I just finished The Secret History, a very Gen X book. Never Let Me Go before that, which I'd recommend to any writer outside the MFA atmosphere who wants to know emotonal restraint.
Sorry folks. Recent events (read: school, and a demand for a certain RP) have forced me to go back on my word and close this down.
I'm very sorry, and I really liked the concept, to say nothing of the gathering of players, so I will put this in the archives with my "Runaways" idea as comic games to try again when I've got the time/willpower.
Few things: the "big bad" was a godling of the universe that the current universe's Big Bang destroyed in creating the current universe; it's spirit seared into a "living gem" not unlike the Infinity Gems. Literally we were dealing with a ghost story on a scale of cosmic badassery.
For those wondering, no, that was NOT an Infinity Gem that Peter was wearing.
Wanna know the rough plot outline? Read below.
The end-game would have included a chase at speeds far beyond the speed of light (because fuck physics); the Milano chasing down the massive crystaline ghost 'vessel' to the edge of the universe, before it entered 'dark space' and maybe created another Big Bang (or maybe not); space/time would have blurred, allowing a fight, but with a place to pause for the characters to decide whether to attempt to 'kill' the ghost, reason with it, or just let it go.
Naturally, the ending would have depended on what our heroes chose, and if they came to blows with each other due to disagreement.
Someone would have been shot in the Real World, giving that character a taste of how the mundane deal with such things, and the reality of no hope of meta/super help.
After finding the Space Gem in the Real World, we would have hit Star Wars just in time to be captured by an Imperial Remnant in the Milano. Luke Skywalker would have come to the rescue, assisting in finding (and defeating) herald of Galactus the Silver Surfer, attempting to locate the Time Gem so his master may trade it to Thanos, though for what reason we would not have known. A fight with a cloned Darth Maul would have gone down, resulting in the maiming of one our party.
Our group would have sprung onto the Gotham City scene just in time to assist Batman in fighting his rogue's gallery. (Condiment King, anyone?) Batman would have helped our heroes figure out Thanos' end game, and taken our band to Zatana--in order to magically "call" Dream, of the Endless. Dream would have been able to explain that cosmic forces beyond the Endless had "stolen" Marvel's Death when Death of the Endless went missing, afraid of another Blackest Night, figuring the Marvel U could handle it on their end.
Of course, at the end, Batman would have told us all to "Get out of my city, and never come back." During this, Jean would have been forced into the Joker's head, and not to her benefit.
Steve would have recognized Bucky in the suit, and slyly/silently given a nod of approval. Our characters would have taken on a Hydra unit during the height of the Battle of the Bulge. The Red Skull would have in his possession another Infinity Gem, and once taken by our team, would have instantly 'zapped' us to the Virginia countryside...
...and right into the sights of Daryl and Michonne, from The Walking Dead. The pair would have lead us back to Alexandria, and a surprisingly casual meeting with Death of the Endless, unable to get home on her own. After a brush up with the Wolves and an immense horde, someone in the group would have been bitten, causing a choice to be made by the group. Death leads us back to the DCU, and a confrontation between Death of the MCU and Death of the DCU.
This would've lead to a return of Death, and a thankful Thanos would have revealed the location of the great crystalline ghost, the big bad. Then the chase, and the end game.
And of course, if you want to keep up with me, feel free to add me upon Skype or PM me.
Want to keep writing with me? Try Gowi's Maximum Comics, in which I currently play Wonder Woman.
"Fear is for the winter, my little lord, when the snows fall a hundred feet deep and the ice wind comes howling out of the north. Fear is for the long night, when the sun hides its face for years at a time, and little children are born and live and die all in darkness while the direwolves grow gaunt and hungry, and the white walkers move through the woods.”
Step into the world of Westeros; take on the plate armor of a Knight, the cloaks and daggers of a Spy, the desperation of the lowborn, the grand schemes of the highborn, or the oath of the Night's Watch. Take control of an entire Great House, or a lowborn servant risen high through the power of cunning and their own will. Whoever you choose, be ready: for this is a Game none of us are assured to win, let alone survive.
Game Overview
The IC setting will take place well before the events of the series/show.
Consider this an Alternate Universe; canon is our starting off point, not our end point.
Winter is nearly here in our setting. It comes faster and harsher than any in recorded history.
This is not a NRP. Think other PCs are your greatest threat? Just wait.
Advanced standards; collaborative storytelling at it's finest.
You're assumed to be an adult by submitting a character for this game; please act like one.
Most importantly this game will continue the tradition of a hybrid approach of sandbox and storyline RP all our prior games have had. However, and differently than any other GoT game before, the 'main event' to this game is set before we even get started with an IC. So go ahead, plot and scheme against your fellow players...you may well find yourself lost out in the cold when darkness spreads and the Others come upon their giant white spiders to take you and yours.
Any questions, or comments, you might have are welcome. For the time being I'm going to be the only GM, though that could change before the game gets rolling in earnest.
"Strange shit started happening to the 6th World after the start-up of the great Matrix in the Cloud. This new wireless Matrix has made a lot of things easier: easier for you to be tracked, easier for your Nuyen to be moved in neat, tidy, transactions. Easier for the news to get to you, easier for you to buy your MegaCorp master's newest gadget. It's made running in the Shadows a little easier, and a little harder, too. And that would have been fine, we could have adapated, if they had left well enough alone. They didn't. Now magic is starting to 'crash', and not even this wireless Matrix seems to have any bit of idea as to why, or what might be behind it. But we in the Shadows have a few ideas.
So get ready to Run, kid, get ready to Run for your life." - Fastjack
Game Brief:
Post Crash 2.0 world, new wireless Matrix exists.
The second SURGE of 2061 has reignited feelings against metahumans; tensions are at an all time high.
'Shadowtalk' moved from Shadowland BBS (killed in the Crash 2.0) to P2P network Jackpoint.
Players will be taking up one in a small team of Shadowrunners.
Each Runner will be moderate in experience and reputation.
Will mostly take place in Seattle.
Advanced standards, reasonable posting requirements. We all have lives.
The game will follow a story progression; although hopefully it will play out more like a sandbox. I very much hope to avoid GM post, round of response postings, GM post, round of response postings, etc, etc. On that end I do not plan on playing a PC, and I will not be playing the 'lead' Shadowrunner. I've got someone in mind for the role, but nothing set in stone, and I suppose it could end up being anyone. The story is more or less set; but the END of the story is not, and the plot is rather open ended.
For much of the game, magic will be nerfed, as Fastjack alluded to in the above quote. It's as if magic is being repressed on a metaphysical scale; the same old spells don't result in the same old results. Sometimes they won't even work at all. I'll figure out a way to where that doesn't make Adepts and Shaman and Mages wet noodles in a scruff; so don't let that deter you from any character concepts.
Right, I'll start preparing my tearducts for the sob inducing, soul destroying criticism sure to follow. Though in fairness, I try and be a little conscious of how terrible I am.
