Milo Ventri

Milo was panting hard, sweat was dripping and his leg felt like giving out, but he kept his ground, across from him was a man covered head to toe in padded armor, a large sword hoisted over his head, it had been years since the last time he had been in this position, the heat of his armor and the weight of the blade in his hand, these were the days he had missed, so much of his life had died when he left home though here he was finally starting to feel like himself again. Milo took a deep breath as the man approached, he held fast to the sword in his own hand, turned on his heel and as the man stepped in to strike at his head, Milo deflected and struck across the mans back, the whistle blew and the match was over, Milo had lost a lot of mobility, but it was evident none the less why he had won so many tournaments.

"Wow man, I haven't seen swordplay like that other than the movies." the young opponent removed his helmet and held out his hand to Milo to congratulate him. "Really, I am stoked you came out, when you called I swear I thought it was so cool that you wanted to come practice with us, I mean I saw you fight a few years back in delta, man that was awesome."

Milo nodded, the kids enthusiasm was not as contagious as he would have hoped, though the guy was nice enough but he was ten years younger than Milo and had not been beaten within an inch of his life yet. "Just nice to know I can still get some practice in." Milo was putting away his gear while the guy kept talking, the boy was a chatterbox, and he always spoke way to loud. Milo felt bad for the kid only because the only time he wasn't talking was the moments after being struck, only giving Milo the incentive to hit him more. Milo had found a Hema group that was happy to have him train with them, they were able to use one of the rooms at the local gym. Milo left the ring and went to actually put in some exercise time, barbell, leg work, a full work out with a focus on leg mobility.

Milo left the gym and took out his cell phone, he had tried to call Vika after everything that had happened, but he didn't get a response, if she wasn't going to let him explain, he just wouldn't, with how she reacted and the huge gash she dug into Paige's car, Milo was a bit concerned about what it was she was wanting. Milo had no messages or calls however, today was some big race that she had mentioned, like hell he was just going to go without so much as a hello in days. Milo was about to put away his phone when it rang, it was Jackie, great, this was what he was waiting for, a chance to clean up the mess he left himself in.

"Hey buddy, how you been Milo?" The grease was almost oozing from the phone as the man talked.

"Was great, how do you plan to fix it?" Milo tried to keep his tone even and as normal as ever. the last thing Milo wanted was to have him catch on that he was up to something.

"Well you see, here is the long and skinny of it, I need a new handgun, that one you made me before, my employers were so happy with it, that they feel like they need a second, you know the one, the big one." Jackie didn't know that Milo had the first one now, he was trying to play it like he still had it. "I know you said you wouldn't do it anymore, but come on, I know you need the cash."

"Jackie, I don't really need the cash, and you know that it's illegal and I don't want to do it anymore." Same song and dance they always play, but this time it should have a different end.

"Come on, what if I sweeten the pot?" Jackie said with a strong inflection, Milo hadn't heard him try to bargain like this, what could he offer him that he would take? "So look, I know you have been real sore about it, but my employers, they really like your work, they want you on full time Milo, no joke, work with me on this and you can get some real perks, they aren't just offering cash or dope here. You need a rival shop shut down? Done. Pesky ex? Done. Trouble with the authorities? ...Done." Milo was shocked, was he serious? Paying off a debt was one thing, but working for them, what did Jackie think he meant when he said he wanted nothing more to do with this. "What do you say buddy? Show the big wigs that you got the chops."

Milo wasn't happy about it, but this was the plan, he had to go along with it. "I do this, and you're saying that your 'employers' are gonna back me up mafia style?"

"Day of my daughters wedding and all my friend." Jackie retorted, honestly this wasn't a bad deal on the surface, and Milo might have taken it a month ago, but times are different.

"Alright, swing by and we will talk over the design, five pm yeah?" Milo told him as he tried to sound defeated, even though this was the goal all along.

"That's my boy. Five sharp, make sure you're there, and hopefully not bleeding." the man laughed as the two hung up.

Milo scrolled through his contacts, he got to Paige's name and gave he a call, she need to know what was going on, and that he had set the time, she didn't have a ton of time to prepare so hopefully she wasn't too busy, but if she didn't show, he may end up with either a bigger problem or a body.

Alisdair

Alisdair had caught the eye of the more tribal looking woman, he felt a wizened gaze descend upon him and it filled him with excitement. Was she studying him? Curious. Most people in the city would only look to the Scholars at the face value, skilled magicians with a propensity towards charms and talismans, but no one really ever tried to delve, perhaps they thought it rude, like looking a gift horse in the mouth, however, this was exactly the sort of thing that Alisdair was after, a challenge, an opportunity, the form of energy she radiated intrigued him, but if they were anything alike, his would do the same to her. The game begins then, how much can Alisdair glean without giving away his own secrets in turn.

From a glance he could see truly very little, she was exotic looking, decorated in a way he didn't understand for the time and the climate, she was clearly a practitioner of some traditional magic, druid, shaman, vulva, whatever she was, it was new, or so old that he hasn't studied it. she was currently watching him, but a staring contest wouldn't do, no, so he waved a hand in greeting and smiled a bright smile. Dairn wanted to tease the woman, something to dangle from the string and draw the fish in close, so he let his sleeve fall back a bit so that the feathered charms on his wrist could show. If his assumption was right, the idea of new charms and talismans would catch the eye, perhaps provoke a introduction, however he chose to not sit about and wait for it, instead he perused the wares of the market absently while never truly letting the woman stray from sight.

Alisdair smiled at the now mostly humanoid bakeneko as he asked about the location of the library, that was the easiest question he would get all day, the library of the city was the castle in the middle of town, the home of the Scholarly works, and since the opening of the city, it is monitored and guided by the Scholars themselves, it is known to house the collective knowledge of countless civilizations, harvested by the Scholars by whatever means they had.

"The library is the large castle in the middle of town, it is impossible to miss. I would take you myself, however, I am also not allowed to take food in." he said as he hefted the bucket up a bit. "If you head there though there will likely be others there to guide you through and help you with whatever studies you intend to indulge." Dairn was always happy to discuss studies, his demeanor almost fully changed at the topic, though with the twinge of disappointment as he knew he wasn't headed there as well. "I wish you well on you travels and your studies though, may you learn all you can." and with a small bow he took his leave.

After Dairn dropped off the honey in his home he left again to wander about a bit, searching for a new topic of study, the streets still filled with the bustling people of the city and many people selling wares, some local children stopped to wave at him and some just said hello as many did, since the opening, many had taken to the Scholars like kind hosts, even though they felt the city was for everyone now. However the curiosity of a three people talking about coffee, they had been there since he had left, they were what he was focusing on at the moment.

Milo Ventri

Milo listened as Paige went on asking for the info, the phone number was on his phone anyway so he just pulled out his phone and pulled it up and slid the whole thing to Paige. He held the gun out in front of him, now cleaned up and looking better, there were nicks in the gun from where someone had tried to spin the gun like a cowboy from the movies and failed. He looked up at Paige, she was glaring at him again, always glaring, what does she want out of him, she never cared whether he felt bad about anything, she pushed Ana from him even when he was apologizing profusely. What was it she wanted? All Milo could think was to hell with her, and to hell with Jackie, and to hell with all of it, if this nightmare was his, then he planned to get himself out. Milo walked back to his shelf, and rummaged through some of his cabinets, he grabbed a few clinking pieces of metal and turned back to Paige and Sio.

"Alright then, your looking to shut him down, get my guns back, and be the big hero and get the credit for it?" Milo clicked the cylinder out of the pistol and started to place large rounds into it one at a time. "Jackie is gonna want a new pistol, I already told him I wouldn't build it, but he won't listen, it was the third time I had done so, he will come back to get a new one." When he finished loading the gun he clicked the cylinder back in and set the gun down. "If this is how it is gonna go, I may as well fight."

Milo wasn't sure what he wanted to say when Paige moved her topic back to Vika, after what just happened at the door he was starting to wonder about her himself. When he had met her she was fiery and striking, full of piss and vinegar, but that little outburst at the door, that wasn't how he had thought she would react, almost..like he had back in Delta, easily distraught, quick to just run and hide. He honestly thought that she would have pushed past him and sat it anyway, but she just walked away, like he had.

"We met at a Jazz night at swan song, she was berating some journalist or something and we just struck up a conversation. She was obviously a bit disabled, but she was not letting anything stop her from being who she wanted, I guess I kind was drawn to that." Milo looked up at her, Paige and Ana were the same way, the three of them were all bull headed and pretty uncompromising, at least until his accident, to be fair, having the gun in hand, and a scheme starting to take form to get what they all want, this is the first time he has felt like his old self. "I'm going to help you do this, it's my damn mess, I can't run this time."

either way is cool by me, it sounds like a great way to really express the cultures
That sounds like a great idea, a festival for the moon would be a cool addition though maybe a new year tradition, a monthly deal would be taxing on the partying.

Milo knew the moment the door shut that he had made a bad choice, but what else could he do, have her come in and listen to the conversation about his side projects, and how they may be involved with gang related activities. Milo looked at the gun again, Paige started to talk again, was she serious? What made her think that he was going to just up and tell her anything like that? Milo clicked the chamber open, shut it, thumbed the hammer, he was regretting making these stupid things to begin with, now it just goes to show, no easy rides. Milo just wanted to go home, back to Delta, he never wanted to be here like this, he had made a shady deal with Jackie that first week in Sol, trade a gun for some start up cash, something to turn the shitty warehouse into a proper home and shop, now he had four more guns, no serial, no marks other than his caliber marks, that really, only Paige would have known about anyway floating around Sol, maybe they weren't even in the city anymore, he didn't know, but what he did know was that if Paige started digging heavy handed like she was prone to do, she would end up dead.

"Jackie Costa, He bought five guns in total, I'd give you his phone number but its obviously a burner." Milo stood and took the gun to a shelf by his table and pulled out what he needed in a drawer to clean it later, "What do you think you will do with that info? Run in guns blazing and blow the bad guy away? He has handmade firearms, there isn't a law against that." Milo took out a cigar from his drawer and lit it, he took a long draw and looked at Paige, "Another dream becomes a nightmare, all at my own hands, and with you laughing at me." Milo gave her what she wanted, no more half truths, just bitter reality, even in Delta he tried to shift the blame of what happened, the driver that hit him, his depression, even Paige, a lot Paige, but never once would he say he had messed up, now he was singing a new tune, one of someone who knows that at the end of the day our lives are what we make of them. "Honestly it was nice to talk to you like we were almost friends again, almost." Milo took a long pull on his cigar, and set himself to cleaning the hand cannon that Paige had brought in.
