Bios are stupid; oh, sure, everyone can see them, but I bet nobody reads them.
Rude hand gestures and shpadoinkle, there.
No, I wasn't drunk when I wrote this, but I was very tired.
In Greek mythology, "The Gigantes" are where we got the word for "Giants", as well as the idea of them. The tale where they featured most prominently was called "The Gigantomachy", and was considered the end of the Greek legends.
How appropriate, than, that for us, Their arrival signaled one thing:
The End.
Nobody knows where They came from; speculation was all over the place. Reports put them anywhere from 5 to 20 meters, rising from the seas, emerging from the earth, charging down the mountains. By the time everyone knew They were real, They were everywhere, They couldn't be reasoned with, and They couldn't be stopped.
The big cities got hit the hardest, one or more charging in faster than they could evacuate, or even sound the alarm- millions were consumed by Them in just the first 2 months.
Our armies tried, but were also among the first to fall. They were too strong.
We fled underground; hiding was our only option. Some say there are floating colonies out on the seas, but for now, underground is all we know-
The Surface belongs to Them.
We manage to get by with what we have, but sometimes we have to go up, for scavenging and forage. Sometimes we even catch radio signals from other shelters!
It's dangerous to go up, but the bold and brave who keep managing to return earned a place of honor among the survivors. They come back with tales of having to flee, or even fight Them, and the lengths they have to go to in order to survive! Officially, they're just called Rangers, but the people's eyes light up with hope as they start to call them
Giant Slayers
Welcome to the Giant Slayers rp!
This is a post-apocalyptic setting, where the surface of Earth is too dangerous for human civilization due to the presence of colossal predatory creatures that resemble humans and primates. Humans have been living primarily underground for at least 5 years since They came. People call these creatures Giants, or Them/They collectively.
They are enigmatic in origin, and most people within the setting don't concern themselves all that much with the question. It doesn't matter where They came from; They're here, and all we can do is deal with it.
In terms of sensory perception, They seem to work like zombies; They use all senses equally. If a Giant hears or smells something that might indicate a human presence inside the old office building, it won't matter that it can't see the player characters. It will investigate, including tearing into the building like a bear into an old stump to eat the ants inside it.
They seem to have animal brains, and nobody has found any evidence that they can be reasoned with- everyone who's tried was captured and eaten.
Humans are the preferred prey of Giants, but nothing is known about Their metabolism to indicate how often they actually need to eat. They've supposedly eaten other animals as well, but outside of rumors we only know that they eat humans, and each other (mostly their wounded/dead).
Moles Most humans have been living underground, in shelters that vary in size from family size from caves to family sized shelters to bunkers that are effectively subterranean cities. They tend to have better resources, materials and are better organized than the raiders they encounter on the surface, and resent the animosity directed at themselves.
Ruin-Rats The rare packs/groups of humans who manage to survive on the surface are pretty hostile to any others coming into their territories, especially the Undergrounders/Moles. They have a hard enough time fighting each other over scraps and avoiding Them without the Undergrounders agitating Them.
Rangers/Giant Slayers These are people from both groups who've figured out ways to fight/escape Them when they can't avoid them; they're very good at surviving, and using the environment to their advantage when available. One way or another, both groups have a strong reverence for these individuals; Moles try to have an experienced Ranger or two on every expedition to the surface, including in the planning stages, and among the Ruin-Rats they find themselves rising to positions of leadership.
I'm keeping character sheets minimal:
Player: Character Name: Description: written or image is fine Mole/Rat (put a line through the one you aren't) Occupation: Gear: Background:
submit characters in the OOC first, and please don't put them in the character tab until they're approved.
I hadn't thought of factions- raiders come to mind; scrappy outlaws, some of whom have managed to survive on the surface and declare themselves the king of one ruin or another on the surface, and aren't too friendly towards the "moles".
As for killing Them... They're abnormally strong, at any size, 20 meter class and above are effectively kaiju; find somewhere to hide, and hope they haven't caught your scent. the "smaller" ones can be killed with sufficient artillery, but that is not in ample supply. Even before the fall of man, some battles were won, but it was a bit like the opening battle of The Last Jedi; sure, some forces managed to kill a colossus or two, but the losses required showed it was not a winning, long-term strategy. Those who do have old world super weapons settle for disabling the beast in such a way that prevents pursuit; blow off a foot/leg, or topple a building on it, and run like hell before he digs his way out. Or, critically wound one when there's a plurality, and the others will turn and eat that one instead (because cannibalistic predators).
The Giants don't regenerate, and their anatomy isn't all that different from ours, the issue is scale- A skull that's 10 feet tall is going to be very thick, so even with a tank, head-shots aren't a guaranteed kill. Even if you try to go for the eyes, tank gunman aren't snipers, and They tend to close the distance pretty quickly once you have Their attention.
What if "Attack on Titan" stayed the unique, apocalyptic horror story that made it cool, and didn't turn into... What it turned into -_-U?
That's the idea for this; cannibalistic giants somehow rapidly appeared all over the world, and because they basically operated like zombies (they can't be intimidated and never stop/go away), civilization crumbled. What remained of humanity was driven underground- staying out of sight was the only way to avoid Them. Resources are limited, though, and keeping the bunkers alive sometimes means sending people to the surface to scavenge among the ruins of the old world. Trade also became a quest unto itself; communications between the bunkers could be spotty, and many were understandably hesitant to risk venturing into the wilds just to see if the neighbors were home.
Victory isn't an option- the war for Earth was won, and it wasn't us. All that remains is to survive, and not get caught under-foot.
So, I guess another tl;dr could be "What if AoT was more like Fallout?"
About Lycanthropy: I've been thinking that a man becomes a werewolf when he is subject to an ancient curse - one that forces him to share his body with a vengeful animal spirit. Sometimes the conditions for the curse come about naturally, almost as a matter of fate. Others are born into the curse, for once it has taken hold, its effects are hereditary. Sharing a body with the animal spirit grants greatly enhanced perception, and a surplus of vitality. Bearers of the curse are healthy individuals, and due to its effects, their natural lifespan is roughly doubled. Werewolf families tend to keep large private hunting grounds to try and contain the evidence of their transformations. Those less fortunate might live on the run, haunted by their sins or dogged by investigators.
That might give you some things to consider as you think about a character.
Be wary of Irish Saints; at least two have supposedly cursed people to be werewolves o_OU although historically werewolves have also had a more mixed reputation in the region, so, who knows what to expect?
More than once in my younger years I tried to do one that was very "syfy presents"; I simply called it "Androids vs Vampires", and it was more like "What if Screamers(1994ish) but on earth and they're fighting vampires too"
Your idea is already much better thought out, I meant no insult
I find myself with time, so here's a silly idea I had a few weeks ago.
Through some mix up, an alien animal dealer was looking for crites (critters), but gets mogwai by mistake.
At the same time, a bounty hunter team docks their vessel at the same station, transporting crites around the same time that the mogwai have gotten loose, and metamorphosed into gremlins.
The gremlins, in their mischief and curiosity, release the crites.
Shenanigans ensue, with the people aboard the station caught in the middle and unable to flee the station.
