Current The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

The one time I'm really eager for a Gundam - or even a mecha game where I can play using a Gundam - the site doesn't have any open or even going

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

<Snip where Foster nerds about tanks>

I wouldn't worry exactly how many they have; it's not really important to the plot, and I'm not going to be counting off each one meticulously. They have 'as many as the plot requires' to make it interesting and exciting, rather than adherence to realism to that degree. I do like the frankenstined AFV's though, that's very in keeping with the setting, and especially makes sense with the ISL becoming a thing too, giving them a bit more of an identity.
I'm mostly envisioning us facing off against older soviet-era models at the moment, and the more advanced/modern stuff becoming an issue as we start to hit more key and vital areas down the line, once we advance both in geography and plot.
Hello everyone, here's a bit of help with picturing what's currently occurring.

First off, where we started, and where we've got to:

We landed on the beach, and advanced approximately a kilometer inland across the flatter, emptier stretch of what looks like sandy terrain. This is where the majority of the heavier tanks and armour were waiting for us, along with some emplaced infantry. I envision - from everyone's posts - that we spread out once we exited the landing ship somewhat.

Now, after the artillery barrage, the area ahead of us - as described in my post from Maddy's POV - is suppressed and free of hostiles and cover. This leaves us open to advance to the edge of Naserabad proper, and onto the streets among the buildings. As mentioned, the secondary school has been requisitioned as a command post for the defence of the area.
We can assume that houses and businesses have been evacuated, but are otherwise intact. They may or may not have been occupied, but walled areas/compounds or outbuildings and the more major road junctions may have infantry with heavy weapons - machine guns, light mortars and shoulder-fired weapons - emplaced.

Once we advance into the town/village, this is what we can expect, although our characters won't know where everything is beforehand, and it will only be revealed as we advance.
I'll leave the exact details of what's where open to some interpretation, so that your posts can have some creative freedom, within the bounds of what's specified on the map. Expect more of the same kind of equipment, vehicles, and forces that we've already encountered though, as drawn from equipment used by the Iranian Army. Though, expect them to be holding back their good stuff for later on.

I hope this helps with writing your replies! Looking forward to what's coming next. Hopefully after the next battle scene when we've secured the town, we can have more of a moment for our characters to actually interact in person as well.
Maddy's Madmen

The 120mm on the Osorio spoke again, and again. Autocannon shots from the BTR's and BMP's slammed against the tank's armour, ricocheting off. One smashed the mount for the M2 at the commanders' hatch, another sheared off the right-side headlights, and another from the same burst damaged the smoke mortars on that side too, before the Osorio put the vehicle out of commission, fire erupting out of the blown-out rear hatch, as the turret blew off in a pillar of flame. T-Rex and the Mighty Jalopy rolled up the retreated lighter armour, while Belladonna pulled the heavy lifting.
The T-55's had been routed; all of them were destroyed or otherwise incapable, and as the three MBT's moved forward as a wide-spaced wedge, their overlapping fire had shattered the enemy formation even as it retreated.
The infantry and light vehicles falling back were caught without the heavier vehicles' firepower to cover them, leaving them and the relatively unprotected artillery all that remained in the open ground between the Shattered Steel force's position and the outskirts of the small town.
And then the artillery barrage co-ordinated by Ironhide was unleashed, and it took care of the rest.
The creeping curtain of fire eviscerated the landscape, obliterating what scrubby plantlife there was, and the meagre cover. Vehicles were bodily tossed into the air and people were just gone as the pummeling barrage annihilated everything.
The few artillery pieces that had been emplaced by the ISL forces were shattered and crippled, and anything left was a ripe target for the attack and gunship helos as they made another run.
As much of a crescendo of firepower and assault on the senses as it was - Maddy and her team could even feel and hear it, buttoned up as they were inside the Osorio, and it sounded and felt like it was raining freight trains - it was over in mere moments, and an eerie stillness persisted afterwards for a few moments, as if the world was catching its' breath.
Maddy's ears stopped ringing, and the spots disappeared from her eyes enough that she could finally talk coherently. She got her wits back and spoke on the radio as she peered out through her commanders' periscopes, cursing as the view was blocked by the M2, twisted in its' broken mount. She popped her hatch after grabbing her rifle and emerged into view.
"All units, hostile forces are-" she paused as she looked over the view before her; nothing but smouldering stubs of scrub and twisted scrap, among scattered debris lay before them.
"-gone. All units; regroup on this position before we advance into Naserabad".

Maddy took the moment to do a quick clean-up and check-over of her vehicle. The browning M2 was trashed; the 23mm round had mangled the mount and the body of the heavy machine-gun itself. It'd need a replacement, and that bothered her, as they were about to roll into an urban area; albeit a light one, and the heavy MG would be invaluable. Never mind; they'd make do. And there'd be enough places to get a replacement. They were pretty ubiquitous weapons, after all. At least the ammo was still intact, and they had plenty of that. And the 7.62mm on Leaky's hatch was still in one piece, as was the coax.
As she worked on removing the broken gun, Magpie coming up to help, she reflected back on their mission briefing.

The unit had been briefed aboard the Amphibious Assault Ship, helicoptered over from the Tank Landing Ship while they lurked just out of ISL waters in the Persian Gulf. The flotilla of ships all stood ready, and there were men and women engaged in activity everywhere; the buzz of anticipation in the air, of a battle about to break out.
The briefing had been simple: The operation would officially commence at 04:00, when the jets aboard the assault ship would target and destroy the shore-based anti-ship missiles and observation posts. Then the flotilla would swing toward the coast, with the landing ships pulling out in front.
The ships would launch a barrage of missiles and gunfire to strike the emplaced defences, and to cover the landing ships. Meanwhile, attack helicopters would strike key targets blocking the landing, along with artillery positions. Light transports and gunships covering them would move further inland, dropping in small strike teams to seize key positions, while the armour and the main bulk of the infantry would roll up the beach.
Naserabad had been chosen as the landing point due to its' position in the bay, its' relatively undefended state, and its' small size. It was also a launchpad for their next main objective: the capture of Konark International Airport. Once that was under their control, they could start ferrying in supplies and reinforcements, and have a base to expand out from to seize more of the area and get it under control.
But capturing the command post in Naserabad, set up in the commandeered secondary school, was their first objective.

The fifty-cal gave way, and between them, Maddy and Magpie cast it off the top of the Osorio's turret, letting it thump to the dusty ground. Magpie climbed back into his position behind the M240, and she settled back into her own, casting a glance about her to check on the status of the others. She was relieved to see that the Achtung Trottel, Dino's Puma, had joined them at last; the IFV must have fallen behind or got caught up in the fighting, and fallen behind.
"All units," she spoke into the radio, looking across at the other vehicles and giving a wave of her hand above her head. "Report your status, and get ready to advance on the town. Shotgun Shine, Achtung Trottel; you're going to be our pointy end of the spear this time. You're better in close quarters than us heavies. Ironside; we'll be sending co-ordinates to you for suppressive fire on any entrenched or fortified positions. Belladonna, T-Rex, we're going to split and head up the roads with the infantry in support".

Sounds like what I'm looking for!

Surprised at the lack of interest so far. This is a pretty solid concept for an awesome sci-fi adventure story.

Yeah, I was hoping it would generate a bit more buzz and interest. But it seems like things are a bit slow at the moment in general, or there's just not as much excitement for original ideas as there is for fandom RPs
I'm familiar with it from having watched most of one of the anime series, but I don't know a great deal about it.
However, real robot mecha RP is always something that has some interest.
Erika 'Hippo' Van Straaten

Erika's flight had been a comparatively short one. She'd been spending time in Australia, as of late. Some more tactical training and arms-handling for some would-be blockbuster movie. At least this was one of the ones that actually looked interesting, as opposed to some third-rate pap stamped out for one of the streaming services that was trying to capitalise on the mold of some other, much better, film or TV show.
The pay hadn't been too bad, and she had to admit to herself that getting to sleep in a comfortable bed and having regular access to all the modern conveniences of living while still getting to play with guns was nice. Not to mention, getting to meet various celebrities and getting to tell them what to do was a neat little quirk. But she did miss doing something more... hands-on, and that had a more direct effect on the world than the fluff and popcorn of the entertainment industry.
She wasn't an idealist, or at least; not a hopeless one. But there was something to be said for the satisfaction of knowing you were responsible for changing things. And since she was lucky enough to be able to pick and choose who she worked for, well; it meant she didn't end up trying to jump through hoops to justify why working for the CAA was somehow positive.
The invitation to join this Op had been a refreshing change, then. She was unsure exactly what it would be, but she reasoned that if someone had head-hunted her for the job, they knew enough about her to know her morality and ideology and not be stupid enough to try and recruit her for something too seedy or nefarious. And if they were... well, they had paid for her to go to an exclusive Pacific resort.
Damn right she was going to take them up on it.

All of this was why she was as stretched out as a woman her size and stature could be in the cabin of the little amphibious turbo-prop plane that was shuttling from the nearest island with a decent-sized airport to the private island where the resort was located. She had a simple suitcase in the hold with the appropriate attire and accoutrements that the cover had specified, and she was due to arrive the afternoon before; just how the flights had worked out. Enough time to scope out the terrain and enjoy the place a little, before the business began. The brief had amused her; it said:
"do not bring anything that will attract attention on a commercial flight."

She'd smirked at that as she'd looked in the mirror. She ended up attracting attention most of the time, outside of a few very specific situations and locales. A swanky, luxury private island resort... well, maybe if it was Jurassic Park and they needed security for the dinosaurs.
She figured she'd try and pass herself off as some kind of tech or media company twat; she'd met enough of them working in the film industry to know the type. As such; her outfit was straight-legged jeans, tennis-shoe type sneakers, a women's polo shirt and a lightweight sport jacket. She hated it, but it looked convincing. Especially with the small, rectangular, no-frame cosmetic glasses she'd picked up in the airport duty-free before boarding her flight from Australia. She'd also spent most of the trip engrossed in a tablet, looking very studious and focused. In reality, she'd been listening to music while reading the player manual for a TTRPG.
Once she'd arrived, blending in had been easy - everyone else at the resort was too busy with their own fun to pay too much mind to her, and she did them the same courtesy; enjoying the food, drinks, the activities and the hospitality, before quietly retiring for the night when she had a buzz from all the complimentary alcohol she'd been provided with at every other turn.

The next morning, Erika had been delighted to wake up without a hangover, which was impressive given the amount of complimentary cocktails she'd imbibed the night before while enjoying the night life of the resort. A quick dip in the pool to wake her up, exercise, and focus the mind. Then advantage taken of the elaborate breakfast the resort provided, just in time to be ready for the briefing.
She'd found the conference room detailed on the small packet of information, and knocked on the door once, before slipping in.
She wasn't sure what to expect. She'd been to a variety of briefings of all sorts and in all manner of locations in her years, but this one seemed like a cross between a presentation at an arms fair and a tactical briefing. People who were very clearly more at home or at least more experienced with battlefields than boardrooms, squeezed into suits and clothes they looked uncomfortable in, in surroundings that didn't fit them in the same way. And she didn't really feel much better. Her eyes glanced around at the faces, keeping a pleasant expression on her face, if not smiling widely; but her lips did curve somewhat more as she caught sight of the dog between the woman at the front of the room's legs. She took a seat after that, nodding politely in greeting.
As one of the others introduced himself, she smiled and answered.
"The breakfast here is amazing. All the food has been - definitely the best location I've been for a briefing. And if introductions are in order, well. A pleasure to meet you, Sir Jonathan. I'm Erika Van Straaten. Formerly of the SANDF, but more recently a freelance consultant"

Interested. Especially if I could play as a member of a Lizardfolk/Argonian like coalition race. That would be fun.

There is a race that are reptilian, and you are certainly able to play as one!

Tooth & Claw

In the wake of an unprecedented accident, humanity is given incontrovertible proof that there is a multiverse and parallel worlds or alternate realities exist. Unfortunately, such knowledge comes at a high price, as those other realities start to intrude onto Earth. Hostile environments, creatures, and dangerous situations result.
And then, there's the attention that Earth and humanity have drawn. A hostile, interdimensional empire with advanced technology and a boundless need to expand, and dominate.
Fortunately, things are not all bad, as these Overlords have made other enemies, a Coalition of races who have formed a resistance against them - and Earth may be their best hope to fight back.
Combining their knowledge and experience with Earth's technology, weaponry, and determination, they manage to first hold, and then drive back an incursion onto Earth.
But this is only the beginning. Some breathing room has been given; a temporary reprieve and time to collect thoughts and strengthen alliances and to re-arm and rebuild.
More will be needed to defeat the Overlords. There is knowledge out there, in the vastness of the multiverse, and across these myriad parallel universes - if only it can be found. And it must be found, because the enemy are not sitting idle, for humanity or their new allies and friends. All of them must work together, to stand a chance for any of them to survive.

If the above sounds exciting and like a premise you'd enjoy, then read on for more information.
Tooth and Claw is an RP centered around a team of specially skilled, picked, and trained operatives with military and/or scientific backgrounds, human and of the coalition races, that are tasked with responding to interdimensional incursions onto Earth, and also exploring parallel or alternate versions of Earth in an effort to search for anything useful - be it knowledge, allies, or materiel - that may help in fighting and defeating the hostile interdimensional force known only as 'The Overlords'.

The teams will use both conventional weapons - such as modern day weaponry - as well as some more sci-fi tech and gear, and especially mini-mecha named CLAWs - Combat Lightweight Armoured Walkers - which work as hostile environment suits, as well as weapon platforms equipped with modular weaponry and equipment. Somewhere around 8-10 feet tall, these machines are larger than traditional powered armour, but much smaller than the mecha normally seen in science fiction.

As well as humans, the coalition consists of various humanoid races from parallel or alternate Earths. All of them are enemies with the Overlords, and have suffered losses due to their conflict with them, some of their worlds even being completely destroyed, or even their biology being heavily affected by the weapons used, or results of the conflict.
These races range from beings strongly resembling - and even named - Elves, others that look almost like the depictions of demons or other such creatures, and others that resembled anthropomorphic animals. All of them are allies to one another, and to humanity, despite their varying cultures and histories. As they come from different versions of Earth, they share great similarities with humans, as well as their differences. None of them have 'special powers' as such, but do possess some abilities or traits that are different to humans - but have their own disadvantages or drawbacks as part of their biology and evolutionary development.

The basic idea, is that the player characters will form one of these units and go on missions, some of them in their mecha, some of them not, some against the Overlords directly, some against other threats or situations - even domestic ones, as other nations or groups on Earth try to take advantage of the situation or cause their own trouble.
Each mission will form part of an overall story as the RP progresses, and character histories and backgrounds will be slowly woven into the wider story as things progress - providing the RP lasts long enough, anyway.

I am looking for a minimum of four to six players, but not more than eight.

The overall vibe will be one of action, adventure, and excitement. The situation is presented seriously and with drama and danger paramount. There is room for moments of levity and light-heartedness to break up the tension, and I expect much of that to come from character interactions.
While there is a definite element of larger-than-life ideas to things as well, and for things to get big, epic, and outrageously cinematic, the idea is still grounded in some realism and presented straight-faced and serious, rather than silly or exaggerated.

The inspiration for the RP comes from things such as Stargate SG-1, A series of books call 'The Looking Glass Series' by John Ringo (but definitely not his politics...!), the Half-Life video games, and many other things, all mashed together and with a story and setting of my own to (try) and make it all coherent, and work as an RP.

A full set of rules will be put up with the OOC, once enough interest is presented, along with a more full and detailed background and details on the various races and their origins, and more details on the CLAWs, the Overlords, and other such information.
I will try and answer any other questions that may be initially asked here, but first thing is establishing some interest with the bare bones of the idea.
The RP will probably be Casual, definitely not free.
GM Post coming this weekend, since it's been over the 14 days. Will also be where I can introduce @Arminwraith's characters, and give us a chance for a breather and introduce a bit more of the backstory of what's going on and why.
<snip>

Approved, I like the sound of them. I would also have suggested the drone too, although I'm glad to see it was something that others came up with - I didn't think of it at the time.
Feel free to post them in the characters tab. As soon as we get past this round of posts, I'll introduce them to the ongoing plot and you can join right in.
