Trying to wrap my head around the new tools and bits of the site. Well done, Mahz.

Bio

Née 1991. I feel old already.

Been roleplaying from the age of 15, write on solo projects in my spare time. I heartily encourage interaction when it comes to writing and creative efforts. Like to think I'm an understanding but stern and solid GM when I host games, and a collaborative and creative individual. Used to draw. Write in advanced section.

While I might not be as omni-present a some of you are on RP:G, I have been a part of it since 2009-2010 (if my memory serves me right). However, I must admit that post Guildfall, my activity also dropped. Slowly getting back into things.

I attended university to acquire my master's degree in history. I already had an educational degree for history and English, and am teaching both in secondary school. Any questions? Ask.

“Yet still the blades tormented him, the ones he could never escape, the blades of the Iron Throne.”

Game of Thrones - A Song of Ice and Fire

The Regency

OOC information:

Focus of the RP is not to lose ourselves in game mechanics; instead this is a game of logic, reason and collaborative writing. Our goal is not to have an overly competitive game, but to immerse into a nice creative experience for all parties. We write a story with each other, not against each other.

Generally, players will either pick up a canon house or create their own house and roleplay with one or several members of it. This means each player is entitled to several characters per house. However, they do not all have to be members of said house by ties of blood. Instead you can use several types of characters as points of views.

Naturally there are other options in the world of aSoIaF, such as septons, hedge knights and sellswords, spies and spymasters, mercenaries and merchants from across the Narrow Sea, and many more. Additionally, as spots fill up or the need arises, players are allowed to play as more than one house or take over a fallen one.

Let me elaborate on some things stipulated above. The roleplay will kick off in 132 AC (after Aegon’s Conquest) and so a few hundred years before the events of the aSoIaF books or GoT Television Series. Westeros is recovering from a particularly bloody civil war known as the Dance of Dragons where different branches of the Targaryen dynasty squared off against one another. History’s equivalent are England’s War of the Roses between branches of the Plantagenet dynasty, York versus Lancaster. Aegon III ascended to the Iron Throne, but he is still merely a child and so regents, the small council members, and his Hand(s) rule in his stead.

There is an extensive article on the Dance of Dragons on the awoiaf website, which you can find here. It would be a very useful thing to read it in order to get an idea of where your house stood, who they fought for or if they tried to remain neutral. While this gives us a massive amount of canon, I want to emphasise that we are not tied down by it. You are allowed to change or edit names and such, as long as the general idea is still adhered to. For instance, Aegon III (a child) will still be king, most of the dragons will be dead, but the regency council will not be filled (solely) by canon characters. Most importantly we simply have to conform to one another and avoid conflicting backgrounds. In conclusion, the Regent Wars give an idea of what the climate is like: volatile politicking with a lot of power shifts. This is not a preset scenario, but that article shows, perhaps, what we can go for.

IC information:

(there have been some tweaks to canon, particularly winter's length)
The year is 132 AC. With the particularly brutal winter, which had started in 130 AC, slowly subsiding, charred Westeros can turn its efforts to recovery. Even more brutal than winter and its indiscriminate fever, the Dance of Dragons saw the death of most of the Valyrian brood. Those dragons that still remain are feral or stunted as the old knowledge of the Freehold is slowly vanishing into legend and myth.

With King Aegon II dead, Aegon the Younger was crowned as King Aegon III Targaryen at the age of twelve. Despite the hopes that the troubles were done - Aegon II's host had been defeated, the Velaryon fleet once more served the Iron Throne - the period that followed the war immediately was named "the False Dawn".

The realm faces numerous problems. The cruel winter that had begun on Maiden's Day of 130 AC was only now retreating. Much of the realm had been burned out by dragonfire - in particular, Aemond Targaryen's one-man war riding Vhagar, which had burned out most of the riverlands. Broken men and outlaws roamed the countryside in the hundreds and thousands, and public order had collapsed in many places. The ironborn, under the command of the Red Kraken - who had only nominally sided with the blacks as a pretext to attack wealthy green kingdoms - now refused to acknowledge the boy-king's commands to stop raiding.

Lord Stark and his army of childless and homeless men, unwed men, and younger sons, has marched to King's Landing with the hopes of war, adventure and plunder, and for a glorious death. The sudden death of King Aegon II has robbed them of that chance, leaving the Northmen furious. They had wanted to punish Storm's End, Casterly Rock and Oldtown for having supported Aegon over Rhaenyra, but upon his arrival, Lord Corlys Velaryon had already sent out ravens, suing for peace. But while the Sea Snake may have slithered the Realm as a whole into fragile peace, the Direwolf has taken King's Landing, intent on justice of a far more personal nature.

With the war over, a council of seven regents will be established for the young Aegon III. During this regency numerous political schemes, plots and even a few assassinations are bound to happen as the Regents and their supporters vie for political power. This is Westeros, after all.

OOC Rules and Guidelines:
  • GMs are currently the lovely Ruby and I. Feel free to contact us whenever you require assistance or information. Other GMs may be appointed as the RP progresses. Don't feed us after midnight.
  • Advanced standards; this means a common sense approach; game of logic and collaboration.
  • Character Sheets should be posted on the OOC (though they can be sent via pm as well) for approval/disapproval. Not all decisions will be made public.
  • You are assumed to be an adult by submitting a character for this game; please act like one.
  • Players playing Great Lords will have the chance to weigh in on applications for Minor Lords under their Great Lord.
  • Applications may take a few days before a decision can be made. Generally issues will be resolved over pm.
  • Players are encouraged to play typically one-on-one scenarios, large battle scenarios, cloak-and-dagger scenarios, small plots and large plots. To be creative, and to interactive with their fellow players on their own to plot is expected. Take initiative.
  • Players are allowed to play as more than one house, however preferably not in the same territory or region. It would also not be allowed if players wished to take up more than one Great House.
  • House Targaryen and some canon characters are also up for grabs.
  • Where are my dragons? There are still four living, but one is a stunted wretch and the others are feral.

I'm gonna be honest,I haven't had time to pay attention to this OOC or update my ns, I'm not sure if I should continue.

I hope you will?
Definitely interested. Few questions:

1. Characters or Houses? That is, are we going to be playing individuals or more along the lines of a nation-ish RP?

2. Canon, semi-canon or non-canon? That is, are we going to be play with the normal houses and timeline, slightly tweaked versions or a strange alternate dimension where the Ironborn aren't utter drek?

1. Both. This caters to both sorts of roleplay, though I have to say it is heavily focused on the character aspect.

2. We always stick to the canon we know. Actually, I should say we start from the canon we know and go from there. It will definitely not be where we end.

Oh god yes.
The timeframe that has always fascinated me are the the years after the settlement by the Andals (and the Rhoynar) but before the arrivals of those pesky purple eyed freaks (jk some of them were cool-I'm looking at you Aemon and Jahaerys).
The possibilities are virtually limitless as little is concrete about this massive era giving us tons of room to experiment.

Just my two pennies.

I have considered this, but I fear it might take us too far from what we know. A decentralised Westeros (more than it already is otherwise) could keep people to isolated. In addition, there is just so much unknown. I agree that it creates opportunity, but I am a bit iffy about it.
<Snipped quote by Sini>

Ok, Well to look for a place to put my empire. Fun.

Do I smell sarcasm? :o
all on the same island.

Continent*

There is a massive difference :P
Does anyone like my idea for a Empire? its not fully fleshed out yet. Also i can't find a good place on the map so if anyone knows a good sized empire of someone who has dropped out. Let me know.

Ill happily take the land from gowla. His is the Drastonian Empire. Since he's backing out, there is no reason to keep the land right?

I ASSIGN THE LANDS HERE! Respect my authority!

In all seriousness though. I think to keep Drastonia around just for a bit, and place you in an as-of-yet empty spot :) There is still loads of space.

So far your nation is looking well, I will go investigate more closely tomorrow :).

As some of you may know, we have written some lovely RP set in GRRM's setting of A Song of Ice and Fire in the past.

I would like to start another, with people old and new. Whether this would be reiteration of this one, an earlier go or something new is still up for debate. The only thing I really, really want to steer clear of is a 'contemporary' RP. I don't want to simply re-tell what's on TV or in the excellent books.

This intcheck is simply to test the waters and ask for story (and time-frame) suggestions. For those whose interest is piqued but not really have an idea of what to expect, I suggest you check out the link above so you can get an idea.

So... crack at it. Tell me what you'd like to see.
Vathcras will very likely raid, rape and pillage (not necessarily in that order) indiscriminately. It's what it does, mostly.
@DancingEagle The Ryukyu Empire is willing to take you on any day :P
Also, Ryukyu has the resources to constantly fund said pirates and bandits, even in peace.

That said, seeing as how similar Ryukyu and Oxfreight is in technology and relative power (Oxfreight has a larger navy but Ryuykyu has a larger army), should the two nations do go to war, the entirety of the eastern lands of Tannis would be medieval nuked to hell. That said, it could also result in a sort of "world war" as the nations that have close ties to one nation might fight on the side of that nation against the opposite nation.

But in the mean time, let us have tea and discuss possible trades :3

I'll likely move you around a bit on the map. But you'll be in your generally desired location.
