I'll be going on a two week vacation starting tomorrow and don't know how often I'll have Internet access. Thank you for your patience. I'll try to be more regular when I get back.
"I-I guess...so," Israfil replied, though that fact was unsettling. "I-I'm...actually not feeling very well right now. I might try to find my room, unpack and get some rest before our assignment."
"Y-yes," Tera agreed, "I had always heard that such...hatred existed between Ascendeds and Wildtypes, but I had never seen it for myself." Tera hesitated for a moment then asked, "Is...is such hatred part of what makes humans human?" Tera was afraid that Blythe would answer yes. Though Tera understood that emotions were a core part of being human (she herself felt them to some degree), she felt that humans were supposed to be admirable for rising above destructive thoughts, while celebrating their positive feelings. But maybe that was just a Quantum philosophy, maybe humans reveled in hatred and destruction.
Indeed, it was not the most amazing plan, but given what they were trying to do it would most likely suffice. It might take some time, but if the girl they were looking for couldn't escape, then it would eventually succeed. Excluding, again, illusion magic.
"Got it," Adrian replied as they moved away from the checkpoint. Sure, he knew that they wanted to talk, but nonetheless he was still on alert. More in case said girl wasn't willing to talk when they asked. He much enjoyed being in one piece, and wanted to keep doing so for as long as he could.
And on they went. The trail of blood was scattered, but it provided the beginnings of a lead and a general direction. It became harder to track once she had dropped off the roof and into the inner city streets, but then it was easier to find people who had seen her. It was a promising start, when they had the time to spend, and Eponine could be grateful that so many people were willing to help out based on her status.
"Adrian," Eponine said, "relay to the other search teams that before speaking with the magical girl, they are to report their position." Her reason for this was so that if the team that found her was wiped out, the rest would know where it had happened. In fact, every team she killed would leave a trail potentially pointing out her next destination. Still, as they continued to follow leads, they saw no sign of her. Eponine hoped that none of the people they had spoken to had lied. If they had, she would have to flatten their neighborhood as an example for what happened to people harboring fugitives. If there was no dishonesty, then Eponine's search cordon should be tightening slowly, and they would all either eventually meet each other in the middle with the rogue having somehow managed to slip past; or the rogue would be discovered and a fight would most likely ensue. Eponine activated her magical girl form, pulling out her warhammer, ready to activate her 'field of absolute terror' at a moment's notice.
I'm already seeing how the lines are going to be drawn in a future civil war (if we ever get that far in this RP):
-On the side of defending the city we have Alexandra, the Nobles supporting her, Kolya and Eponine (if she betrays Maria).
-On the side fighting against the city for various reasons are Chloe, Maria, any Nobles she convinces to join her, Shadow Compact and Eponine (if she stays loyal).
And in the middle there's Violetta, who probably chooses whichever side is most likely to win.
Interesting, I wrote Eponine to be fairly easy to understand, almost mechanical and robotic even, but her position as Maria's subordinate, her worldview of absolute order, and the fact that she has a sister (who makes for a potential hostage for either side to take advantage of) makes Eponine's allegiance truly difficult to predict.
Won't lie, part of me wants Chloe to stay on the opposite side as Eponine because I think they'd make great rivals for various reasons. But another part of me thinks it'd be awesome if they pushed past their differences to fight for a common cause and became unlikely friends and this super awesome team. The fact that various circumstances exist that might lead to either option in the end is exciting.
More RPs need this kind of tension.
I know what you mean. They have opposing worldviews, but if they do form a super awesome team, we should call it 'Blunt Force Trauma", since Eponine uses hammers, and Chloe uses gauntlets.
EDIT: I also wanted to add that most of Eponine's forces are from her slums, meaning they are mostly North Africans: Moroccans, Libyans, Egyptians, and especially Algerians. They tend to keep to themselves and have preserved their culture to a certain extent, so many of them are even Muslims. Adrian is an exception, among several others, since Eponine does take ability into account. It's just that her own people are usually the ones most willing to follow her without question and with a fervent zeal even.
Alright, @VitaVitaAR, you can post your character to the OOC. I just wanted to ask, is a "point-laser rifle" a beam sniper rifle and is a "rocket rifle" like a bazooka? Also, FYI, missiles will pass right through anti-beam fields, though their guidance systems can get messed up, making them less accurate after they pass through a field.
I also just posted the cog-team leader, my character, Pharazon. I figured I had a fairly good idea what cogs everyone would be making so I wouldn't be stepping on any toes with my cog. Now we're just waiting on Rin's character.
I also let the one person on the waitlist join, though they have not replied yet. If they do end up joining, we'll have to wait on their character as well.
Name: Lieutenant Commander Pharazon CXS (pronounced Chess) Appearance: Pharazon is tall and thin, and in fact, doesn't actually look very strong. Pharazon has chosen a non-gendered, androgynous physical appearance, and prefers non-gendered pronouns such as 'they' and 'them', but is fine if people refer to them as 'he' or 'she'. They have short, green hair, and serious, green eyes. Their face is usually expressionless, with a touch of amused curiosity
Age: 20. Looks about 20 Race: Quantum Citizenship: Horizon Personality: Pharazon is one of those Quantums who has chosen to break away from supposed 'human limitations'. This is first most apparent in their choice of gender expression. It is also apparent in their choice to keep their emotions in check, despite still being subject to them. Pharazon idolizes the ideal of what a Quantum could become, the 'perfect machine'. Pharazon is all about performing tasks, and following orders. Therefore a few things bother Pharazon greatly: though Pharazon sees racism as something beneath them, they have difficulty dealing with things that they assume to be unpredictable and prone to irrationality, that is to say, humans. While Pharazon does not hate humans, Pharazon is afraid of working with them for fear of losing control of the task at hand. Pharazon also seeks new knowledge and information, yet processes information very slowly. They therefore consume information through very traditionally human means, for example, reading and looking stuff up, instead of downloading it into their mind directly. Part of this need for knowledge also manifests as a desire to interact with humans, despite Pharazon's reluctance. Pharazon can be a bit blunt and forward, especially when a task needs doing. They may occasionally falter when it comes to being tactful. Pharazon has the unfortunate penchant for not speaking their mind when they should, and for silently shouldering burdens unnecessarily History: Pharazon was created with an adult mind, and given free reign to choose their own future. Living in a Horizon that was well into its recovery from the Race Wars decades and decades ago, things were relatively peaceful within the core star systems, some might even say luxurious. Pharazon was faced with the philosophical questions that so often accompanied comfort, luxury, security and opportunity. Pharazon didn't know what they wanted to do with themselves, until one day they came across the philosophy of the 'perfect machine'. Pharazon found their calling, and spent their time disciplining themselves in the ways of the 'perfect machine'. Part of the philosophy, however, stressed obedience and service to the collective Quantum society, which was Horizon, so Pharazon joined the military. A fellow follower of the 'perfect machine' philosophy who happened to be working on a secret government project found out about Pharazon and decided to recruit them as the first cog-scan candidate. When Pharazon's personalized cog, Phalanx, was created, Pharazon spent a few years demonstrating its capabilities and performing tests. Due to Pharazon's success with Phalanx during tests, the Cadmus project moved to the next stage, and Pharazon awaited the next few cog-pilots that would be joining their team. Theme Song: (Tentative) The Deva - Rakuen Tsuihou OST
Cog: Phalanx Physical Description: The Phalanx stands tall and broad. It is slow-moving, heavy-set, and well-armored, with two massive binders attached to its shoulders that transform into smaller, remote-controlled 'dummy cogs'. It's chest mounted shotguns and use of a spear means that it engages in close-to-medium range combat. It rushes headlong into battle, drawing attention, and making sure it can survive the punishment. The use of the Hoplites adds maneuverability, offensive power, area-control, versatility, and support.
Phalanx looks like the image above, except it's shoulder guards look like the following:
These shoulder guards are called 'Hoplons' in shield form, 'Hoplites' when transformed into mechs. They are remote controlled 'dummy cogs', or 'dolls'. They are supposed to be green, like the main cog.
Tactical role: Short-to-medium range vanguard melee skirmisher Evaluation:
Cog Score: 6
Pilot Skill: 7
Mental Fortitude: 6
Obedience: 10
Weapon/Equipment/Special Systems List:
2x Beam shotguns - Mounted in chest
1x Dorus - A retractable spear. The spearhead is solid, while a medium beam nozzle runs parallel to the shaft at the base of the blade, making it like a bayonet. The Dorus is stored on the back when not in use, and is wielded with either one or both hands.
Thrusters - Enough to provide a decent (but low) amount of acceleration and propulsion. The Phalanx and detached Hoplites move faster when disconnected from each other
2x Hoplons/Hoplites - Mounted on shoulder when not transformed
1x Dorus per Hoplite - The Dori can be deployed in Hoplon mode, giving the Phalanx two hidden spears/beams to attack with
Wishlist:
The two front shoulder binders remain as non-transforming guards, while the two rear shoulder binders are the same Hoplon/Hoplites
4x Beam shotguns - Mounted in chest
3x Dori - 1 stored on back when not in use, 2 hidden in forward binders
2x Anti-beam field projectors - In forward binders
2 Hidden arms - In forward binders. Used for wielding the hidden Dori
20 Scatter missiles - 10 stored in each forward binder. They are imprecise, and often travel randomly
Thrusters - Enough to provide a decent (but low) amount of acceleration and propulsion. The Phalanx and detached Hoplites move faster when disconnected from each other
2x Hoplons/Hoplites - Mounted on rear shoulder when not transformed
Israfil felt a little bad that he left Mike outside by himself, but a part of him didn't want to leave. But the more he sat inside the more he realized that some strange feeling was keeping him there, and the uncanny realization made him want to do the opposite, which is get out. The hatch opened, and Israfil hurriedly made his way out, not realizing that a cold sweat had beaded on his forehead and that he was shaking slightly and breathing a little faster. "O-on second thought, maybe I shouldn't be inside unless I've been ordered to," Israfil said, more to explain away his own sudden discomfort than anything else.
Tera returned Blythe's greeting, trying not to be too pushy. Still, she wanted to at least make a positive impression so she added, "I look forward to working with you, and making this team the best it can be."
