A few days passed. The fleet located another group of ships smuggling supplies to the insurgents in the region. The smugglers retreated into an asteroid cluster so the Ascendancy fleet pursued. orders were issued to have the cogs launch as their maneuverability would be advantageous in this terrain.

"Alright, we're breaking up into two teams," Maya ordered, "Claire, Solomon, you're with me; Blythe, Tera, Israfil, you're with Sion."

The teams launched. Maya led her team, going from asteroid to asteroid, staying out of sight of the enemy ships; Sion did likewise, but from another angle.
"Hey, Shizuka, I feel like I've seen you somewhere else. What else do you do besides work here?" Al suddenly asked the dark haired waitress, trying to make some small talk.

His blue eyes flew up to her, full of curiosity. He was fairly sure he'd seen her at school, but he didn't want to assume. For all he knew, he might just be mistaking her for someone else.

"Also, this espresso isn't half bad. I usually drink tea though. It's what helps me relax." he inquired.

"I'm a veterinary science student at Shine City Academy," Shizuka replied, "I'm also a teaching assistant for Dr. Matsuoka in Biology. I'm glad you're enjoying the coffee. I'm also a tea person myself; we do serve tea here, maybe you can try some next time you come." Shizuka added that last bit since part of her job is encouraging customers to return.

"Welcome to the Shining Kettle," Shizuka greeted as Amity twirled into the cafe and sat at a table near Alban's. Soon after, Copen also entered, Shizuka greeted him in the same manner, but when he ordered his coffee, winked at her, and proceeded to run his fingers into Amity's hair, Shizuka was at a slight loss for words. Then Amity ordered her extravagant drink, making Shizuka thankful that she didn't have to make the coffee. "I-I'll have your orders out soon," Shizuka said as she excused herself from Amity and Copen. After handing the order to the barista, Shizuka took a quick breather in the back near the kitchen to text Nick a reply, "I'm worried that I might have offended you in some way; after we parted last time, you seemed unhappy. I just want to clear things up." Shizuka wondered if he was alright, having no idea the situation that Nick was in.

"Hehe, business is good today," the barista behind the counter chuckled to no one in particular as he began preparing the coffees that Copen and Amity had ordered.

Shizuka soon returned to the front and brought Amity and Copen their coffees.

Galactic History Briefing

The Empire of Humanity stretches across the galaxy. Earth is but a distant and nostalgic memory. It came as something of a surprise to the humans that in this vast galaxy, they had been the first to achieve faster-than-light travel, they had been the first to colonize other planets and systems. They encountered many different species of intelligent aliens all of whom were technologically behind the Empire of Humanity. However, having overcome their violent history of colonial tendencies, The Empire of Humanity extended a helping hand, paving the way for the other species to develop quickly and peacefully. It was a golden age for the galaxy, an age of prosperity, trade, learning, and pioneering. But there was some resistance, as intelligent life pushed into the void, the void pushed back. At first it was thought to be simply part of the difficulty of space travel and space colonization, but the situation escalated with the discovery of the Skrarl, a race of murderous insectoids intent on destroying human outposts. Then the Omegans appeared, a race of artificially intelligent robots, and the Annu, strange otherworldly energy beings. What little communication has been made by the Skrarl, Omegans, and Annu came in the form of threats and ultimatums, and made reference to the Deep Space Dwellers, what could only be considered the 'gods' of these hostile races. Then the unthinkable happened, a cluster of human systems fell silent, and when communications were reestablished, the local government had been overthrown and replaced with a bloodthirsty and fanatical cult, an indoctrinated pseudo-nation that called itself the "Pathfinders", worshippers of a Dweller known as The Seeker. Their iron-fisted dominion wreaked terror on the local population, and it is from this terrorized population that they recruited, carrying out horrible experiments and brainwashing techniques to created soldiers and weapons with which they waged civil war against the rest of the Human Empire.
The Deep Space Dwellers

The Deep Space Dwellers are eldritch beings of immense power and even greater malice. Together they number twelve and conspire to eliminate or subjugate all intelligent life in the galaxy. Very little is known about them, though some data has been collected from the mad ramblings of a captured Pathfinder.

  • Capricorn - Shpenthis, The Amalgam
  • Aquarius - Lavtannoth, The Endless Ocean
  • Pisces - Shreel, The Primordial
  • Aries - Brangog, The Twisted

  • Taurus - Granzazel, The Behemoth.
  • Gemini - Simyanaymis, The Self and The Other.
  • Cancer - Kraxiel, The Vice.
  • Leo - Raumphenth, The Devourer.

  • Virgo - Annuiyntar, The Untouchable. Lord of the Annu
  • Libra - Omega Mammon, The Judgment. Lord of the Omegans
  • Scorpio - Skrarlaphim, The Swarm. Lord of the Skrarl
  • Sagittarius - Halgdurion, The Seeker. Lord of the Pathfinders

In their galactic expansion, humans had noticed that the slow process of evolution was beginning to show its effects on them in the form of 'psychics', those who could manipulate nature with their minds. While humans had only begun to tap into this potential, the races allied to the Dwellers possessed incredible psychic power akin to mythological descriptions of magic. It is thus hypothesized that the Dwellers are themselves incredibly adept psychic beings and that they impart their power upon their followers. In order to hope to combat this psychic threat, Humanity began the Stella Arcana Project.
The Stella Arcana Project

Desperate to stop inevitable extinction of all life in the galaxy at the hands of the Dwellers, Humanity resorted to what they hoped would be mankind's last chance against the horrors of space, The Stella Arcana Project. While military forces staved off the Skrarl, Omegan, Annu, and Pathfinder forces, they were simply buying time to allow the Stella Arcana Project to finish. The project recruited young children from all walks of life, though some experimental subjects were specifically bred and engineered. The subjects were selected for many traits and qualities though high psychic potential was key among these. Intense training, mental conditioning and cybernetic enhancements would make these children, when they matured, into the ultimate soldiers, capable of piloting the ultimate weapons humanity could devise, the Arcana Frames, mobile weapons that drew their power from the psychic abilities of their pilots. However, an attack by the Pathfinders on the secret research facility ended the Project prematurely. Six subjects survived the attack, entered the Arcana Frames that had been customized to their personal preferences and fought back successfully. With the researchers and command personnel dead, the six subjects boarded the carrier intended to take them and their frames into battle. Fortunately, the carrier, called the Arcana Fantasia, was equipped with an artificial intelligence maintenance software named Stella.

This story is of the survivors of the Stella Arcana Project and their struggle to fulfill their mission, to do what they were made for, to defeat the Deep Space Dwellers.

As Harin, Gil, and Elizabeth ate, Reas wandered by, having left Freya at the inn. Reas noticed that Elizabeth had a basket of herbs and knew she had been picking them. Reas came over, seeing this as an opportunity to learn more about medicine. Reas curtly nodded at the men in greeting and walked over the Elizabeth and looked in her basket. "Where did you pick these?" ze asked.

"Reas is shy, as usual," Harin explained.

Meanwhile, in the small clearing outside the entrance of the mine, Balio and Sunder had decided to take their lunch break as well. Sunder kept looking out into the woods, hoping to catch a glimpse of Eline.
I'm thinking of timeskipping to the next mission, unless you want to do more on the ship.
"Sorry," Maya apologized, "You're right, it's actually a pretty high-performance machine." After that, Maya dismissed Claire.
Gil looked over at Elizabeth. He and his father had an agreement with Elizabeth and Eline not to chop down too many trees from the forest as Elizabeth collected precious herbs there and Eline hunted there. Gill took a deep swig from his canteen and pulled out a box of sandwiches. "Want some?" Harin offered to Illithor and Elizabeth.

hey nick texted shizuka back just so you know

Yeah, sorry, I thought it would be rude to have her check her phone in the middle of serving a patron. I'll have her reply in my next post.
Harin and Gil, who were laying the foundation for Illithor's new house nearby saw Illithor and Elizabeth and decided to take a break, coming to the riverside to join in on the conversation.

"Hey Illithor, Elizabeth," the two greeted. "I see you got a net," Harin stated, "Maybe I'll build you a trough to hold your catch. Oh, and you'll probably need barrels and salt to preserve the ones you don't sell fresh."

"Our mines have ores, but not salt, we buy it from the neighboring towns, so you'll find salt at Emtardas'," Gil added.
