Bio

My name is Ash, (they/she) I'm 29 and looking to get back into an old hobby. I've migrated a lot of my games to TTRPGs but I've missed the text based reply system. Looking to play games of all varieties. Short list of things ->

Ideas I've been thinking about:
SciFi - Androids & Emotions is interesting to me
StarWars* I am novice to medium in knowledge on canon
Fantasy Settings with interesting magic systems
Modern Day moments separated from our phones (ie: passing moments in a series of concerts, roleplay from the setting of a place only)
Solarpunk !!
90s/80s/70s
Historical Thriller/Mystery Vibes
1860s Hot Air Balloon Badassery Plotting a la The Mummy
Anything where I can play a witch/warlock where it's not an everyday/common trait
Horror? Maybe? I've only recently started likely horror with Grady Hendrix/Stephen Graham Jones

Dynamics I'd be interested in:
Best Friend/Copilot vibes, Enemies -> Friends, Friends -> Lovers, Anything -> Lifetime Rival
Family Dynamics (Siblings, Cousins, Aunts/Uncles/Niece/Nephew,)
Strangers to Friends
Group Members (Club, Job, Organization)
Rivals
Stowaway x Driver
Secret Society
Pitch me something!

Stuff that would take more effort from me but I'd be okay to attempt:
Political Intrigue
War time energy
Specific Media (I don't watch much tv/movies)

Some games/places I've played in the past and liked:
5e - College/University Magic Setting - DM
RPGateway - Romance RP set in bars in NY on NYE
Discord - StarWars - Post Order 66
Discord - Show MxM Paring
Quotev :sweats:, Weebly, Never Stop Blowing Up System

Stuff that I'm not into:
Smut* [Not on the forum obv] (would be interested if we played a game first without it and we have a convo)
Gundam
Harry Potter
Nonflexible Canon Inclusion (Must follow lore to a T)

Looking forward to hearing from ya-

Madcap's energy is stressing Jet out.

"This is for all the new heroes! Some of us might be big, strong, and awesome; some of us might be dark, unknown, and badass... but we all follow the same rules. Save the day and look GOOD doing it!"

Not because he's doing, whatever- this is. It's the veneer on top. Like snow on a rocky surface. Each jump of energy a sign of something bigger underneath. He doesn't realize just how much it makes his skin crawl until Madcap launches into a speech. When he launches his fist into the air, Jet tenses. A treat was thrown at him yesterday. What does Madcap look like under the snow- is he always this upbeat? Surely that much heat would lead to burnout quick. When he moves to put a hand on his shoulder and one on Blackstar's, he begins calculating the exact pressure it would take to snap all of Madcap's fingers on both hands.

It'd be incredibly precise, but he could do it. Probably.

"I saw that stream. Freakin'. Awesome."

Dry mouthed- he chokes out "Thanks man." Jet stifles a laugh when Madcap arm covers his eyes. If anybody looks at him funny, he raises his hands in defense. Physical comedy is definitely his favorite.

When he speaks directly to Payback and Eclipse, Jet is holding his breath. After working with the pair yesterday, he has a bit more understanding of the kind of seriousness Eclipse and Payback exude. The beeping of the vending machine relaxes him- at least Eclipse is busy.

The meal he packed is in a leftovers container, spaghetti. He tosses it in the microwave for a quick zap, observing the people around him. When the vacant energy becomes too much, he starts washing the abandoned dishes in the sink. It's something to do other than watch Madcap do crunches. If someone approaches the sink he offers a friendly question, "so what's keeping you busy these days?"

After listening to their response, he offers his own answer. "I've been at the skate rink a lot recently, they have a magic the gathering club that meets there. It's a good balance of movement and keeping my brain busy." He's likely finished the dishes, and has ended up leaning against the sink, chewing on a thumbnail.

When it's his turn, he passes Blackstar in the hall. He smiles back at her, and enters James' office. Settling into the chair in front of his desk, he waves in a greeting as James jumps right into conversation.

"How are you getting on? And I mean, it seems like to me you ran in with the wrong crowd. Came back and suddenly hit the ground running as a hero. It seems easy for you, so, I guess the question is, why do you think it feels like such an easy switch?"

All the hairs stand up on the back of his neck. Jet isn't used to someone being this direct so quickly. In all of his other jobs, he worked for young adults just trying to stop being the manager at a Burger Czar because it was one of the only places that would hire him without job experience or a place to send the his hiring paperwork. This- was intimidating. "I don't know that I'd say it's easy- I feel like I've gotten some pretty straightforward dispatches so far? But I see i like any other job? Even being a villian was kind of a job? SDN is putting a roof over my head." He leans back to listen to James' evaluation of his last two dispatches.

This office is, stifling, but James seems to mean well so he pushes through. "Pyress didn't plan that raid very well, and flying is always cool. Doing the job is obviously the priority, but when falling with style is your power, I've just had to think outside the box a bit. Blackstar was the one who came up with the Bungee thing. She's the brains, I just work here." He raises his hands up and tries to offer a light hearted chuckle at the slightly dated reference.

Jet really takes a second to look at James before he continues. "We've got quite a team here- you think you'll be our dispatcher for long?"

After wrapping up- he stands up slowly and offers James a handshake. His father's teachings, still codified somewhere in his binary. He shuts an eye with a grimace when he realizes, playing it off like he's stiff from sitting, but he makes sure to give James smile before heading out the door. Fenomaman is next, and he just gives him a nod as he passes him in the hall. Instead of going back inside the break room, he heads down to the locker room, where he passes out on a bench for a few minutes before the next set of dispatches.

Cowritten with @cosmiccowgirl - Blackstar

Jet’s a few minutes behind, and he’s a bit out of breath, so he bends over at the waist, breathing hard. “Just- a sec-” between heaves. When he’s finally recovered, he throws his trusty tennis ball up and flings it to the mark he’d calculated for safety. It’s about 20 feet below the top of his range, so it should be plenty safe. Next, he enlarges the mass of a few orbees to make them a just in case landing pad. They aren’t going to do a whole lot, but he can use the forces to maybe help in an emergency situation.

“Okay all set, take her up there,” he points to the tennis ball floating at around 480 ft above the ledge “and have her let go.” He then points down the cliff face to another ledge. “I’ll stand there, which will give us a total of about 800 ft to bungee her. My top range is 50ft for 500lbs in either direction, so we’re well within my parameters.”

He pinches his chin between his fingers, “I’ll calculate her to bounce back up to the tennis ball, so all I need you to do is catch her. If things aren’t going well, scream, and I’ll inflate the orbeez and throw my powers at keeping you both in the air until you can balance out”

“We got a plan?” He turns to look at Blackstar, for likely the first time since he started to explain. Then he looks at UltraGirl- “do you feel comfortable with this?”

“Yes! This is going to be such good footage!!” UltraGirl starts to dance a bit side to side while she confirms her gopro is attached to the front of her securely.

Blackstar nodded in agreement, giving him a thumbs-up. She was making sure to be extra conscious of the non-verbal gestures, especially since she was on camera.

Once the vlogger was prepped and ready, Alaine picked her up again – more of a toddler-carry situation that time, so it’d be easier for Ultragirl to let go and drop.

Up they went, a smooth ascent to the floating tennis ball – she wondered why he had a tennis ball on him – and Blackstar checked once more that Ultragirl was ready and cool with the idea. Then, just to make sure they were on the same page, she called down to Asteroid, “First drop!”

The vlogger let go and whooped excitedly as Blackstar let her fall, watching and waiting to see Asteroid work his magic.

When UltraGirl lets go, Asteroid feels the gravity around her intensify. He allows her to free fall, but begins to calculate the drag he’ll need to simulate the weightlessness of the bungee effect. At about halfway down, he starts to slow the gravitational forces so it doesn’t hurt her neck at the bottom. Then, he applies the force to fling her back up to Blackstar. “Incoming!” He calls up to her. He nudges Ultra girl into the window of her open arms. Slowing the impact so that it feels just like a hug when she catches her.

When they’re stable he jumps and cheers. “How about that!!”

Alaine was beaming under her mask, and she was kind of glad no one could see it. She felt like a dork for grinning so much at the flawless maneuver.

“Ohmygod AGAIN!” the vlogger practically shrieked, making Blackstar chuckle as she complied and smoothly released the other woman once more.

The second jump, he lets UltraGirl get a little farther, and go a little higher than Blackstar. But he always makes sure to calculate a safe landing in her arms.

After as many jumps as UltraGirl can stand without throwing up, he and Blackstar pass the camera back and forth in the air. Catching footage over the mountain- he uses his powers as a type of gimbal to keep the shots steady and beautiful. Over the mic, he pipes up to the rest of the dispatch team, “I got to be honest, Blackstar, this was an awesome idea. Probably the coolest thing I’ve done in a long time.” After some other chatter, he finishes with: “Seems like I’ve got a new retirement plan!”

It was pretty clear Blackstar was enjoying herself too, as even she had started laughing at some point during the bungee jumping. Ultragirl had a pretty strong stomach to do it as many times as she had – Alaine hadn’t kept count, but it was a lot – and when she finally threw in the towel she’d been more than happy to let them play around with her camera.

Alaine had fun with that too, playing around in the air between catching the gopro like a crow playing in the wind. She’d flown herself up before and used it to let out nervous energy, but she’d never really had fun like that. In fact – she wasn’t 100% sure she’d had fun at all since she’d gotten her powers. Especially not with other people.

As she took the camera for one last twirl around the top of the mountain, she couldn’t help a proud smile at Asteroid’s praise for the idea. Her face felt a little warm when she touched down, handing Ultragirl back her camera and laughing at her coworker’s retirement comment.

“I hope you mean our retirement plan?” she joked, still hovering a little above the ground as Ultragirl turned her camera around to herself, recording an outro or something with a lot of hand-gestures and enthusiastic talking. Looked like she might have a viral video on her hands. “That was the most fun I’ve had in–”

She stopped. Was being honest and saying it was the most fun she’d had in years kind of lame? She was on a comms system.

Y’know what? she thought to herself, scoffing and grinning as she finished, genuinely, “–in years, to tell ya the truth. I didn’t really think I could have fun with… y’know. This.”

She motioned to herself in an attempt to indicate her powers. Of course she’d only used one side of said powers, but hey. She felt good, and she hadn’t felt good in so long.

“So thanks for that.” Alaine glanced at Asteroid, not sure how to express the sudden overwhelming appreciation she felt as Ultragal continued to film in the background.

Jet stills at Blackstar’s comment. It lights up all the buttons on his empathy dashboard in his brain. He’s just getting knocked over by genuine people over and over today. One of her big laughs during the bungee jumps echoes in his mind- he remembers how genuine it sounded. He clears his throat and rubs the back of his head a bit awkwardly. “It was your idea- don’t forget- I just work here.” The smile creeps into the tone of his voice like a virus. “We’ll definitely have to do something like that again soon, gotta get plenty of practice before we retire.” He looks up at the tennis ball, summoning it back to his hand and tucking it away.

Alaine was starting to think this SDN thing had been a good idea after all.

When Ultragirl was ready to head down, Blackstar gave her a lift again – but not before insisting Asteroid wait for her to come back and give him a hand down too, and she made good on it after dropping the vlogger off and returning to the mountain.

As she touched down she was fiddling with the lower half of her mask, and upon both boots settling on the ground she removed it, clicking something to make it collapse in half so she could tuck it into an inner pocket of her jacket.

That done, she gave Asteroid a winning smile and extended a hand. “I’d say that was a job well vlogged, Louboutins.”

Unfortunately for everybody else, she liked giving people nicknames.

Grinning again, she asked, “Wanna stop anywhere on the way back?”

Asteroid is infected with Blackstar’s grin as they touchdown. “I’m good if you are, I’m trying to stay on James’ good side, I may have been part of the reason the team had a drug seminar yesterday. Some older knitting ladies on a mission yesterday might have given me a few puffs of their reefer.” He’s pulling the bottom of his own mask off, and a blush hides his freckles at the mention of yesterday’s embarrassment. “I still don’t know how he figured out that I did.” A grumble later, and they’re headed back to base, waiting for whatever James throws at them next.

When Loralie enters the dungeon, she's a laid back and a bit of a partier on the weekends. She partakes in drinking and the devil's lettuce to free herself from the prison she's built around emotions. Generally agreeable, she'll support you in your endeavors, but has some preconceived notions of black and white for certain rights/wrongs. That sticks around when she enters the dungeon. The gate to her grief and rage is jarred free from her at the injustice of Diane's death. She's angry. She doesn't understand why a seemingly all knowing entity would refrain from committing that atrocity against her friend. More traits to come potentially as I work it out.

Loralie's story is about discovering and processing grief, rage, and their multitudes. She starts out attempting to repair the radio tower in Harrisburg, nothings wrong with it, the crawl was getting ready to start. It was late at night, during one of her shifts. The two other night employees came down (Jack & Diane), and Sharod brought over the big tool box from the garage they both worked at. When the entrances appear, Loralie is in shock but follows her best friend Sharod into the cave. Diane wants to follow, but Jack pulls her back. Sharod grabs ahold of Diane to haul her in by her hands, but Jack has her by the ankles. At the last moment before the gate slams down locking them inside, Loralie leans forward to pull Sharod inside. This last act leaves them with the top half of Diane's body. Her organs are sawed right down the middle.

They're all registered as crawlers, but Diane's dead in moments, blue and shivering in the face.

**Are we okay with us each starting with some folks? Or are we hoping for complete solo starts? I can kill Sharod too, or separate them. I think it might be tough (not impossible) to write solo before they meet up?**

This is where you outline your vision for the character including any notable changes or differences from the regularly accepted canon. This should be a short summary that provides insight into where the character is in terms of their overall progress and development. You could also include any notable differences from the standard canon you've added to your character.

Why do you want to play this character, what is the driving motivation behind both this desire and the character themselves. What do you hope to accomplish and where do you want the character's story/stories to go? For a driving character, there should be enough of an outline present to interest other players along with specifications towards how many players you're looking to involve or available roles. For supporting characters, this should indicate either a plot you've arranged to be part of or the type of plot you're looking to be involved in. Roaming characters have the privilege of doing either or simply stating a roadmap for the character to exemplify how you'd ideally like them to move between plots.

Hop, Skip, Jump - On the way to the office

The painted red ceiling of his studio apartment stayed his beating heart when his eyes slammed open. Visions of his father's angry face are blotted out by the severe color above him. For a moment, he lies there, body crumbled up underneath a single sheet, left eye socket aching a phantom pain. His heart rate slowly falls, and he measures his breathing slowly. His cellmate, Dylan had taught him that. The ceiling was also his idea.

Jet swings his socked feet over the side of the bed, and moves to the fridge. Pulling the door open, it falls off it's hinges. Same thing, different day. The watch on his wrist nearly makes him jump out of his skin. "Fuck- I gotta get an alarm clock or something."

A tall glass of orange juice and cinnamon sugar toast later, he's zipping up his suit, and feeding the goldfish Dylan pawned off on him. Next to the medium sized aquarium with "Ducky" in it, are his meds and his mp3 player. Slipping two into his mouth, he grabs his player and slides the buds into his ears. "♩ I've been sensin' something strange ♩"

Starting down the hill from work by who knows how far, he has to take a bit of a different strategy to get there than his usual fall flying. He jumps, adding a bit of gravitational kick to his shoes, and he's leaping from one wall to the other in an alley to get to the roof. Once his feet hit the top, he leans forward into a run, leaping at the edge of the building.

One leap to another, one building to the next all the way to work. Never enough to truly exert him, but enough for a bit of a warm up on the way to the office. He times the gravitational bursts with every fourth snare hit, and it feels strangely like playing tennis. He supposes he's the ball in this case. At one point, he almost knocks some poor maintenance worker off the roof of an apartment building- "oh shit!" Then he's tumbling through the air off balance and away, so his sorry comes back to the man echoed and strained. A few blocks further and a 20 minute total commute, he lands in the parking lot. There's a bit of smashed glass in the parking lot but he hardly notices it in the first place.

Break Room - Claremont SDN

When Jet makes it up to the break room, he's shuffling through the printed reports of yesterday's missions. His MP3 player might pretty souped up, but it's definitely not good enough to receive information other than the voice channel they've programmed into it. He'd have to thank their IT guy for that.

He stumbles into the breakroom at some point after Tyler, taking notice of the two new faces. "Wow, they're really staffing Claremont up, I thought they'd leave us high and dry for awhile in moving people to the other branch. He pulls out a chair, turns it around, and sits with his arms resting on the back of it. His eyes catch on Blackstar's black on black detailed suit. "The black on black there is slick- I'm Asteroid, nice to meetcha." He gives her a bit of a head tilt and a wink, hoping for its sincerity to come through a bit better. If she's close enough, he offers a hand to shake.

"How are we all today?"

"I'm alright, gotta stop on the way home for more fish flakes for Ducky though." After it comes out he grimaces a bit, realizing just how lame it makes him sound. Perfect ammunition for a bit of bullying, but hey whatever. He has a pet gold fish, sue him.

“Sparky! I forgot to bring you back some Mamaki!”

Fenom calling Lightning Girl 'Sparky' causes him to supress a laugh that comes out more like a snort. He holds his hands up immediately to hopefully portray surrender before someone lights him on fire. "What even is Mamaki?"
Hope Lee fits the vibe! If you need me to change anything please let me know! He's got a doozy of a background story, but it's been 14 years, so he's not breaking down about it anymore- life is just life now. I think it might be neat if Lee owes somebody money - lmk if you're interested

Also used @princess's template adjustments- hope its okay if I used your template pal, like the format a lot!!

"Shit. Don't let that train leave, but whatever you do, don't let that acid leak out...."

Asteroid reaches out with his powers to feel the objects around them, what can he use as a weapon? Lots of flammable shaped objects. It's a guess really for a lot of it, but some of it is very obviously flammable. Like the gas tanker car on the reserve track beside the acid. It shifts in it's tank at him, as he manipulates the gravity of it's molecules.

He doesn't always have the opportunity to fling flammable liquid at a walking impending forest fire. So it's tempting, it really is. Especially when she opens her stupid-

"Back away, Shadowbitch! And your two friends trying to cosplay goths! Acid's ours, or else! We're running the drug game now!"

And oh how Asteroid hates Pyress in particular. He nearly pops the cap on the powder keg beside her. A heavy breath, Pyress is not worth going back to jail over. She's nimble with her flamethrower, and easily pivots around. Except, upwards towards her head, of course. He shifts on his feet taking in the scene prepping some of this orbs in his gauntlet.

"Eclipse, Asteroid, I’ve got the engine. No heist for these shit-heads,"

"Heard that. I'll drop on her from above." And then he's moving. He throws he body weight to the side, following a path very similar to Paybacks but he stops a car or two short. Flinging himself up and onto the car he searches for the best angle to knock into her with as much force as he can. From the highest point on the car, he begins to do the math for his arc. Eclipse is in Pyress's direct line of fire. His armor looks hot under her aim, and he watches as one of Eclipse's blades comes up in an attempt to strike her.

"Asteroid, ACT! NOW!"

He stops calculating and full sends his best estimate. It's not dead on, he can tell, but it'll do the job. Asteroid jumps into a double somersault like he's taking a high dive, but he's rising instead of falling. His ankles extend out at the apex of his arch, back tracing it's parabola. Then he's falling fast towards the crown of her head. Both heels make contact, and it's enough for her finger to fall off the trigger of the weapon. The red soles of his shoes maintain contact until her head bounces off the ground beside Eclipse. Then his shins ache as the rebound from the bounce of her head sends him backwards.

It's only his gravity that catches him, and when he looks down, she looks like a mess. A normal human would probably be at least concussed. he tries to ignore the crack her head makes against the ground. But she's a villain, and he's willing to bet if they don't deactivate her weapon, she'll be a problem before they know to expect it.

"We all in one piece? Eclipse- that fire was real close to ya- you good?" He looks back at Eclipse as he's blindly digging around Pyress's arms for some sort of release for the fuel valve. When his fingers catch on it, he yanks the hose off. He then zip ties her arms together behind her back, waiting for some sort of transport to pick her up.

"And not a drop spilled."
