Still need to give Pillars Of Eternity a try. But I've not been having much luck with RPG's as of late. Aside from replaying Divinity, I'd start to wonder if I was growing tired of the genre. Because MMOS/RPGS used to be my favorite genre bar none. Though I'd struggle to make that claim nowadays.

Maybe I haven't been playing the right ones?

I'm afraid most of my experience with KOTOR, was watching someone else play it. (And my ability to be interested in anything Star Wars, has been significantly diminished.)

I felt a similar pain, when I redownloaded Divinity Original Sin 2 to play with my brother. Because the internet I had was downloading its 60 GB file at 2 MB per second.

Not that I recall, actually. Maybe it was fixed late in development? Another justifiable reason it takes me so long to play most games.

Doki Doki Thoughts & Spoilers I guess.

I understand the defense of DDLC's beginning, and how its mundanity is all done on purpose. A defense that can be applied to just about anything. But its all for the sake of judging the player playing the game, and the twist's premise doesn't end up justifying itself. (Or making much sense at all really...)

So the villain character is "the one who is typically ignored in romance VN's", who the story itself ignores and gives the player no say in that, and her plan is to make you (the player) hate the other three in the cast by, in order. (So far as a single playthrough warranted.)

1. Making someone relatable and showing clear signs of depression.
2. Making someone honest and critical of your shitty poetry.
3. Making someone overly fascinated with some unique and morbid topics.

"Heightening their worst aspects" as the game puts it.

Relatable, unique, and honest. The three things to get a guy to run away from a relationship for sure? (Step 2, ??? Step 3, Profit.)

What exactly is this game's understanding of relationships? But if I don't try to consider or analyze the intentions behind the story. All I'm left with was a boring reading experience, that transparently tells you delete one file outside of the game. Clearly, the next Undertale in 'subversive' gaming.)

Note to self: Still have not played Undertale and means to, honest.

"Titan Quest" is the most boring ARPG I've ever played. (That I will remember for all the wrong reasons.)

So I had a "I remember now" moment of why I stopped this game so quickly the first time. Because this game (all about killing and looting monsters) has its "see loot on screen and have ability to pick any of it up" turned off by default. c:

So I kept hearing sounds like loot was dropping, yet the (broken) auto-pick up button wasn't doing anything. So I assumed, almost no monster in the game dropped shit for an hour or more. Before pressing "Z" and realizing I had a lot of backtracking to do. (When was the last time you ever pressed z on your keyboard while gaming?) Then after hours and hours of playtime, there was never a single unique loot drop. It felt more like a test on a player's patience, than an actual game.

I will just reinstall Grim Dawn, if I want to play an ARPG again. Cuz, my god. This must be confirmation bias, for the people who hate ARPG's and think Diablo is anywhere close to this f*cking tedious.

"Murdered: Soul Suspect" is too predictable to be engaging/worth recommending to people who like mysteries. And the 'combat'/demons were so clearly an afterthought in the development process.

"Banner Saga" really does not put its best foot forward, and I can see why everyone on my friend's list has so little time put into it.

And what's everyone else been playing? Don't leave me hanging...

Holy shit Blizzard. Way to make the developers of Lost Ark look like saints by comparison.

And in that news, I'm giving Titan Quest another try to hook me in. (Gave up absurdly quickly the first time, and I don't remember why.)

Another quick round of game reviews.

"A Story About My Uncle" has a decent, if not, sometimes unreliable set of mechanics for a first-person platformer. (That you only get halfway through the game.) So my first impression of its stunted mechanics, while foolishly using a controller, was a miserable experience.

But all its levels can be trial and error, and the story elements with ugly frogs only seem to pad out the game's short run time.

Apparently it was once free, which would've been a recommendation to try it. But alas. (Plus, it also doesn't grant you a single achievement unless you go through the gameplay multiple times. So that's a fun middle finger.)

"The Blackwell Series" (four of five of them anyway) are my kind of supernatural detective/point&click games. (In terms of how much I like its concept on paper.) But the puzzles and solutions in many cases will frequently be obscure/standard-fare adventure game nonsense. So I wanted a stronger story, that the game(s) didn't have. But I didn't mind playing them.

"Brothers - A Tale Of Two Sons" was exactly how VideogameDunkey described it. (*sees a whole row of people hanging* "Oh no, they must've beaten this whole boring ass game.") I cannot fathom who made the decision to make this game without real voice actors.

"Doki Doki Literature Club" is one of the dullest visual novel experiences I've had in a while. (But I like the song at the end.)

"Choice Of Robots" was an entertaining choose your own adventure story. With plenty of additional branching paths, that I wouldn't mind returning to at some point. Even if all of them lead to China becoming a superpower and taking over the world. Ha ha ha.

"Deponia" was a pleasant surprise for a point&click game. Because the intro song and terrible meta tutorial had me very nervous that I'd dread this comedy experience. But the childish/slapstick humor was actually pretty entertaining, most of the time. And I'd be willing to try out its sequel stories.

"Oxenfree" was an enjoyable walking simulator. (With fun character interactions, and way too many loading screens.) I'd play its sequel, when it comes out.

Petsitting gives you little to do, but play video games.

"Subsurface Circular" is a text-based adventure game, with an interesting concept and fun idea, with a lacking reason to care about its rushed conclusion.

"Limbo" is a non-puzzle puzzle platformer. (In that you'll never get stumped, because you didn't know what the game wanted you to do.) That has piss poor mechanics, serving a nothing story without character. And I hated a vast majority of the experience.

"Rusty Lake Paradise" is a decent surreal point & click game. Reminding me of games made on Newgrounds. With some fun or absolutely nonsensical 'it made sense to the developers on shrooms' puzzles, mixed in with many fairly simple ones. (And I'd be willing to play other games in the series.)

"Blasphemous" was an overall challenging experience. (Aside from many of the later boss fights, actually. Since magic helped me cheese my way to victory in several circumstances.) With a few "how was I suppose to know that" game design decisions, and bullshit platforming sections being its biggest faults. But I'd recommend this to those who like Metroidvania's. Loved its art style/atmosphere.

Especially when compared to "Ender Lilies" and how not Metroidvania it feels, and fuck this game so much. Where its nice art style was often squandered with the game's piss poor level design. (And the sounds and music were either nonexistent, or annoying as hell to listen to on a loop.) The few nice things I could say about this game, the spell variety and ability to teleport between save points given to you straight away, being among them. The spambush placement of enemies was all it had to challenge you. Aside from its bosses' three phase design of "easy for the first half of its spongy health bar, and then it will kill you in one to two hits". (Which happened for EVERY boss in the game. And it got tiresome really quick. As did the slow boring-ass cutscenes they "rewarded' you with.) Could seriously rant about what I didn't like in this game for hours. But it was the least fun I've had playing a Metroidvania to its end point.

(I also find it very telling that all terrible pieces of media tend to tear something down that came before it. So the top steam review is just knocking Hollow Knight as "not being the creator of Metroidvanias". Sure, but it's far and ahead still my favorite one.)

And on my expanding 'oh wow, I want to like this, but the game controls are kind of broken' list. "Shovel Knight" feels pretty abysmal to move around as. So I might put this game on the backburner, until I've finished more games on my Steam list.

Toontown | The Guild's #1 Stop for Cartoon Discussion

Seeing the YMS review about it being almost purely referential humor aside. My housemate is supposed to see it this weekend. (And he enjoys just about everything.) So I'll have secondhand knowledge about it soon.

But I never watched the old cartoon. So I don't have nostalgia, or a particular reason to go see it. (Though I watched Sonic 2 last month or so. (Thanks to a friend's enjoyment of the first one.) And that movie was not very good. (In fairness its target demo, seemed to be very VERY young kids.) Especially, when the internet claimed it was focused on Sonic & Pals. It wasn't.

"The Bad Guys" was a perfect representation of an average 5/10 animated movie. (With me being a bit disappointed by the internet claiming its humor was anything like "Shrek".
