands, the idea of binding an entity of black magic to yourself… well, Miina had no interest in doing that; it would cripple her in no short order when she tried to channel its antithesis, and she didn't want to give up white magic anyway. "D-D-Does it hurt? Have you th-thought about trying b-black magic properly?"

She couldn't see why you couldn't learn to use it intentionally if you were already pulling on black magic to do all sorts of things.

If everyone else overreacted, that would be annoying. She didn't want to leave, and abandoning her cousin on such a deadly task would be kind of unpleasant, but new magical knowledge was so enticing, and it wasn't like they were really on a course to run into her brother, now.

But then again, the Kirins might also find some white-magic equivalent, and Esben was summoning things, and there were the crystals themselves…

Tachibana Hibiki

"Won't this be destroyed by the Symphogear?" Hibiki asked, the first to reach out and seize the bracelet, turning it over as if the mysterious magical technology would make any more sense to her after being studied (it really, really didn't). That wasn't to say her concern was unfounded: the gear's materialisation energy would destroy anything the user was wearing and recreate it after. While their usual support staff had no problems interfacing or communicating after that, it was possible those were built into the Symphogear directly…

Or maybe it did just use her phone or any other communication device? You needed Elfnein for this sort of thing, or maybe Chris or Maria might get it. Hibiki certainly didn't.

"The bracelet will survive," Wynn fortunately had the answer, "We can consider more integrated solutions in future."

With that, the brunette slid it up her arm, stopping further up than might seem entirely necessary, but while it might survive the transformation, she didn't want to see it buried underneath Gungnir.

"What should I do?" Miku was the next to ask a question, seeing that she had been – thankfully, despite her worry at Hibiki being off in danger again – left out of any missions. That didn't mean she wanted to do nothing; it was her world at stake too!

"Maybe you could help with communications for the other team?"

It seemed Wynn had recognised that it was a bad idea to have Hibiki and Miku on the same line.

@FujiwaraPhoenix
I'll get a post up tomorrow.
Miina Malina

"Ha–" Miina was halfway through buffing herself to deal with the onslaught when Rudolf intercepted. Well… never mind that, then; if someone with actual specialised sword skills wanted to engage the demonic scythe, so be it. When was the last time she had actually put hers to any use, anyway? Her knife saw plenty of engagement, comparatively, as it was a useful tool as well as a good thing to shove into someone.

Her sword was… basically a glorified lightning rod? Hm, maybe she should address that at some point, or at least see if it could be improved. But magic was so much more interesting.

What she wouldn't give for an offensive white magic spell, though… well, nothing too serious, bodily; maybe an eye at most. It seemed like such an oxymoron, but… well, why couldn't it destroy just as thoroughly as dark magic? The mechanism would be different but it should still be possible. Same as how she had improvised that black magic dispel the other week.

It was just that fighting against some maybe-summoned entity was not the time to start trying to improvise one of the two pinnacles of the art. They had better not ever need the other one; Miina didn't want to test how close someone could come to being dead before magic became ineffective. Going beyond it seemed like something that involved a rather complete trade, or probably just the downfall of civilisations.

Still, even with her mind racing on hypotheticals (and bemoaning the lack of library access to answer any of these questions) and her need for defence stilled, the redheaded mystrel wasn't completely lacking in instinct or sense. She wanted to hurt this guy, and while she couldn't do white magic, there was the all-purpose all-bright elemental equivalent:

"Fira!"
Tachibana Hibiki

Hibiki gave the room a curious look, then ran out and looked in the next apartment – and the next, and the next, and then after the fourth came back to give an enthusiastic report: "They're all the same!"

… or, in other words, it didn't really matter which apartment any of them picked – maybe one on a corner of the building was ideal for the ninja who wanted extra window, but aside from that, it didn't really matter. No one apartment had a different layout from any other, and the facilities seemed pretty much the same as the last two places she'd shared with Miku… more cramped than their current accommodation, but less than the dorms after Lydian's original buildings were destroyed.

There was also a spare room, which Hibiki supposed was technically a step up from a bunk bed you were only using half of, but she couldn't see her and Miku needing that at any point. Not unless she really messed something up again…

"Is there any reason for us to pick now?" the black-haired girl wondered after her girlfriend's announcement. If all the apartments were the same, then there was nothing they needed to set up, was there?

"It's not like we brought luggage to unpack." Hibiki added, nodding along. She was ready for whatever was going to happen.
Quille

"Maybe I should just get started looking in the forest," Quille suggested, looking ahead at the town with a certain amount of apprehension. The dark elf had said barely a word on the trip here – and made nearly as little noise, particularly when they stuck to proper roads – and looked slightly uncomfortable at the idea of wandering in and striking up a conversation.

In her defence, a small town like this was unlikely to see a dark elf with even the slightest regularity and her presence might distract people from talking about the actual problem. But she clearly just wanted to skulk off to where there weren't people but might be their job target.

Or things that her knives were useful for.
Fort Magrial

Past the boundary, the filth lessened slightly; the goblins might have been discarding the refuge haphazardly, but they did seem to have some sense in pushing it away from whatever passed for living areas. But the overt decorations increased: smaller animal bones replaced with larger ones, and some sort of order to it.

There was also the sound of things talking. Almost animalistic in how rough they were, some extremely high pitched, and others substituting the pitch for an even thicker rasp. Not that they were close enough (or liable to speak any recognisable tongue) to tell what they were saying, but the goblins were undeniably in residence.

Nor were they all sequestered away inside: now there were some looking around, wiry green figures of similar size to their own scout, carrying whatever sharp and pointy thing they could get their hands on — seemingly nothing good for those banished to this dull task, kitchen knives or whatever they'd been able to fashion themselves rather than pilfered arms of any quality.

She knew that Skael was going to be cold (and why did the spies have such an attractive boss? That was a bit unfair, it had kept her distracted all the time), but this hat was already getting a bit annoying. Miina was sure she could get used to it… but any muffling on her hearing was just frustrating. Maybe she could do some sort of inverse-Silence spell to improve it? Something tiny and unnoticeable, just enough to even it out.

That was the thing about travel, it was just… such a dull experience that she had plenty of time to get lost in her own head even more than normal and think about things. Magic, normally. It wasn't like keeping an eye and ear open took too much focus, so…

Maybe that was just her upbringing speaking, though? She should ask one day, see if it was a more active job and that was how the non-mages kept themselves from getting bored while they were travelling.

The greenery giving way to ruins drew the Mystrel out of her musing and into sharper observation. Rudolf was a surprisingly active tour guide, but her real interest was the cloud hanging around the place, and aetherial miasma that she just couldn't ignore. Not like the blight, nor the heavy element down by the water crystal, but rather… black magic? This place had something to do with whatever was going on inside him, though, right? Maybe it wasn't surprising.

Oh, it wasn't meant to be like this? Of course not, when could they ever just walk from place to place. Miina was sure she hadn't had anywhere near this trouble with just travelling before she joined the Kirins, did one of them have some specific curse or something…

Right, nasty darkness thing (Rudolf had better give a nice, proper explanation after this) to fight, enough wondering about why later. Shame she didn't have anything white-magic attuned more offensive to use than a Dispel, and that was a very definite melee engagement. But it ought to work, white magic unweaving the bonds that held something aetherial and especially something attuned to black magic to the world…

If she could get in close. And that scythe looked nasty.

"Protect," there, that gave her something (she needed to work on that clothes-repairing spell after this, no doubt), and everyone else an extra layer of defence too…

And then she ran in towards the thing. Yeah, yeah, lure it out; wasn't that easier when you provoked it? But she needed to be in touch range for a Dispel. Hopefully someone else got the memo and covered her.
Tachibana Hibiki

There were some hushed whispers as Miku continued to dumb down the explanation to layman's terms. Something hardened in the girl's expression when she looked at Wynn – the idea of sacrificing the remnants of entire worlds to prop up whatever they were doing not one that sat well with the girl – but Hibiki didn't raise any fuss. Or question the teleportation; after being pulled to a parallel world and having been teleported to the moon before, this was already becoming strangely routine.

And then it was time to introduce herself—

"Tachibana Hibiki, age 17! My hobby is saving people, and my favourite things are Miku and food!" her introduction was delivered with enthusiasm, enough that she seemed to miss her girlfriend covering her face in embarrassment. "I'm no good at explaining things, but I can transform with Gungnir! I hope we can all be friends."

"I'm Kohinata Miku. As I said, I don't have any way to fight," the black-haired girl had recovered from her latest bout of embarrassment, "But if there's any other way I can help, I will."

There was a moment's pause, before Hibiki added, "We'll only need one room, we've been sharing for years."

Miku could only sigh at the phrasing. "Hibiki…"

Doesn't matter if it's a one person bedroom, Hibiki and Miku are sharing. They've been doing that looooong before either of them worked out their feelings, silly pair.
