Some of them. Others are for research. Some navis want to keep them as pets.

That sounds reasonable. A lot of viruses try to destroy the net, but there those that don't as well.

Originally they were for a select amount of people who were chosen to help our world, but now we are able to create them for others as a personal ride to get to our world, it might be different since you are already a digital being though.
