Current The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

The one time I'm really eager for a Gundam - or even a mecha game where I can play using a Gundam - the site doesn't have any open or even going

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Keeper looks good, approved. Feel free to post them in the characters tab.

Okay, did a deeper reread of everything and starting my cs draft. A couple quick questions.

1) what is the extent of the human psychic abilities? It sounds like it could be anything within the mental realm or some physical augmentation, but no actual kinesis type powers.

2) are the other coalition species coming through strictly in a military/resistance sense? Or would more civilian/refugee types also be living on Earth?

1) I had pictured that human psychic abilities would be relatively low-level; telekinesis would be acceptable as part of that though.
2) As rightly stated by others; the Resistance isn't entirely a military operation (although, it's organised and run like one). Like many such movements through human history, it's anyone who wanted to and was able to fight back. Not just soldiers, but anyone from any walk of life. With Earth being a relatively comfortable and safe place though, there's definitely people who have moved to Earth to live a safer life and less of a violent one.

Felix looks good, feel free to post her in the characters tab

Sorry for the lack of replies; I have not been well, and I'm still not, and I'm going on holiday today until Friday/Saturday.
I'll see if I can squeeze in answering a couple of questions before I leave though
Also, as an FYI for everyone: I'm going to be relatively busy most of the weekend, but will hopefully find time to check in and post/reply a bit. However, I'm going on holiday from Monday - Friday and I don't know what my access will be like, and I won't have my laptop with me, so replies will be limited.
As it is; I'm still waiting for some people from the Int Check to come back with whether they're still interested, and for others to post character sheets, so the IC won't be up until after I return anyway, at the earliest.
So, you all have time to work on Character Sheets, and I'll answer any questions I can.

As always, the Discord is the best way to get in touch, as I'll likely have access to that readily and easily - DM me if you want the link.

@Rhona W

Hmm. Well, for war-priest type, modern (for the setting) formal combat and tactical training in this universe would be a given. Besides the paint (I'm thinking black with some purple chevrons on the limbs) could there be some added embelshments? Some ornaite symbols of the characters faith welded (as in on the chest) or tied around the neck or to the wrist? Or how about things like a tabbard wrapped around the outside of the suit?

As for phyche evaluations, the character is quite sane. It would be zealous not mad. I haven't forgotten this character needs to work with characters that might have clashing personalities, hence its faith being a knight hospitaler rip off. You know, medicine and charity wedded to zealoutry and war.

TLDR: overly religious combat medic.

Sounds all fine to me, including the customisations for the MAS as well. I like the sound of the colour scheme alone, the other stuff sounds like it'd be just quirky enough to get by, especially with things being relatively hands off. Also I can just imagine how cool it would look with the MAS taking a few hits, and the tabard being smouldering and singed as it walks out of a cloud of smoke and flame
I... I've got nothing...

Sorry guys, but after repeatedly trying to write up a character who fits this rp and then realizing that my idea would be no fun to actually play, I'm going to call it quits on this one.

Have fun, folks.

Ah, that's a shame - I was really looking forward to you joining in, since you'd been one of the most enthusiastic ones about the RP from the start. Well, if you come up with something else later on that you think would work, you'll be welcome.

And in a real twist of Tenet-ception, I had the write-up for how the Fungi would impact the character living rent-free in my head for pretty much the past 20 years to the day. Which is why I figured I'd ask to what extent it was corrupted by the plague... pretty sure we don't want a "Last of Us" sort of background-shenanigans kicking off just as the war ends (Felix came about much later, largely to be resistant to its more debilitating affects).

And yeah, I know; it can't exist outside of anhur genetics, probably something about a slightly more chilled body-temperature... but what if it could exist in a hybrid? Granted, the likelihood of such a thing ever being a problem is about unlikely as me going off on a trip with my own toe-fungus... Still, it's a thing that can keep a mycologist up some nights.

We'll probably get the special cloaks out to the troops most likely to need it, or volunteers willing to trial them. In the meantime, Felix will just have to make-do with her gundam-cosplay.

I hadn't really thought about the fungus being altered or mutated... but now I am, and that's a fun hook for an adventure at some point that I'm squirrelling away for long enough that you've forgotten about it, and I can develop it suitably so it's not obvious.
Interesting thought about it surviving in a hybrid - maybe one of the goals of the hybrid project was to reduce or remove the dependence on the symbiotic relationship altogether, so that the Anhur would be more able to survive on a wider variety of worlds. It seems like a logical reason to undertake such a project, or at least, one reason.

Had an interest in this, though high si-fi is a little out of my wheelhouse. Are there any spiritual aspects to the setting? Or nothing concrete? I had an idea for hyper zealous, warrior-monk/cultist. Buuuut, I don't know whether it would be more knight hospitaller or ascentionist, depending on the setting. I would also love to know if our characters can absolutely bastardize (in this case zealot it up) the MAS Suit?

I honestly hadn't considered spiritual aspects, as really; it's not something I tend to think of myself so it doesn't really come into my thoughts all that often. So, nothing concrete yet. Regardless; if they had some kind of formal tactical training or experience, then they could fit into the SPEAR units. Maybe if it was combined with some kind of cultural or social studies expertise and understanding if you wanted to go a less martial route? Also I suppose it depends on how 'Zealous' they were/are, as they'd have to be able to fit in with and work reliably alongside the rest of the unit and pass it's psych evaluations and tests.

In terms of the MAS Customization; you're pretty much limited to cosmetic modifications, and even then; it'd have the same basic underlying appearance.
Having read over it again just now I can see what you mean. I'll adjust it a bit, but systems accentuation is effectively like having a cyberdeck from cyberpunk, only instead of using said cyberdeck to hack people it's for more basic things like generally interacting with computerized stuff.

I'll try and make it more readable in an edit.

I'll remove The Assumption too because they kinda do that anyway but I didn't know if writing them to be that smart would count them as a paranormal human.

I see what you mean from that explanation; it's sort of a device or tool that aids with remote hacking or control of systems/devices that would enable such; i.e. anything wirelessly connected. That seems fine to me, and could work as part of their implants and enhancements as well.
Removing the Assumption is fine if you want to do that, certainly if they're very smart anyway, it could just be a character trait or quirk of their personality that they make connections of logic in a certain way based on experience and knowledge.

@FalloutJack, edits look good - While I hadn't considered Non-human Coalition weapons, something like a Pulse Rifle and how it operates seems more-than reasonable. It's not too overly high-tech, but just enough so that it would fit the scope of the setting well. Also it's just an iconic weapon, so I'm happy to make room for it.
I like the idea of the man-portable micro-missile launcher as well - it makes sense, given the existence of micro and mini-missiles, and it fits the concept for Maxon as well. Also flexibility, given the different kinds of micro-missiles available.
I'm happy to approve the pair and you can post them in the characters tab at your convenience.
I did once - not long ago, in fact - see someone after getting their character app rejected from an RP, go and create a blatant and far inferior knock-off of the same RP. And in the Advanced section at that, when it was barely 'free' in terms of its' coherence and clarity.
Obviously, it didn't get very far at all. And AFAIK, the person behind it pretty much turned out to be a troll anyway, based on my own experiences with them.
But it seemed somewhat relevant to the conversation, given we're talking about people creating knock-off or clones of ideas of other people's work, and it was a relevant example of something that seems a bit... I don't know, sad and kind of lame.
Create something similar by all means; lord knows there's a lot of RPs that have very similar elements at any given time, much like how there are always 'mockbusters' when a big movie or TV Show comes out and is popular. But at least try and make an effort to make it something distinct and creative if you're actually serious about running something.

RL killing pacing
'sounds fair, since I was describing her via several ill-fitting cliches that kept getting piled on top of each other. I'll dial it back a bit, especially the impulsiveness causing/used-to-rationalize at least half those statblock shenanigans.

... Kinda still want to keep a large shotgun though (the KS-23, not some MAS-type). Mostly because if a pilot does need to bail-out chances are there's still going to be a MAS-sized threat they'll have to deal with and a combat-knife probably won't be able to cut it. But I suppose a demolition-charge could work in its place.

I'm also hoping the survival-cloak could become standard-issue, actually. As a means to aid pilots in SERE should they need to bail. It also has alternative uses of it for running recon, sniping, and taking naps. I figure such a piece of kit may be genuinely useful for anyone and everyone.

Most of the rework is working on phrasing. Personality may take awhile, brain is stuck on "owl".

I did consider giving the MAS Suits active camouflage, but eventually decided against it - they've got too much going on already, and I figured it'd be something for progression in the story. So, maybe not the camo cloak yet, but it might be something that gets discovered or invented over the course of the narrative and gameplay.
KS-23 is fine, given the kind of threats that are around it's not unreasonable that they may have become more common in production and wider usage. Synths being what they are, and the same for aggressive alien fauna. Although, hopefully, bailing out of your MAS Suit won't be something you have to deal with all too often, and even if you do have to deal with it, hopefully the rest of the squad will still be around to help.
Owls are good, I like owls. Both real ones and anthro ones.

@FalloutJack, regarding the derg siblings - I think my reservations were a little on the lines of 'they don't quite match what I was thinking for the Dranfel', less in terms of their appearance, but more their 'culture'. But then, I had a think about it (when I was trying to sleep and failing), and figured that, much like our own society, Dranfel society wouldn't be completely homogenous.
That's one thing that does annoy me in Sci-Fi sometimes, when you have an alien race and they're all one personality trait or set of customs and traditions. So, perhaps it's because of whichever region they're from and that culture is somewhat different to that of other Dranfel.
I will say that the emphasis on melee combat seems a bit antiquated in the setting, given the reliance on technology, and that you might need to reframe that slightly, and the same with giving them more of a conventional military/paramilitary background and training.
But it's not a big deal, and can easily be squeezed in.

Maxson's claw weapons also seem like they'd make good MAS Suit weapons too, honestly - I did actually consider something similar but left it out at the last minute.
Give them a little bit of a tweak, and I think they'll be fine, thank you ^^

heyo, I literally joined the site after reading your interest check haha. I skimmed through everything but am interested in creating a human character to add to the cast! I have a vague idea (I only know they will be Korean and have some fun psychic ability) so will ruminate after reading more thoroughly and submit. but do lmk if you are already at character limit or approaching it!

I'm flattered that you thought the RP was enough to want to join the site and join in. Have fun reading, but the character idea sounds like a good starting concept already.
No hard cap as of yet; still waiting on some people to submit their apps after the interest check, so we'll see who comes across or not from there.

</sniptacular>

I must admit, with your name and PFP, I expected a Dranfel xD
But, I like Callan; they seem interesting. Someone more from the science/tech side is a good compliment to the heavy military/combat bias we have so far. My only thing of note is that they'd probably have received some formal training before being assigned to a SPEAR team, if only to make sure everyone knows how to work together - regardless of how smart they are, but that's a minor thing.
I would say, as far as their abilities go, I don't think having been enhanced as much as they are and then having other abilities on top of that is necessary - that would already make them very formidable. Having other abilities on top of that is a bit unbalanced. I would say that having the 'sixth sense' - though, don't expect it to always be accurate in practice, of course - and a high degree of enhancements is fine, without the technical ability as well. Especially given their extremely high level of competence in a fairly broad range of fields. Although, if you can explain the Systems Interface Attenuation ability in a more practical sense, that might help - as it stands at the moment, the description doesn't really explain what it actually does very well from my reading of it.
