They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

TFW you know what you want to happen but the words aren't cooperating. Why is plot suddenly so much harder to write?

Glad to see I'm not the only follower of Lord Cato, god of wisdom, on this most auspicious Superb Owl Sunday.

Bio

I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~

@tsukune "back then" is considerably earlier than XP. Like, pre '95, even. I remember playing computer games as a toddler. I loved Spelunx and Manhole and Amanda Stories. And Kid Pix!
@Ailyn Evensen oh gods such a good anime. <3
Right so! Firstly, the owner of the Upstairs. I know he's /crazy/ old, and Amune can't sense him or read him at all. She's not had much to do with him, but she does know him. Dunno if she knows he's the owner, might just think he's some random dude, and probably doesn't connect him with the guy that finally managed to bring her back to sanity.

Coodaudu has been around for a while. Might he have maybe run into the owner guy before? I'm thinking owner is probably the sort for enchantments (such as on the Upstairs), and glamours/mind magic -- so changing people's perceptions of things, and how things are perceived. Glamours, illusions, concealment, with a side of being able to touch their thoughts and /possibly/ dreams. Actually, if he's fey he might just be a variant of dream-eater. Dunno if Coodaudu would know the specifics, just that he's old, though. And I think maybe owner guy knows who Coodaudu is, or at least a little something from one event in the past. Might be interesting. Probably only a passing meeting, but still.

More details on owner guy is that he's ancient. Like, centuries if not millenia. And he's sick of people fighting. Maybe he did once, maybe he never did and now tries more actively to provide a sanctuary, I don't know. He doesn't often get directly involved, certainly not in fights. He'd be more a behind the scenes sort, if not someone who just gives gentle nudges in the right direction instead of trying to shape events.

Also. I kinda want the Ring or someone with loose ties to the Ring to turn up and start causing trouble at some point. The one base of operations was destroyed, but the chances of getting every last person from the organization isn't good. Maybe this dude wants revenge. Maybe he wants to complete the Ring's ultimate goals (which I should figure out in greater detail). Maybe...Iunno. I'd like to play with the idea. ^.^

And...hm. There was one other thing....Guh, I can't remember it right now. Ah well, take a gander at these two for the moment.
@TheMinorFall I'd prefer to use force to move things around instead of teleportation. She's far more combat oriented than most Seers would be, I'd think -- even if she doesn't have powers to back it up. She never wants to be unable to defend herself again, and the force style of fighting fits her well, and also allows her to get the contact for reading a foe for weaknesses. I could definitely use teleportation if we go with that, but I know some ways to totally abuse it and I dunno how well I can restrain myself. That's why I don't plan on using Sini and Lucius overmuch for this, though they are limited to within a couple yards of each other for 'porting. And yes, they can totally scale a building that way, or get passed a locked door.

Most everything Amune can do is directly tied to her Sight. Visions -- past, present, future, alternate versions of those, assessing weaknesses, "reading" an object associated with a person or event and using it to connect to that person or event...mental shielding is fairly standard, and with that it makes sense that she'd be able to lash out, though she can't make contact on her own. The only truly offensive power she'd have would be force (or teleportation, I guess?) and really it's not what causes damage, it's what you slam someone into that does the hurting. It's more of a way to control the flow of battle, which is something a Seer would excel at. Teleportation is basically a perfect defense, especially if you can see most attacks coming slightly before they hit. If I limit her to physical avoidance, then she's far more susceptible to damage. <3

OOH I had a few ideas. let me write 'em up~
@Ailyn Evensen *waves at* Heylo there! I've heard a bit about you -- all of it good. ^.^ Is that Nina in your avatar? She looks really familiar....

@CrazyShadowy@Shoryu Magami XP pro was good until an upgrade made one of my favorite games not work anymore. I have Win7 and it's solid. Win10...dear gods, Win10. T.T IT ASSAULTED MY COMPUTER! It forcibly updated me. The last day of a trip, when I had to be up at like 4am to catch a train downtown to the bus station. I'm still really angry with Microsoft.

I grew up using a Mac. There's some things they can't do -- and nowadays they're not nearly so hard to mess up as they used to be, compared to PCs -- but wow those graphics. <3 Myst on my Mac vs. on my bestie's PC was so very much better.
The child was still sobbing softly into Cecil's shirt, and didn't even notice Ethan enter the room. She flinched when he touched her back, until she recognized his voice. A high, thin wail escaped her, though mostly she was still a reasonable volume. She'd been so very scared. The Machina tried to pull away but Amuné wouldn't release him, letting him move only far enough to wrap her arms around his and press against his side. She didn't want to let go.

Amuné didn't look at all the dead people around. They were bad, they'd taken her and the others and hurt them and yelled at them and who knew what else. She wanted to leave, to get far far away from them and not come back. Nor did she look at the guard outside, lowering her head so she wouldn't actually meet his gaze. She'd not said anything since being let out of the cage, and now she finally found her voice. "Th-thank you. Cecil, Ethan...Nymira. I'm sorry, th-thank you for finding m-me and coming and letting me out..." The girl trailed off as tears closed her throat again, falling into a mumbled and shaky litany of thanks and apologies, with the occasional comment on how scared she'd been.

Wyth limped after them, glad to have his girl back and safe. She was upset but unharmed, and the upset would go away in time. With her returned to the ragtag company, he could relax at least a little. His one paw was injured, and he'd been stabbed near one of his hips, but he could still manage to hobble after them.
I could work on one now, I suppose.
@Vena Sera *hugs*
@TheMinorFall I look forward to it. <3 By the way, do you really intend on having Amune being a super powerful Seer in the end? I imagine that she's far below her potential, what with not trusting herself and needing to focus on control so much -- plus only knowing techniques directly related to her Sight, and future being what that group kept pushing her towards. They really messed her up. <3 I didn't build her as anything particularly strong compared to other Seers, but if you want her to be, that's fine. *wriggles*

I remember that I planned on letting her use force abilities -- giving things a push or a yank. Defending her mind is definitely a yes, and she can certainly do better at that. She has a little bit of indiscriminately offensive ability there, and I don't know how much she'd be able to learn. Also eventually I sorta see her learning to block herself off so people can't tell she has magic, even with the whole perception of chakra and stuff. Ziika freaked her out when he was able to tell just by looking at her. That is /not/ something she wants people able to do. Anything else I'd be flexible about.

Jareth might -- /might/ -- already exhibit some of his earth abilities. I think the whole tingling fingers is part of it, but it's always been so low key as to be unnoticeable unless you really look. He might show it a bit more strongly now, with the repeated dream indicating the start of growing into them.
The young lady let Tsitua pull her to her feet. She caught the towel he threw her, and wiped her forehead. "I have trained in both those areas, though there is always room for improvement," she commented, shaking the wrist he'd pressed to the mat. "Sight is far, far more than just the future -- and even then, it's not always accurate. What was, what might have been. What is happening now in other places. I can gain insight into others, as I did just now." Amuné used her fingers to comb her hair back from her face. "Other aspects have been harder for me. I was working on using echoes from objects, and doing so at will." She paused, considering. "I know one or two Seers that have other powers in addition to Sight, but...I've never had any luck with anything else. Maybe I'm not approaching it right. They've tried to show me, but...I can't have them in my head. I just can't." The girl's voice dropped, and her shoulders tensed. She tried so hard to act like she was in one piece, but it couldn't be further from the truth.

She watched his demonstration thoughtfully, and nodded. "I would like to learn, if someone is willing to teach me. However, none of that answers my question. You used a specific technique. I asked about countering it."

Sini kept the electricity flowing until Wolf was nothing but a charred corpse. The other staff watched, alert for mishaps, save for one. With a shimmer, the illusionist appeared next to Cain. "Your assistance was appreciated," she told him, her voice light, almost dreamy. "What's your name?"

The kami was ensuring that Wolf would stay dead. When she finished, she cut his heart from his chest and used her blades to flip it neatly over to Lucius. A silent understanding passed between the two, and the demon left the room. Sini vanished her weapons, and retrieved the mask to examine it. "A worthwhile opponent, if not one worthy of respect," she mused, before vanishing the mask as well. She too acknowledged Cain, giving him a nod. "You have our thanks." Then she, along with the other staff of the Upstairs, set to the solemn task of cleaning up after the fight. Two lives had been lost that night, both young. They would be missed.
