Not my own words, but: "Enjoy memes and have a good time online, but develop a solid sense of self-worth that is rooted in a reality that doesn't disappear when the battery charge is empty."

Just wanted to double check with you; there's no rush at all, but we have six players and I think we'll be rearing to go in the next day or two. No problem with you joining later, if you decide to.
We've got six players accepted so far; half of our maximum limit. With that said, I think it's as good a time to start the IC as any. Everyone good to go with tomorrow night or so?
<Snipped quote by Foster>

A shield with ERA plating on it would be awesome, but I don't think I'd be allowed to use that immediately.

...Would I? Since that would make the shield all the better.

Either way, I'm gonna make a change or two to my sheet once I get back. Are there tactics we should discuss? Things characters that have been preparing to go on missions together would know?

Well, you did "purchase" ERA for the FRAME, so I'm okay with that applying to the shield as well. Makes sense to me, right?
I could see shields functioning primarily to mitigate the effects of shrapnel and indirect ordnance. They could absorb the force of explosions nearby the FRAME and prevent flying debris from obstructing the operation of the machine. They probably wouldn't hold up to a direct AP autocannon round, or anything larger; anything designed specifically to penetrate armor could put a hole in a shield, and the damage could very well just pass onto the body of the FRAME itself. Glancing hits might be mitigated, and shields could provide a buffer against HE grenades, mortars and small arms fire that could hit an optic or other vital piece of kit. Shields would probably be more useful against infantry, and I imagine police FRAMEs using them in anti-riot contexts.

I added a little FAQ to the end of the first post to clarify some questions that have and may come up. All the better to keep the OOC tidy! Hope it clears up my previous ramblings.
Sister Ezheia

Armistice - East Gate - 500/500 HP

"I'm... here to join up with the caravan, Sister. I've already gained some experience within the walls. It's time for me to set out. And it's a good cause."
Ezheia was taken aback by the Aspirant's reply. Here was a fresh-faced sister of the Order, who had evidently not been blindly adherent to the leadership's stances. While it wasn't clear to Ezheia whether a "good cause" was parallel to her own beliefs, it relieved her to think she was not alone. However, she was also mildly distressed. The way Fiona had answered made it sound like she'd never been outside of the walls. If that were true, Ezheia might find herself keeping the girl out of harm's way. She hesitated, unsure of how to respond; would her honesty be misplaced if she told Fiona she aimed to save the lives of Aspirants just like her?
"You honor me with your words, Sister. It is a brave thing to do - thrusting yourself into the unknown for something you believe in. Tell me, Fiona; what do you know of the world outside of this city?"
The Decanus decided it best to play up her appearance; it would be queer to gush her own sympathies to an Aspirant and betray her reputation. A lone sister of her stature needed leadership, and Ezheia resolved to be just that. Before she could say any more, Representative Aldaran's voice broke the conversations among the group and discussed matters of the journey, overlaid with formalities. When he'd finished, he left as promptly as he'd arrived, and the party shuffled through the gates.
Ezheia brought herself close to the Aspirant's ear and hushed, "Promise me this, Fiona. You and I are the Order's sole representatives on this journey. I aim to serve as an exemplar of what it means to serve in its ranks, and implore you do the same." When Ezheia pulled back, she regarded the Aspirant with a hint of an unusually soft expression, before her features returned to their dour normality.
@Luminosity
Sorry; didn't mean to leave you hanging. I'll reply to Fiona today!
@Silverwind Blade
Hi-ho, Silver!

Welcome back, mate. With the new system, I'm aiming for a bit more player freedom; you can slap in an ECM package of your design.
You'll just have to wait and see! I'll give you a hint though; we haven't seen the last of the spec ops who made off with the HFI.

As we only have three chars in the cs tab, I'd like to wait a bit - probably till the end of the weekend - to pick up some more bodies.
@Shorticus
I'd like to see a post rate of one per few days at minimum; I don't want the RP to feel rushed, but I don't want weeks to go by with nothing happening. There's no true post order either.

The weapons are self-designed to cut myself a bit of slack, honestly, but all the FRAMEs will have been prefabricated by me. There's four you can select right now, but there will be plenty more on the table after assignments and milestones are reached in the IC. Same goes for the subsystems.
New FRAMES that appear will gradually increase in performance, so you'll feel like you're getting "beefier" the longer the RP goes on. Something to work towards, and all that.

I don't have a problem with melee weapons or shields as long as they make sense and are used realistically (within the suspension of disbelief of mechs duking it out). So things like pneumatic jackhammer-esque spikes could be cool. But big slabs of metal simply won't penetrate armor, and in most cases, you're just better off shooting a gun. You don't see Bradleys with axe-turrets anywhere, after all.

Weapon tech is comparable to modern-day, so ballistics are going to be the gold standard. Prototype energy and railguns aren't out of the possibility down the road, but that's endgame territory.
