A janitor in a big tech suit and the back up of several people could work, that the red sky is more or less, motherfucking ,pissing death like the harsh, unabated words of an abusive mother who swigs too far into her wine cabinet. A clean up and environment management on an alien world, turning hostile landscape works fine.
So like how expansive are the character sheets gonna look like or is a name and a short bio gonna do for John Doe? As if we have the high probability of death I'd assume we have the choice to go light on the bio.
The sheets are going to be at their core pretty basic, one or the reason you stated but also because realistically the nature of the backstory means if I asked more I'd probably get a complete history on some former 7/11 guy trauma of having to clean shit off the ceiling since most of these people are normal folks who went into cryosleep until now.
So most of the sheet will be at their core about picking what kind of role you'd like to be, what suit you're going to pick and a simple appearance and background. Think of "small dossier" crew file style of sheet.
I won't write out the suit and role choices until he main RP itself is built.
I'm going to be a bit, motherfucking, evil kaneval here and make including a personality segment optional. I tend to do better myself without a hardened personality written out before hand but I know others ain't like that.

I don't know if it was alive in and of itself, but death started to drizzle from it until it was a veritable downpour. This red water caused rapid mutagenic growth and changes with little coherency. Any creature with a lifespan beyond months quickly went extinct and those capable of finding shelter and producing fast enough before their mutations killed them spawned a strange variety of creatures, creatures who were living in a unstable, unpredictable ecology...
well. Except for us. I like to say that we fought hard, the average person did, but technological overconfidence and elite incompetence ensured that by the time any sensible action was taken that we were on the backfoot. Enter us...
Found Hope. A dingy ship with the latest in cryo-sleep tech and all the fancy facilities to make a new home, and with it the birth of the Star Gazer laser, a giant beast which needs absurd amounts of energy to fire even once. We used the prototype of such a thing to crack a hole for Found Hopes escape.
But it's following us, a red mass, incomprehensible in size and it been doing so for literally hundreds of years now, slowly, but surely, gaining inch by tiny inch. It almost upon us. It time to wake up and fight. This time...we're ready for it"
Premise
Earth has been lost to a planet engulfing anomaly called Red Sky but through the use of a prototype laser that needs massive amount of energy a hole if punctured and single ship escapes. This ship is Found Hope; a top of the line cryo-sleep model with enough people, and resources to settle on a new planet. They are pursued by Earth's apocalypse which is steadily getting closer. The ship decides that their only recourse is to find a suitable planet, land and try to finish this fight now they have a weapon that can hurt it. Ultimately this is a last stand colony with the characters acting as the main players.
Suits and Mortality
Players can die in this but have multiple chances. All player die instantly if they are hit without any form of suit to protect them. There will be a small list of suit types and each of these suits will have a bar like this:

Each suit will slowly regain their points for a set amount of time you are UNSUITED. If any of your suit bars hit 0 and you get hit you die. Hazard protects against chemical and atmospheric dangers and so also represent your oxygen reserves. Impact Negation deals strictly with damage and combat, this ranges from slashing to smacking to gun shots. Some attacks deal both, such as acid spit for instance.
The Colony
Found Hope is equipped defacto with all the basic materials you will need to do most jobs. It has a large workshop with rovers, light vehicles, bikers and small boats as well as modification tables and parts for the alteration of these light vehicles into drillers and construction applications vehicles. Armoured Vehicles are also here but nothing with any serious tank-like abilities.
A heavy Research and Development area fitted with basic genetic analysing lab equipment along with a fully equip and near luxurious hospital segment, there are also multiple bullet proof, chemically resistant glass containment areas with scanners inside for examining captured subjects or just to hold normal prisoners.
At the centre is a large warehouse with a lower, underground bunker where all the fabricators and 3D printers are kept, along with large stores of seeds of every variation. Several large cubic blocks act as apartment flats for residents with all the basic amenities you would expect. The very centre is for logistical control, mess hull gatherings/ meal times and for political chambers.
Put it simply. The colony has everything you need for most simple construction, research and logistical or lifestyle changes you would require. Meat is grown on plants in a special hydrobay as well. The one thing is has in limitation is time...and people.

ontop of every post made by me is your total population. In order to do things it is unavoidable that normal people will die, you will need these as resources for squadrons, support, construction and to fill up a lot spots for any major plan you have or task you need to fufill. People act mostly as support npc's, out of sight and with no identity but without them humanity will come to an end.
As the players you are all in unique position to perform and coordinate certain tasks and it's up to you to act as the driving force to stay off the Red Sky's assault and find the time and ENERGY to survive.
ENERGY
ENERGY is what you need to win. Energy is represented as this:

You always need at least one energy to keep your colony up and functioning but you need 9 energy in order to fire the Star Gazer cannon ONCE. You will need to build up energy quickly before the Red Sky can recover and hit it multiple times before it dies for good.
Your tasks should be all aimed ultimately at getting you energy or keeping you alive and prepared long enough to get energy. You defacto get one energy 1 point a week in real time.
OOC
In essence this is a normal RP with the characters acting as the driving force. You all have one goal and that goal is to survive and defeat the Red Sky which is done via one way only. Of course, there is nothing stopping you battling for political dominance in this new settlement for petty power in your quest to start anew.
There are three segments to each part of the game: The petition is where you are in the base and propose a task or idea you wish to utilize. You will need people and the only person who can give people as a resource is the captain...but as the RP goes on everyone will get supporters as a covert - pm'd- resource of people...but only if you keep proposing tasks and ideas. With these supporters you slowly can do more without the captains input.
Second segment is the task itself. There may be multiple task going on at the same time but they may not end at the same time and at the end of each post I will inform you how much in world time it took. These task can range from something simple as "Taking a team to map the area" to something more complex as "Constructing a small assortment of tanks"
Tasks that can be acted out, will, but not all task will warrant a small adventure and I will give players a day or two to RP the middle process before I announce it has been done and how long in world it took.
Third segment is the conclusion with me announcing how long it took, resource it cost and ultimately what you gained from it as well as the populaces reaction to the task at hand. If you go out to fight a bunch of alien, this will be the part where the coffins and KIA list shows up and the mood of the base has changed.
Rules
I will be expecting at least a paragraph.
Please attempt to keep most posts from passing six paragraphs. I notice that in RPs there's a bit of pressure to match other players and so I'm imposing the limit for the sake of speed. This is NOT a hard rule, more of a guide line.
You got to be ok with your characters dying and sometimes due to unfair circumstances. You are in a hostile world and sometimes you will get caught in an acid rain storm or something while miles away from the base. Combat will also produce several instances where it's impossible to not get hit despite your best efforts.
The usual rules: Don't god mod, don't start shit, don't detail graphic sex with your fursona in front of the mess hall and so on.
This is going to be the deal breaker for many: Post once every two days. For many people this will annoy them because they are writing first and playing second and if they don't have time to produce a high quality post in terms of writing they get disheartened but this is intended to be a RP game first and writing second. I also notice that, frankly, longer times do not produce better written material for most people. What tend to happen is that people feel pressured to procrastinate and utilize their time limit to the max because they don't want to be the one person producing "under" the quality they perceive others to be putting out as.
Disagree with me on that last rule, I know for some they can make that work but they are better forum DMs than me and this anomaly of forum behaviour I noticed has ended a lot of campaigns, both my own and one I've watched or participated in as a player.

Appearance

Two legs, two arms, one head, that's where OSTA likeness ends with humanity. The rest of him is made of diamond and everything about him is nothing short of perfect shapes, a collection of abstract ideals that formulate a total whole, as if some art student begun a sketching the base for a person but realized that nothing could surprass the seemingly perfect circles, triangles and squares, so left it forever unfinished. A circle makes OTSA head, a triangle makes his body with another for his waist, rectangles make his arms and legs.
When in darkness OTSA appears as still shinning jewels although his features become totally inanimate and mundane with exception to the internal light. When in light a swirling mixture of prismatic rays will bend, curve and formulate and then shift into many different beautiful faces of men, women and even animals over time. When OTSA wishes to interact with something he can formulate prismatic rays out of the stubs of his wrists that act as fingers.
He refuses to wear clothes under any circumstance although may try the odd smaller trinket or item if it is exceptionally beautiful.
Personality
Naïve and unaware of the human world. In OTSA day he was a perfect being among a nearly empty world and so has almost no concept of any human problems or complications. He has no understanding of rule of law, only consequence, he has no concept of rights, only dignity. He is the naked jungle dweller of the gods. Unrestrained, uninterested in contradictions and other's concerns but unlike that man he is a god, there go perfect, he knows what it is to be ideal and have an ideal life on earth. He knows not hunger, not pain, not sickness and so he never had to compromise to avoid or account for these things. Should he want it, that is good enough and his only master is himself.
He finds himself at odds with human self restrictive ideas and notions. But, despite this, OTSA is in touch with his heart and knows of love and compassion. He has a soft spot for humans and will typically help them, especially in exchange for adoration or praise. He has absolutely no sense of self doubt and when presented with his failing he will not assign to himself a flaw but instead change his expectations. In this respect he can be conceited and unwavering, not willing to give up ground, even for a simple compromise but he is also strong in his boundaries and nearly impossible to scare or bully into doing something he dosen't want to.
OSA is, however, remarkably shallow, he desire the world to be as beautiful as him and respects those who try to make it so. He is dismissive and uninterested in those that don't even try to look their best for him and should something be truly awe making he will attempt to engage in mating with it.

WEAKENED POWERS:
FATIGUE: OTSA old power still resides in him somewhat. He can fatigue a single target, making them tired, out of breath and winded for a short while-roughly 30 minutes- but may only do this one a day.
VISIONS: He can strike any who displease him with visions, abrupt, jarring sights that last for a night and day or earlier, if he decides. These visions are typically unpleasent and give a great sense of judgement and supernatural dread and anxiety. This vision do not blind the target, they still remain capable of normal activity.
WARD: OTSA can brand anyone with strange cave like images providing protective magics from certain things. He can only provide a ward on a person or a area-which affects 30 feet or a home its in- the wards always have to be something specific. While weak the wards will decrease, turn away or even seem to induce minor physical affects to those that trespass them.
For beasts and mindless things: his ward will make them avoid them if stated in said ward. Such as snakes slithering away at the sight of the warded person for a ward of snakes.
For more intangible things such as sickness or poisons: the symptoms will delayed and lessened considerably. Something would be act in effect immediately would take several minutes to slowly kick in. The ward must specify what vague type of sickness or posion - skin related-
For intents and abstracts: If someone were to enter a ward with intent to harm they will seem to breathe louder, as if panicking, alerting vigil lookouts. If it against being conned or lied to-in either specific case- the liar might seem to suffer with odd heat, sweatiness or thirst.
Wards don't stack. They can also only be applied to one thing for each ward-so you can't tattoo loads of wards onto a guy but you could put on his necklace and him-
FATHER OF MANY THINGS: OTSA can communicate with any jewel, butterflies and the occasional rare beast which has an unnatural wonder to their appearance or attitude. As he in many case is directly their father via mating with physical things-such as mountains- or their ancestors. All of these things feel a easy kinship with him and more relaxed.
This goes true for humans who seem to have a undying "light in their eyes" if they have a unusual sense of constant "spark", as well as physical attractiveness although such descendants of his human wife would be very rare.
GREATER POWERS (closer to or at old godhood)
Mysticism is the precursor to magic.
The domain over mysticism allows OTSA to implement the fulfilment of an effect should someone attempt to utilize non-standard world logic and appeasement to get it. To put it simply, invocations, chants, rituals, dance, trances, even self drugging. So long as the effects are not inherently manifest nor obvious and follow some semblance of logic and preparation he can cast a spell. This dosen't mean he can shoot fire balls nor heal someone.
The enigmatic maybe is what MYSTICSM entails. Its the bit of you that says..."oh. I put a coin in that wishing well and I found five bucks...hmmm...oddly lucky...could it be?" although his power can go slightly further depending that such a request not enter the realm of absurdity - He can...for example make a drugged up shaman have strength of a lion when wearing a lion pelt and playing one-
OTHERNESS: When nearer to his true godhood OTSA can perceive and interact with the magical. He can see spirits of the world, demons, celestials or whatever else might be there. He has no inherent sway over these forces although his divinity is respected. This allows him to communicate and potentially barter with them for certain favours if he so desired. He may even enter magical or hidden spiritual areas.
The Old father: at closer to his godhood OTSA can call forth some of his more magical, dormant or banished children to his side. These include the old golems who were born from the earth. The unicorns and the crystal stags. There are only so many left and he will have to find where they have been driven to. But he has a innate sense of how close he is to his grand children.
Brief Backstory
The common story is that nomadic man found a diamond via happenstance and in its opulence he believed that more beautiful things could exist in this world and from that the diamond hatched and OTSA was born.
Being in existence back before man even had proper speech he was painted and beckoned regularly as a being of ideals. He represented pure fancy, a world without suffering, a magical force that exceeded the issues that plagued all alive. His role was many, from granting wards of safety, to providing magical means to things and wisdom. He was a helper of man but only those that attempted to be at their best and most luxurious for him.
Many stories mark his life. It is said that he could provide the road to godhood. The story goes:
"OTSA granted mans request. He stood at dawn with his back to the sun, through his chest a rainbow formed the as the light hit him. But many failed. For no man was quick enough to reach past the clouds before the sun rose out of proper angle and dispelled the prismatic road. Falling to their deaths"
Note: many failed. Not all. But it could just be a myth. It is stated that OTSA eventually ceased this, with nothing but "Mortality has been bared from the upper spheres now and forever"
OTSA also fought many horrific beast and magical menaces that threatened humanity as he regarded them well. He also struck humanity done when offended, although rarely.
OTSA death is recorded in many ways. On old bones via runes, symbols, crude drawing in caves and still preserved cuneiform. One story states that he died because he fell in love with a beautiful deer and was later offered it head as tribute and killed himself out of despair. Others state that a king desiring his head as a gift to his love interest sent his armies to slay him and tricked him somehow. Some even say that OTSA was killed by a monster that ended in both defeat.
These myths are known only be a few intellectual circles interested in such exotic and old theological trinkets. Most of what is known is scrounged up by broken, faded and oddly preserved artefacts found through happenstance or absurd luck.
Only OTSA knows the truth of his many fables.

2050: Cancer is cured through a means of direct genetic alteration. Gene therapy is now a viable replacement to modern medicine. The world cheers in celeberation at being unleashed from the human condition. Peoples lives are dramatically extended, disease is a product of the pass and genetic faults are pretty much eradicated. There was some debate on what is a "disease" but in the end the debate was settled by numbers. There are no more autistic of genetic abnormalities anymore.
Healthy, long lived, free and a process that was akin to going to sleep and waking up whenever later. We had tamed the human body.
2055: Changes are introduced to the human body.

Think of all we can experience without those 8 hours under. Despite thorough testing prior release subjects changed report stranges symptoms years in. A creeping fatigue, hullicinations, trouble telling reality from fantasy, night terrors when wide awake, among other things. Panic breaks out, riots, deaths and despite the best attempts by gene clinics they cannot revert these symptoms even when returning their subjects to base humans.
Something went wrong. We thought we could handle everything and leaped before we looked. Now there's roughly 60 thousand people with this condition.
They call it the "Sandman Syndrome"
2062: Gene clinics become RnD stations again and old medicine practices start to take effect. The public faith in gene therapy has been shattered. The sandmen sufferers start committing suicide, murder, accidents and delusions at an increased rate. Sleepless lunatics who can strike at anytime. A special sector of the city called the "Tempoary Treatment Sector" was set up. A glorified, overly clean alotment of tiny apartments bundled together with scattered still operating gene clinics and therapy groups laced about.
How do you keep people under control who fade in and out of reality, who walk in and out of a dream state.
You formulate a ragtag of people who know what it is like, because they suffer with it too. US: Night Call Operatives.
Our story follows a set of operatives in a straught central story. There won't be a lot of free roam. This will be a simple linear overall plot maybe being supllemented with smaller ones introduced by other players or occasionally me as we go along. When the main plot is resolved we'll have an epilogue period and the RP will be finished.
Posting Time: fast. I expect posts frequently. Don't worry about coming off as a good/bad writer. You're allowed to perform under your best. Just try to make it so you character does something to move the story. If you are REALLY struggling to contribue or involve yourself to the story let me know and I'll try to do something in world to help you get more into it.
I won't demand you post 2 paragraphs every time but I would like an example of your writing in rp guild so I know you can produce 2 paragraphs min as a rule.
Syndrome: Our characters are all products of the Sandman Syndrome and will occasionally experience problems and issues resulting from it- I will alert you if it affecting you at the moment in a PM and how- sandman syndrome can strike at any point and come in many ways from fainting, to hallucinations, to delusions, tiredness or even feeling oddly sick and so on. Be alert.
Work Time and off time: The main bulk of the game will take place on the clock where you will be armed and on the job but there will be intermissions where you are all off the clock. Off the clock will primarily take place wherever the hell your characters like doing in their off time and give you a chance for some casual development or intermingling. Off time is also a period where you are most vulnerble to events or issues.
Sometimes I may throw in an office party or something whacky in off time as a little distraction.
Off time will end relatively quickly.
Danger and Death: you may die in this game or may be injured. Not taking a threat seriously will end your life. This is not a hard coregame and is meant to be casual. As long as you take some precaution and think before you leap you won't find yourself in many scenarios that can kill you off unless you do something really dumb...like stand out in the open in a gun fight.
Shopping: I plan to set up a little shop of possible items, weapons, armors and maybe other stuff in game that will expand or lose items as the plot progresses.
Prefered players: I'd like 3 to 4 players at least. All players must be operatives. Your work will focus more on detective work, therapy and sometimes combat. Your authority is limited and how you do your job will effect how other people react to you. Remember...these are angry, confused and tightly pact people here you're trying to police.
