Meruin grimaced at the sudden influx of heat. The fact that he had been able to block the spell directed towards him was hardly a surprise, but it was still disappointing. She was a bit pleased that she'd managed to hurt him, however - it also proved that in the grand scheme of things, she could. As the plates of lava rose around her, Meruin acted quickly. Drawing runes of protection on her arms using her own blood, Meruin barreled through the falling molten earth, using her arms to shield her. She hissed slightly as she felt a bit of heat bite into her feet, and looked down to see her boots melted.
She jumped up and murmered a levitating spell, all the while drawing more runes on her arms. Eventually, her arms looked like the rolled up page of a book, and glowed like a torch. Meruin was also steadily losing more blood, evidenced by the rapid dripping of it into the ground below.
Meruin pointed a hand towards her opponent once more, the runes glowing on her more intensely.
Fire
Once again, a ball of fire shot towards the hooded man, but this time, its size and the intensity of its heat were almost tripled. The ball of heat coming towards him was nothing compared to earlier, as the ground beneath it turned black and cracked from dryness.
The void Kieran stood in connected to a starry pathway, before being bathed in blinding light. As the light
subsided, the shape of an old colliseum manifested, and Kieran stood on one side. On the other end, stood Sol. At it's very center sat a large, hulking skeleton, that held a radiant shield that shone like the sun in its right hand. He looked at Kieran with empty sockets, and nodded.
"And now, your opponent has arrived, Mr. Windblade." His hollow, echoing baritone was audible from both sides of the stone arena, despite his mouth not moving once. "The rules are quite simple: first to die, first to surrender, first to pass out, loses. You each have a time limit of twenty minutes to score a victory, and should you fail to do so, this fight will be recorded as a loss for both of you, before even entering the school."
The Skeleton clunked towards a rising throne at the side of the arena, and settled there accompanied by the sound of clanking bones. Rising from the dirt, rotting bones chattered and clanked, mimicking the roaring din of an excited crowd.
"Now, if there are no more questions: BEGIN"
Right above the Skeleton's shoulder, a small flash of light erupted. As the light died down, Fo the fairy settled on top of the Skeletons shoulder, before leaning on its head, looking relaxed. She whispered something to it, though what she said was drowned out by the roar of the lively undead crowd.
The void shaped and bent, connecting the darkness the held Agatha and Azrael. From the dark, countless, large, obsidian spires and columns rose, their purple hue glinting malevolently in the darkness. As the columns rose, Agatha and Azrael rose with them, until the pillars they stood on took them eight meters into the air.
Far below, where they once stood, the wailing sounds of tortured souls echoed. The the depths were dark and murky, with a little bit of concentration, one could make out the dark, grasping hands that tried relentlessly to scale the pillars. Their eyes shone with red tints in the darkness, and interposed with the pained moans was unrepentant and incessant laughter.
In between Azrael and Agatha floated a hooded figure, coated in the same darkness that damned the abyss beneath them. In its right hand, it held an hourglass, in its left hand, a telescope. From a the darkness of its hood, its voice came, chilling and merciless.
Fight . . . Death, Forfeit, Blackout, Victory. Fall . . . he gestured to the pit below. Both . . . Lost. He turned the hour glass, and the purple sand began sliding down, filling the bottom. 108 000* grains of sand . . . Both . . . Lose *30 minutes
The Silver Titan moaned in pain as Aleksandra's fist smashed into its hand, and quickly withdrew it. Its rage subsiding, it was slowly backing away from Aleksandra, judging her, its eyes not betraying its thoughts. In the meantime, the Golden Titan seemed to have realized that it would get nothing done if it simply stood there, and began striding towards Aleksandra, its fist raised up menacingly.
The bartender gave Ryan a scrutinizing glare, before leaning back and nodding. "I'll serve alcohol, but you're not getting anything above five percent," she declared, her tone making it apparent that there was no room to argue. "Maybe nexy year, Mr. Ryan."
The lady closed her eyes and gripped her palm closed, before flicking it open, palm facing upwards. A wide glass of foaming yellow drink sprung out from it at the same time. With a flourish, she slid it towards Ryan from across the table. "Beer for the young'un," she said, turning towards Agni. "And you?"
Seeing the look on Agni's face, Ms. Bartender flicked her hand again, and this time, a bottle of wine appeared in her hand. She skipped towards him with a thin wineglass in hand, and once she was in front of him, poured the contents of the bottle and offered it to Agni. "Listen, don't think too hard on what the Tenants - those are the beings living in the Labryinth, if you're unaware - tell you. They mean well, but they're lessons are often hard to digest by students. Don't stress out over it, but don't dismiss them either. They were your proctors for a reason."
Karma and Delia ate in silence a few moments after King Lucian's announcement, neither finding much to talk about that they didn't mutually understand anyway. The stark contrast in the way they ate was a little jarring, seeing as it was just them on the table - with father and mothers already proceeding to their quarters within the castle - and served to highlight their differences all the more. Though both of them ate in a manner that was almost completely silent, the way they went about it differed.
Delia ate with precise, controlled, and graceful movements, each hand digging seamlessly into the next meal with almost excessive swiftness; in contrast, Karma was eating in a way that was more akin to how a soldier rushed through their food during mess hours. He ate quickly, hurriedly, and yet, cleanly, without so much as a drop of food, and with almost frightening efficiency. In no time at all, the two had finished their meal, and stood up to follow their parents into retiring to their rooms. Delia paused for a moment, then raised her hand as a signal to stop.
"What is it, Delia?" questioned Karma, perturbed by the sudden pause. Delia didn't respond, instead leaving her eyes trained on a table ahead of them. "Ah . . . "
Understanding her intentions without so much as a word, Karma nodded and Delia proceeded towards the subject of her interest. In a few strides they had reached a table occupied by two. They were people they knew well from the reports, and in fact, Delia had probably done more research on them than she had done on any other nation present.
After all, it was only natural that you would want to know about your would-be husband.
Stopping in front of Akoni Kelekolio, prince of Hawilunia, Delia gave an elegant curtsy and favored them with an undeniably lovely smile.
"Honorable greetings, Queen Kalena and Prince Akoni of the noble house of Kelekolio, rulers of the lands of Hawilunia. This one Delia Oblitus-Veren is pleased to meet your acquaintance," said Delia with a flourish, her soft voice still managing to clearly convey the depth of her greeting, and with a poise that most would be hard pressed to match. Such was her traditional style of greeting royalty - most preferred it to be that way, and even if not, at the very least it left a good impression. The right to speak casually to royalty was something only they were allowed to give, after all.
Delia's eyes flickered and went up to meet Akoni's own. Staring straight at him, the princess of an empire gave him a nod and another smile.
Karma, meanwhile, gave his own greeting of a sorts. "Ah, hey there, your highness. I'm Karma Kennen, a friend to the royal house. You and your son are looking quite nice, if I do say so myself."
Like Akoni, Karma hated wearing suits, and had only agreed to wearing this one because it was the stipulation that Delia gave if he was to be allowed to escort her around. Had he had his way, he'd be looking much like Akoni did, much less formal. ch, much less formal.
Interested in signing up for this once again!; I kinda lost interest because the amount of people lessened so the time between my responses thinned out, which was bad during that time - I was kinda busy, so I was relying on that small wait between posts to give me breathing space. Thankfully, I've got more time on my hands now, so that shouldn't be a problem anymore :)
Din gave a stiff nod. "Thank you," he replied succinctly, before he shook his head. "All tests are tailored made for the one taking them. In any case, you will have to prepare yourself for battle. Don't forget what you learned here: you must keep the spiral going, even if it means battle." The transformed Din paused and considered Agatha's other questions. "As for magic, in truth, I know little about it - magic is the breaker of providence, and the loophole around the laws of the world. I, who am part of nature cannot comprehend magic so well. You will have to wait for your lessons.
With a smirk, Din opened the door to the next step of Agatha's exam: "As for whether or not you can see me again; who knows? The Labyrinth is always open to you, but where you end up . . . well, it's a labyrinth for a reason."
Din gestured to the door, a stern expression on his 'face'. "Now go, Mr. Arcana's already finished his exam. The moment you arrive past those doors, prepare for your duel to begin."
Fo stared at him for a minute, before breaking into a big, bright grin. "Well well well, it has manners after all . . ." with a chuckle, the small fairy flew towards Kieran and patted his nose. "You may be an Eldritch in spirit, but keep in mind, your body is human. We know that you want to be free, but we advise that you take your time with that endeavor. Enjoy being human for a while."
Fo floated towards the door, placing a hand on both sides, and at once, the door glowed and thrust open. "Moreover, as a human, don't forget that you can ask for help. It comes with being the weak creatures you are. If force or trickery or power can do nothing, then maybe you should simply ask, and when the time comes that you will begin again to look for someone who can free you, remember this exam."
Fo floated to the side, leaving the path to the door open for Kieran. "Now go, your opponents been waiting for quite some time now," she said, before adding with a smile: "And for what it's worth, good luck out there."
In response to Agni's words, Cruz was immediately encrusted in a case made of sand, slowly being pertrified. Then, with utmost silence, the shell broke, and Cruz crumbled into dust.
He has been returned hence. Know that you have condemned that world to its fate - as it should be.
You and your friends are strangers here, yet, still you exist. If you are to remain here, live not as saviors from a different time, but as one who lives simply because he does.
This post is an extension of MagusDreams, and connects with all the other finished examinees.
And with those last words echoing in Agni's, the world around him twisted, and he found himself standing in a nice looking lounge, with a bar, table games, and several large screen televisions. Around him were other students that completed their exams. From a door behind the bar, a long haired brunette stepped out with a yawn. Said brunette had her hair tied in a tail, and was in a bartenders outfit.
"Oh, well, looks like some students are here already . . ." she said with a hint of surprise. "Well, welcome to the Examinee Lounge. You'll be here for awhile until you all finish. In the meantime, those big tellies over there will be displaying the duels between several students."
The Silver Titan threw it's leg towards Aleksandra with roar, kicking with rage induced strength. With Aleksandra strengthening herself, and her preparations to counter, the best she could do was halt its foot, at which point, it pounded its fist downwards in an attempt to squish her into a bloody pulp.
All the while the Golden Titan looked on, unable to decide what to do. On one hand, it knew that Aleksandra had interfered with their duel, on the other hand, they had yet to resume combat - combat that it was getting impatient for.
@Zetsuko Alright alright it's please! Just stop with the glaring >_<; In any case, the entire test was designed to mislead Kieran from the answer as much as possible. It also has lesson in there for him, but that would be spoiling :3
