A jarring alarm echoed through the corridor as the new science teacher stumbled out through the doorway of the chemistry lab which spewed clouds of smoke. She kept her sleeve over the lower half of her face as she waved out a group of distressed teenagers, which were hastily pouring out of the lab.

"That's it, come on, move along," Valeria instructed, before letting out a couple of coughs. "Ayy, Ostras! Did I not specifically tell all of you to watch where you dump your waste?"

A careless student had mixed together certain chemicals they should not have for disposal, and the reaction that resulted had not been pretty. Thankfully, the fire was small enough for Valeria to handle, and she looked back to the class after putting it out, sighing both in relief that everybody involved was unharmed, but also in disappointment at the accident. She knew that she was new to the whole teaching thing, but was it wrong of her to expect that much from the students? With her paper qualifications, there was no doubt that she could grasp her own subject with ease, though, the event that had just occurred was a clear sign that she needed to work on her delivery. All that knowledge was of no use if she could not make the students understand.

Regardless, she was determined to make it work. Some of her best days had been spent as a student at the academy. It was where she had been made to feel truly accepted for her elemental abilities, and she had returned as a staff member in hopes of making a contribution to the experiences of the students that came after her. The memories of training at the academy's isolated fire building still seemed fresh in her mind, and coming back as its teacher-in-charge was almost surreal. She would be making her way there after the lunch break to watch over students who wanted to do some training, and wondered if anything had changed since she had graduated.

Orphanage for Supernatural Kids

Shadow, one of the students who had introduced himself earlier during Power Development, caught Myra's attention with a question. They were currently the only ones standing in the middle of the room, and she decided to share her thoughts with him while waiting for the rest to decide what they wanted to do for the class.

"I'm having trouble choosing between the drum set, the acoustic guitar, and the trombone. Which one do you think would be the easiest to pick up?"

It was taking some time to get everyone in place, and Myra saw no harm in engaging in a conversation with the boy, who had proven to proven to possess rather intriguing abilities.

Whoo! Is everyone back? It's been a long time but I believe I'm finally ready to return, with Rubio at least. I'll return with Vera if Crit doesn't update me by next year (I hope they do though, I miss Silas).

Edit: I need to make a habit of tagging people.

Apparently, The Haven closes for winter break too lol. Our characters will see one another again soon. Looking forward to it :)

A Holiday Near the Clouds (Open)

The warm, fragrant air of the cafe was just what Maxwell needed to soothe the discomfort from the cold air outside. Not that it had bothered him much anyway, considering the beautiful distractions that were present no matter where he looked. The coffeehouse was something else altogether. In spite of also being adorned with festive decorations, the warm lighting of the space gave it a much more calming and relaxing ambiance.

He found himself humming to the instrumental track of 'The Little Drummer Boy' playing in the background as he walked up to stand behind the only customer at the counter - a redhead in a knit cap, at the same time snapping a few pictures of the cafe's interior. His attention was then caught by a small yet outstanding poster promoting the cafe's signature drink, and he decided to give that Peppermint Candy Cane Mocha a try. It would be interesting to write about, if nothing else.

His thoughts were interrupted when a young platinum blond appeared and gave the redhead a little Christmas present. He smiled to himself at the little heartwarming scene, before it was his turn to order. He flashed a pleasant smile at the seemingly-reserved redhead, and took his visibly-rich coffee to a corner seat behind the generous blond, wishing him a "Merry Christmas" as he passed him. What Maxwell did next was of course, to snap a few pictures of the coffee in front of him from several different angles. He then leaned back in his seat, flipping through the images while fiddling with the candy cane which stuck out of the peppermint whipped cream in his mug.
