I might actually bring back something relatively (in)famous from the past version of Fuso/Ryukyu: the FTDerp Drive. @Sigma might remember it unless I'm remembering NRPs incorrectly.

Its a normal FTL drive, just more inaccurate. Even with precise calculation, there's still a chance of you going about 100km off course, hence the name FTDerp or Derp Drive. Could say that after a navigator practiced headbanging or "got intimate" with another crew member on the computer, the ship ended up near you.

I'd say we should just roll with how Theodorable is running the game as is. I'd honestly love to see how this develops naturally rather than jumpstart interactions. Of course, Theo could place you very near my species, or maybe he already has a different spot planned for you. I dunno.

Basically, I'd love to see the space Neko Geisha try to seduce their way through negotiations with AI programs that don't have physical forms, but I'm much more partial to seeing where everyone has ended up and what's going to go down. Heck, it's very possible that the Preservers could be wiped out by angry bug people or LOOTIN' before you even have a chance to meet 'em! And I'd be okay with that.

EDIT: Though I do relish the idea of awkward conversation between the Preservers and the Neko Geishas of Space-Nippon very much.

Solution: Did you try turning your feet on and off again? Did you unplug your feet from your shoes?

Problem: I have crushing self-loathing.

It's a reference to Warhammer even though I have never played it. Normally, the phrase is "Blood for the Blood God!" and it is used by the followers of Chaos. I thought I might as well make the joke since my aliens are focused on science and you are playing as orcs from Warhammer 40k.

If you get accepted... Just note that I'm going to pretend every minute of the roleplay that your species speaks with a stereotypical German accent and that lightning flashes in the sky (or starship) every time they say the word "science." I mean that.

No wurriez, dey on'y plan on lootin' an' FITIN'! WAAAAAAAAGH!

Oi fixt it for ya, boss.
Anyone want to have some first contact with a race of sexy cat people who excel at trade, the arts, entertainment and "entertainment"?

As far as I can tell, we aren't going to be able to easily pursue first contact with each other. We can metagame slightly as we're being informed of the coordinates we're each exploring (see how the Preservers explored J2), but we do have to explore the territory between different races first.

It's very possible, for instance, that the Orx and your species will be placed on opposite sides of the map. It's also possible they'll be right beside each other. Where @Theodorable places folks is incredibly important.

Personally, I'd love to remove the metagaming effect entirely by replacing the coordinates with something else temporarily. J2 could be called "Unnamed" until I give it a designation from my species, maybe temporarily referred to as "1 South of Orox System" or something. I wouldn't mind seeing coordinates once the map goes up, though.
Actually, one more note:

If you ever want to see your players build a kingdom in a 3.5 or Pathfinder game, check out the Kingmaker adventure path. That thing is gold.
Well, I can't help you with 1., and 3. is something all DMs sacrifice unless they're working in pairs. However...

If you're not confident in worldbuilding, I'd say that if you ever try GMing again, you should look at Paizo's adventure paths for Pathfinder. They lay out whole campaigns for you to use, and if you're playing with people who haven't played that campaign before, they'll be in for a pretty good story. A lot of them are really well written, and they dabble in very different genres. You get things from Fantasy Horror to Fantasy with sci-fi elements to traditional "Let's loot the dungeon!" fantasy.

I totally understand 3., though. I love to be surprised when I play tabletop games. That's why I've always preferred to be a player in tabletop games.
5e has a lot of player-made customization from what we've seen (story, species/races, settings, etc.) imported and adapted from other systems (like pathfinder). It naturally won't have as much as 3.5/pathfinder, seeing how its not been around as long, but that should be rather given.

We've not got much experience (yet) but our impression is that character creation is easier in 5e.

It also leaves some important options up to the DM that I believe are a good change. (For instance, since "feats" don't have the same function as they did in 3.5 / Pathfinder, they're optional.)

That said, your best bet to find a Pathfinder game is the Paizo play by post forums. There's plenty of folks that still love 3.5 and Pathfinder there.

5E being popular here makes plenty of sense, though: it's the newest D&D edition, and it was specifically designed to have qualities of 2E, 3.5, and 4th. It's done a pretty good job of that while being its own game, and it's brought a lot of new players in, too.

EDIT: If you were willing to DM, you might actually get a good game going here, but you did say that's not something you're confident about doing, aye? Any reason?

Knock yourself out. We can have representatives of the same SSR. I mean, the Politburo had MANY Ukrainians, Russians, and Belarussians.

Also @DeadBeatWalking is accepted!

@Gaebrael I assume you're still working since I'm not entirely sure I can accept [REDACTED] as a background. PM me if it's a secretive sort of deal. Otherwise accepted!

Point taken. I'll participate as a Russian representative instead, then.

I've still got a few hours of class ahead of me (I start the drive home in 5 hours), but I should have time to make a post either tonight or after my class tomorrow (which ends at 9:30 a.m. Central - so I'll be home around 10:30 Central).
