The night before had been…strange. Pleasant to a point, but strange nonetheless. The Ghost Hunting felt off for him. As if he kept having to look over his shoulder, but that could easily be explained away as ghost hunting jitters. After all, he was collating with the self proclaimed world's greatest ghost hunter. That certainly didn’t help the case. From the get go he'd called Sam's evidence fake and continued to do so sparingly. Each comment, a knife between his ribs until he felt a pressure building up inside his chest that made it hard to breathe. But luckily he had managed to make it through the night without a singular panic attack during the hunt. Ralph was always good company, and Millicent was proving to be so just as well. He'd had half a mind to extend an invitation to them to make a video for his channel back home if not for…well Sam didn't want to think about that right now.

When he'd finally retired to his room, entering the lovely teal aesthetic surrounded by the naval items to help tie it all together, he simply walked slowly towards his bed, slowly stripping down until all he had left was boxers, and fell face first into the sheets. Curling up to them as he dragged them from the corners of the bed and softly cried into his pillow until he'd fallen asleep. Nothing like a good deep sob and some booze to help someone pass out for the night. That is until that blood curdling scream ripped throughout the household by where he and the other guests were staying. Sam shot out of bed, eyes wide open as his feet hit the ground for a split moment before the sheets gave way and he slipped off and came clattering to the ground. His head dipped back as he softly groaned out a “fuck” before standing up.

All he had on was his pair of socks, one rolled half-way up his calf, the other bunched down around his ankle, and his boxers that hung low enough to show more of his Adonis Belt. He quickly got up from the floor (as quickly as a groggy person in panic could anyways) and beelined it to the door where upon opening it, he saw Millicent and Ralph standing atop the staircase looking down, a strange man who Sam hadn't seen before making their way over as they yelled for Felix. Sam inched forward, door left cracked open, as he decided to peer over their shoulders and take a look at what was happening below. His face was splotched red from bedmarks, dried tears lined his cheeks, and his hair had definitely seen better days. When he saw the body at the end of the stairs, he went cold. He turned around, running down the hallway screaming ”Shit! Tony! Tony! Is there a doctor in the house! Fuck!” On his way down the hall, he spotted the equally pretentious woman Tony had seemed to admire over dinner. ”Hey, What room is Tony in? We need a doctor asap!”

Dorian had turned to look over his shoulder as he heard April screaming Danni's name. He thought perhaps more had happened in the short time, but it seemed more likely that somehow April hadn't noticed Danni (along with Vicky) had been dragged in by Sabine's sudden power use. He was trying hard not to think about why she had used her powers. Hoping it was simply an accident like his Pa had said. Danni had them all the time, even Dorian's powers leaked out when too many suppressed emotions finally came spiraling out. Especially when he got too scared. There'd been many fan edits of him accidentally phasing out of his gaming chair when he got scared in a horror game on stream. Percy had already left. Using his powers to vanish somewhere in the household as soon as he was instructed to leave. He only wished everyone would do the same. This wasn't his family's first telepathic rodeo, and while they disliked telepaths; they weren't about to harm Sabine nor let anything happen to anyone here. ”April we gotta go downstairs. T'is isn't somet'in’ we can ‘elp wit’. Let our parents ‘andle —”

In a flash so much had already happened. Vicky came back online and made her way between Sabine and Danni's Dad's, his own father having vanished with Sabine the second it appeared she was safe to touch again. What's more, he used his second mutation to do so. Normally Pa would open a portal, a mystical doorway that showed each side where it led to. But not this time. There was no telling where they went. Dorian's veins ran cold for a moment. But he had to believe Pa took Sabine somewhere safe. To a medic or telepath that could help. Maybe he saw something wrong with Beanie that James wouldn't be able to detect. He looked at April with steeled eyes. April, Downstairs.” Was all he said before phasing down the floor and into the room below. Making his way into the kitchen. He threw himself across the counter, head pressed against his folded arms as a heavy sigh escaped him. ”Pleeeeease tell me t'e shakes are ready. I need a cold one after everyt'in’ t'at just ‘appened.”

Location: Seance Room, Kingston-Gray House, New Orleans > Island M
Skills: Teleportation

They appeared atop a massive statue, almost equal in size if not larger than the Statue of Liberty. It was difficult to see the one beneath them, but the others that littered the sandy shores of this lush island were easily seen. Cryptid-like monsters decorated the landscape, all equally as large as the one they now rested on. Behind them was an elaborate Palace structure, an aura of mystery radiating around the entire island.

Max gazed out over the ocean, staring at the waves as light glittered across the sea like diamonds. The sun was hot, but the breeze from up top made it all feel better. He hadn't turned to look at Sabine just yet, more lost in a memory than anything. ”You know something? When I was about…well your age actually, I saw someone I cared deeply about almost get hurt. I got so emotional my powers went haywire and I ripped open a rift between dimensions and took us both riiiight over there.” Max pointed towards a spot roughly 300 feet away from shore out into the ocean. ”I hadn't meant to, in hindsight I never meant half of what I did. All I ever wanted to do was help, but sometimes the dice don't roll in our favour.” He turned to look over at Sabine with a smile in equal measures friendly and concerned. As if she were his own child.

Sabine had been equal measures concerned and afraid to have a conversation with Max. She fully expected all of them to hate her immediately, throw her out of their home and never want to be near her again. So when Max wanted to talk, instead she tentatively agreed. And soon they were here, in a beautiful landscape with a cool breeze. Sabine wanted to take it all in, but knew there had to be a talk first.

Max shared and Sabine felt seen, briefly. Their experiences were different. She was sure Max didn’t nearly kill his loved one like she nearly did. Still, she knew he was coming from a place of understanding, of care, and of love. She finally met his eyes and could see him looking at her, really looking at her, and she felt a well of emotion drive up her throat. She wanted nothing more than to break down, but swallowed it. ”I swear…I didn’t mean to hurt him. Or you all by extension.” Her voice wavered and wabbled.

”I know. If anyone in that household understands that it's me most of all. We never mean to hurt the ones closest to us, but it tends to happen. Never by choice, or…not always by choice. No Ms. Bassard if I had felt any inkling of ill intention back there then we'd be having a very different conversation right now.” Max could see how much she was holding back. He was never very good at that. Erik had once told him he needed to be better at it, to stop allowing his emotions to dictate his powers. His mentors had all been very unlikely people, but each one taught a valuable lesson. ”Did you know the first time I tried helping my friends, I had accidentally set an entire warehouse on fire?”

Sabine let out a breath that turned into a laugh. ”That sounds like Danni.” She smiled remembering him and how sweet he was that, even though she unintentionally hurt his father, still fought for her. ”I’m trying to be better. Trying to be better than the labels everyone puts on me, even myself. I don’t know if you heard about Arcade but I thought I was helping him too. And he confessed his crimes and is serving his sentence, but I also didn’t give him much of a choice even though I thought I had. Maybe I can’t do more than hurt people, even with the best of intentions and practice.”

Max raised an eyebrow at Sabine. ”Now that simply isn't true and you know that deep down. Even if you won't let yourself see it yet. Now call me old fashioned or whatever you kids say these days, but have you ever heard of Rogue? She was a brilliant mutant who fought underneath the name of Xavier. Her powers were complicated and tended to hurt those around her. But that didn't stop her from doing good. It took practice, yes, but also knowing when to ask for help. Or when to stop. I'm not one to emulate Emma Frost but she too is a powerful telepath who…in her own way, does good for mutant kind. Her and I may not always agree on the methods but that doesn't change anything. You, Ms. Bassard, can do incredible good without hurting others. But you're still young and figuring yourself out. A telepath should know their own mind and heart before entering another's.”

Max debated for a moment, as silence clung to the air and he let Sabine attempt to soak in the words he was speaking. Before looking slightly offset from her gaze. ”Do you know why we have such a harsh view on telepaths? Why Dorian wears what he does and Casper and James are weary of them?” He figured based on her previous reaction she'd known of it, but perhaps she never got details. Dorian and Danni weren't the best at giving those out and not for lack of trying..

”After what happened with Arcade, Dorian wanted to speak to me and was wearing the necklace. I’ll admit, seeing it and knowing he brought it with him to talk to me hurt, but I understood. But no, he never went into full detail on why he does or why you all don’t trust telepeaths.”

Max clicked his tongue before letting out a sigh. ”Yeah I figured. Though he'd probably not have all the pieces anyways. As parents we try to shield our children from the darker parts of the world. We don't want them to see all the hurt and anguish as much because they still have the freedom to live unconcerned. It's why we made the French Quarter the way that it is now. Every inch of it down to the last detail. But that's for another time. You see, back when we were younger, we had many run-ins with telepaths and telepathic type abilities. We quite literally witness the entire world get rewritten, entire personalities changed at the whim of a singular person. James was affected most of all. That was the beginning. From that point forward he became almost like a beacon to telepathic disruptions. Constantly having his own will taken away from him by telepaths. One almost caused him to kill Casper, it was…a dark time for us all. When you feel that tug inside your mind…you feel the touch of someone else moving around and changing you on a fundamental level? It leaves a scar, it's not visible and most won't understand it, but it's there. And James for all his happy go lucky self that he is, he has the most scars of us all. So you can imagine he won't be so pleased once we head back, given that the one person who did get harmed…was his husband. It'll take time for them to bounce back. Things like that tend to linger around you for a while.”

Max locked eyes with Sabine once more. ”I gave that sword to Dorian not just for fear of telepaths, but as a way to protect himself. He travels into the Astral every time he uses his ability. That place is lousy with telepathic action and a single stray or miscalculated attack could harm him or lock him out from us. What's more you're at a school full of super powered teens with the ability to control their emotions no better than they can control their powers. There's bound to be an accident and I intend to keep my boy safe.”

Sabine bit her tongue, not feeling like speaking on parental abilities since her own were so terrible at it. She honestly didn’t blame any of them for not trusting telepaths, considering the harm that was done. Especially James. She royally fucked this one up.

Still, she could recognize their experiences and their defense, especially for their own children, but what of her? Their’s wasn’t an opinion that was so unique. Plenty of people hated telepaths, for good reason or not. ”When I was younger a teacher suspected I altered a classmate’s memory causing her to have a seizure. Well, she didn’t accuse me outright of having telepathic abilities, but she strongly suspected and asked my dad, who denied it. But afterwards he chastised me anyway and my stepmother, the monster that she is, used that to get us to move to the U.S. and away from it all, away from where we buried my mom.” This was the first person she told this to. But somehow, she felt Max would understand better than the others. What was one more trauma dump?

”Ever since then they never trusted me. Always second guessing if a decision they made was theirs or if I was somehow getting them. My stepmother blamed her high shopping sprees on me even though I never touched her mind. And then I went to Avenger’s Academy and I thought it would be better and in my first week I felt casted out and untrusted, by students and staff. My point is, I get it. If I was you or James or Casper or Ben I wouldn’t trust telepaths as far as I could throw them, magically or not, but we also deal with a slew of issues. That’s no excuse to cause harm to people and I am not advocating for understanding, but perhaps a conversation is in order. I don’t mind waiting, I am sure time is needed for everyone.”

Max simply asked one question, although he figured he already knew the answer to this one. ”Are your parents flatsca- I mean, non mutants?”

”My father isn’t but I believe my mother was. I think she had the same powers as me, but I do not know for sure. My father….doesn’t like talking about her.”

”The world can seem incredibly small when the people around us are so vastly different. Would that Genosha still stood so that children like you could've been raised around more…understanding people. But trust me im no stranger to what youre talking about. Sure it's telepaths today, but before that it was mutants, before that the homosexuels, jews, the list goes on. The world cannot stand to understand things that are different so they cast a label on it and make it into something to fear. I…well, when I was still in high school, my own parents called an antimutant terrorist group on me. They tried to get me killed as soon as they discovered I had powers. I ran and hid for years, I was so afraid to be myself, to use my powers. I wished I was normal. But normal isn't what saved countless lives, it never has been. I'm sorry for all of the discrimination you've already had to face at such a young age. That alone can damage how you view yourself. But don't let those ghosts of your past haunt you now. Don't let the words of others define who you are. And from what I witnessed today, you are a remarkable young lady who simply wants to do what's right and help those who need it. You just need to practice on what you can do and find a way to help that gives all parties piece of mind. You mentioned this Arcade kid, how you wish you could've done it differently. That alone is a start, but now you must figure out how you would've done it differently.”

Sabine thought for a moment, mentally chastising herself for telling a gay man how hard she had it. No, they both suffered. One doesn’t take away from the other. ”I guess I would have given him a choice, helped him remember who he was rather than implant fake memories or alter them. Highlight his choices and let him come to terms with what he wants, good or bad. He would still face his crimes, but he would be allowed the option to change for himself. I would still use my powers to save someone else if needed, but in the situation with Arcade, everyone wanted him dead and I don’t blame them, but that’s not how things would have been healed. He needed to face the consequences.”

”So then why is it your believe he gets a choice to be good or bad when you yourself have labeled your powers as something that can only cause harm? That doesn't seem very fair to you now does it? I believe you need to allow yourself that choice as well.”

Sabine knew he was right, but something in her teenage mind told her to never fully agree with an adult, lest they think they were right. ”You sound like Dr. Whitehall.” She chuckled slightly. ”Maybe you’re right. So, what should I do next then? I feel like over-apologizing won’t help and I don’t want to make things worse.”

”I'll have a talk with James and the rest when we get back. I'll see about creating a secondary house for the night that you all can stay in if it helps things with those two. I'd hate for you to be the only one going back to a hotel tonight. As for what you should do, well…I truly have no idea kid. Apologize of course, then let me speak to them and try to explain what happened. If James can forgive me for abandoning him and joking a league of evil mutants then I think he may be able to eventually see past this.”

Sabine nodded. She knew it would take some time and effort for things to be mended, but for the first time in a bit she felt a little bit of hope. ”That sounds like a plan. I wouldn’t mind going back though if that’s what everyone felt was best. I have a feeling Leah would come with me if need be. But of course I’ll do what I have to. No, what I need to.” She looked back into Max’s eyes, fully now. ”Thank you.” She reached out, intending to give him a hug, but stopped herself. They probably were not there yet, considering. But he helped her a lot.

Max rolls his eyes and pulled Sabine in for a hug. ”We are definitely a hugging family.” He said as he held onto her for a moment until she felt it was right to let go. When he pulled away he looked at Sabine with a look of concern once more. ”Something is seriously wrong with Leah, she's never had a milkshake. How do you make it this many years into your life and never have a milkshake?” Max joked, trying to break anything possible tension that may have even lingered.

Sabine fully laughed now, tension seeping away from her. ”Oh don’t get me started on her. I had to introduce her to so many different things, it’s bonkers. She’s trying though, bless her, but sometimes it is like talking to a literal rock. I heard you were pretty good with fashion, any chance you could tackle that sandpaper head of hers?”

”I bend reality to my whim, I think I can sprinkle a little magic towards it to help with that tangled mess a bit.” Max said as he stood up, stretching a bit. ”Ready?”

Sabine quickly followed suit, taking one deep breath in and out, clearing her head and reminding herself that she was worthy of goodness and love, and nodded. ”Ready.”
With plans finalized for the most part, Millicent took the initiative and walked towards the door to Miguel’s room. ”Sam and Ralph may be together still, but it’s getting late, so let’s check their rooms.” Millicent wouldn’t want to disrespect either of them and storm into Sam’s room through their shared bathroom in case they were together.

Millicent cracked the door a bit and then chastised herself. It wasn’t like they had a curfew. So she swung the door open and went outside, assuming Miguel would follow.

As soon as she turned into the hallway, she saw two familiar figures coming in her direction. ”Well, speak of the devil and he arrives. We were hoping to find you two.”

”Wait? You were hoping to find…us?” Sam asked as he pointed to himself and then Ralph, confusion lacing every word. ”Why? W-why? I mean, we were looking for you too but…” It was then Sam had noticed Miguel was accompanying Millicent, a strange duo if he'd ever seen one. Then again Miguel was pretty eccentric and Millicents mind seemed to work in a similar fashion given her conspiracies.

”Oh, I suppose perfect timing then.” Ralph smiled and held up the EMF reader. ”We wanted to see if you wanted to join us.” He was now dressed in dark blue skinny jeans and black van shoes. He wore a light jacket over a plain white t-shirt.

Miguel’s eyes immediately narrowed in suspicion. Ralph and Sam were looking for them too? He didn’t know that Sam had been specifically referring to Millicent. Was this about dinner? His eyes then widened. Of course it was. They probably assumed Miguel had gotten food poisoning, and were worried about the food he’d given them. Rude, but understandable. But then, his eyes narrowed again as he saw that Ralph was holding up an EMF reader. What was this? Some sort of impromptu collab? He knew that commenters had been asking if he’d ever consider doing one with another YouTube ghost hunter, but the last person he’d gone ghost hunting with had been Alexei, and well… Miguel knew how that had ended. ”Why?” he asked defensively. ”Do you just want my name attached to boost views?” The thought didn’t even cross his mind that Ralph and Sam might have been going ghost hunting without filming themselves - or that the invitation was only for Millicent. ”I get it, you want the world’s greatest ghost hunter - or you want people to speculate that you can replace Alexei but…” He didn’t actually know how to end that sentence.

Millicent was happy to see the two of them, but before she could respond to the kind invitation Miguel had stepped out and…..what’s the polite word? Went batshit. Accusing Sam and Ralph of wanting to use Miguel for views. Was this how all YouTubers thought? ”Uh hey Miguel. I think they were looking for me specifically since we had a conversation about ghost hunting. I don’t even think they intend to film this, but I could be wrong. Either way, we’re all here now. Miguel and I were talking and processed some of the information we uncovered and wanted to rope the two of you in.” Millicent eyed Miguel, hoping he would cool his jets and allow the two men into their plans and not scare them off (ironic though it might be).

”Riiiiiight. Yeah sorry man, I assumed you'd retired to a night on the porcelain throne given the abrupt exit after eating two full entrées. We were just looking for Millicent, well her and Ivanna cuz who doesn't love to have a Drag Queen around? But if you two were already looking to collab with me and Ralph then I guess this squad is set.” Sams eyebrow raised at Millicent and Ralph, as if to ask ‘is this guy serious?’. Yeah, okay, his fans have pestered for a De La Muerte collab for forever but that didn't mean Sam was about to impose on a self proclaimed world's greatest ghost hunter. While the title did irk Sam a little, he mostly let it wash off his back since he didn't view himself as a ‘Ghost Hunter’ he was a Paranormal Investigator.

His attention fully locked into Millicent now, as she brought up something Sam didn't quite understand. ”What information did you uncover? What was the uh…outcome? Of said processed information. Oh and full transparency I do have some cameras I was intending to use to film with, but mostly also as a way to catch ghost orbs or activity we may miss with the naked eye.”

Miguel’s abrupt attitude surprised Ralph. He wasn’t sure what it was all about. Did his stomach still bother him? Ralph wasn’t sure. He gave Sam a slight shrug unsure how he wanted to handle it. If Miguel was going to be so snap judgement about them wanting to just have some fun Ralph was unsure if they’d even be good to go exploring with. For now he bit back on his response. He waited for Millicent to explain what they had uncovered. Ralph looked at her expectantly.

Millicent looked over to Miguel to see if she was okay in letting this information slide. Too many ears perhaps. ”Why don’t we go somewhere that isn’t so…open? The information we have is sensitive.” She also didn’t want Miguel to blow up again. ”What about my room? It’s close and it’s connected to Sam’s room in case you need to grab anything else.”

”Sounds like the best suggestion to me to be honest.” They were already standing in between Millicent and Sam's room. So it only made sense. Sam went to go open the door, his hand halfway up before he realized it was technically Millicent’s room, and although they were invited in, it'd still be rude for him to open it up himself.

Well things were about little less awkward, but there was tension still. Ralph saw Sam reach but halt the movement. He held up his hand indicating to Millicent she should go first.

Millicent took the lead and opened the door to her room, inviting the boys in. Once they were in she allowed them to get settled before she sat on the corner of her bed. ”Okay, so after I left and came back up here I ran into Miguel. We talked for a bit and found out something that connected us. I didn’t say anything to anyone but when Miguel shared I knew there was something more going on here. In my room earlier today there was a newspaper clipping.” She stood up and grabbed it and returned to her spot. ”This is close by where I live and this message was left for me.” The clipping was a report on a robbery at a magic shop. The message said ‘Don’t Worry. This Wasn’t You.”

”Miguel shared something similar, but I’ll let him detail it. Suffice to say, there’s something weird going on at this place.”

”Explains why you were acting the way you were and asking those odd questions in the lounge. Feels less conspiracy theory and more targeted. Though…I'm not exactly sure what all that means. Were you pinned for a robbery you didn't commit? Doesn't exactly feel like a good piece to blackmail someone with.” Sam had chosen to sit in the chair by the desk. Though unlike others, he sat sideways, one leg off the chair as another hung over the arm, the back of the chair facing the wall as Sam used it like an arm rest.

Miguel had fallen uncharacteristically quiet for a moment, as a feeling gripped him that had yet to visit him in France - shame. He’d been so quick to assume they were looking for him and not Millicent - so quick to dismiss them as wanting something from him. For a brief second, all of his actions hit him - the way he was using Jeanne for information, held up against the anger that had filled him when he felt for a brief moment Sam and Ralph were trying to do something similar.

He stood by the window in Millicent’s room, looking outwards, although his eyes were more focused on his own faint reflection in the glass. He didn’t recognize the person looking back at him - or rather, he did. He saw Bruno. Not Miguel.

He turned away, and looked at the group for a moment. He pulled the photograph out of his pocket. ”This is my brother Bruno’s grave. They’re asking me how to contact his ghost. Not great, chat.”

Ralph had leaned against the desk. He felt this conversations sudden shift. Blackmail. He frowned. ”Yeah. I got a photo too. One that shouldn't be here at all. It is of one of my first boyfriends and me together. It ended very badly.” Ralph looked down at the ground. He was understating it a lot.

”No, I wasn’t framed. I have been having blackouts where I wake up and I have props missing or things there that I never bought. Or I have bruises.” She kept some parts to herself. She was already opening up a lot. ”So it seems we all have secrets and we all have someone sending us these photos or messages. Except Sam, though, unless you have something to share?”

Sam simply shook his head ‘no’ before speaking up. ”Sorry, I got nothing. No photos or newspaper articles or anything of the sort. Most I got was a welcome package with a post it note attached asking me if my friends knew. Which obviously I've told no one I'd be here.” It didn't make sense though, something was missing and it wasn't from the La Lune family. Millicent’s made sense. Episodes of black out followed by strange occurrences and news worthy robberies could be blackmail to an extent. But someone's brother's grave and an ex? There was story there that definitely wasn't being shared because otherwise…how was any of this blackmail. What's more…why were they being blackmailed and not himself? After what he did…

From what Sam said it didn’t seem he was being blackmailed. If his photo hadn’t asked if his ex had forgiven him, he probably wouldn’t assume it was blackmail either. But there had been no demands. ”Doesn’t blackmail usually come with a demand of some sort? Right now someone is just telling us that they know our secrets. Not sure how Miguel’s is a secret.” Ralph still hadn't looked up from the ground. ”Mine had a note asking if he had forgiven me. It isn’t like I know. I haven’t seen him in years.” It was odd...what was the point?

Miguel knew how his was a secret.

”Shocking, Sam has no actual evidence, who could have seen this one coming,” Miguel muttered under his breath. He shouldn’t have been behaving like this - but ever since Alexei, he’d been more and more sensitive as it came to his self perception as a ghost hunter. There was a reason that he hadn’t done collabs with others - he knew they were all faking evidence, just trying to get clicks. ”Does it matter what the demand is? We know Eleanor is doing this, we know people who win this award disappear. I say we get her before we get got,” he argued. ”Also I found a secret way to get to this old ass chapel, and no one innocent has shit like that in their basement.”

Millicent pondered it a moment. Sam had a point, there was no attempt at getting anything out of them. ”No, Ralph has a point. Whoever did this, whether it’s Eleanor or another member of the family, just seems to want us to know they know our secrets. And it has to be a member of the family surely. None of us knew each other before this, right? And the family has a choice in who they nominate, but Eleanor is the one who has final say.”

She looked around her to the others, each at varying levels of energy. ”I mean, Sam’s room is just through the bathroom. If he still has the post it note he can grab it, but even then that might be what your secret is. You don’t have to share if it’s too much Sam.” She looked at him like she understood. Not everyone needed to unload it all, even in a murder house.

”Again, I am pretty much against going after someone unless I am 100% sure, so let’s investigate more before we go after anyone. It might not even be Eleanor pulling the strings.”

Sam heard Miguel muttering something, but he decided not to press on it. He was having to open up about his dead brother, and someone here was egging him on about it too. That would make anyone feel raw and emotionally unstable. If anything it made how Miguel had been acting all night make a bit more sense. He was grieving, something Sam could easily understand himself right now. ”I tossed it earlier in the bathroom. The maids cleaned it all up before we even came back to the rooms so unfortunately that note is gone. Had i known it could possibly help with a future conspiracy theory I'd have kept it closer. Sorry…”

Sam tried to think, Miguel's judgement was clearly clouded at the moment. Trying to link underground tunnels to a murder plot that didn't even exist. If there were some sort of entrance from the main house in the basement towards the Chapel outside, that only made sense. This place used to be a Monastery, they'd have some sort of system like that. That wasn't on the La Lunes, that was on its previous owners. ”I'm with Millicent on this. We need more evidence to go in if you're actually wanting to take action. So…lead the way, show us this secret tunnel and let's see if anything around can give us a clue as to what exactly is happening here.”

Ralph stood up straight. He was more interested in going to check out the basement than he was in talking about the blackmail. It didn't make much sense right now anyway. If everyone else had a note of some sort maybe if they gathered all of them they could figure it out. But again there hadn't been any demands. No indication of why they were being blackmailed. The who was more obvious like Millicent said it had to at least be someone in the family. Now it was time for Miguel to lead the way. Maybe they would find more information in the basement.

”Alright - into the secret tunnel… in the mountains…” He hummed the final part of the verse, and sighed, taking one last look at the window. And then he motioned for them all to follow him as he led them to the basement.

Millicent followed. She had hoped Sam and Ralph would be on their side instantly, but it seemed they were turned off by Miguel, and she could hardly blame them. Still, at least it appeared they understood that each of them had been given some note, some way of showing someone here knew intimate details about their lives and gathered them here. For what purpose, it was unclear. But at least they had allies.

It was a bit strange to him, when Leah seemed a little taken aback by Ben's tentacles. She herself seemed to have Non-Earth origins based off of her Aura. Her appearance, if Max had to hazard a guess, would mean she had some sort of giantess origins, a kinship to Loki of Asgard, though not entirely the same. So what caused this divide? He didn't have long to question these thoughts as his husband began a campaign in an attempt to coerce Leah into the clutches of Evil. Rolling his eyes at Ben before stopping mid step when Leah mentioned she'd never had a milkshake before. Max wasn't one to question another person's parenting skills, but what kind of monster doesn't give their child a single milkshake? Even his parents, as vile as they were, allowed him the treat. ”Never…had a milkshake? Well Ms. Jordan, you're about to experience a crash course on flavours."

Max snapped his fingers, a classic glass milkshake cup appearing next to Leah, the signature red and white straw already in it as whipped cream surrounded the straw, a cherry plopped atop it. Inside the translucent glass, a rainbow of colors, from red to purple, gradiated down as a mass of flavours now nestled within it. Every possible flavour of Milkshake was packed inside, between each layer a pallet cleanser so no two flavours would ever mix together. ”That right there, is my ‘Max-a-Millian Milkshake.’ Every flavour imaginable in a singular glass. We'll find your favourite flavour yet.” It was then that he noticed a faint yellow glow beneath his shirt. Pulling on the leather thong around his neck to reveal a medallion hidden beneath his shirt. His eyes fixated ahead, past the walls of the household where he knew James and the others resided. ”Ben-” Andy's scream cut through the house. ”Take care of Ms. Jordan, do not allow her to follow behind me.”

Max left the kitchen as quickly as possible without running. Hopefully Leah wouldn't be too panicked about his sudden disappearance. When he entered the room, he saw ghosts threatening to flicker in from Casper's powers, panic clearly in his eyes as James tried to soothe him. Three students lay motionless on the floor, one of which was Danni. He took a step towards them, ready to check and see what had happened. Had Casper somehow hurt them? Did ghosts possess them? He looked towards Andy as he made his way past. ”Thank you for calling me Andy. You did the right thing.” As Max began to approach the passed out children, his own son stepped in his way, arms out wide in an attempt to stop him.

”Perce said Sabine's powers went off before t’ey all passed out. Vicky didn't pass out until she touched Sabine. Pa…can you ‘elp em?.” Dorian stood there, impeding his father's path as if a child trying to stop his parents from seeing a mess he'd made. His arms dropped back down to his sides now that his message had been delivered. He didn't know exactly what was going on, or how Percy knew exactly. But he trusted his boyfriend. Max rustled the top of his head, and through the hair that now covered Dorian's eyes, he could see a proud smile on his father's face.

”Thanks for the heads up. Dorian, Andy, Mr. Novikov, Ms. Flynn if you're unaware of how best to help, may I ask you two to join Leah in the kitchen? I'm sure she could use some friends right now.” Max reached out into the air, an old antique necklace that looked similar to Strange's Eye of Agamotto, appeared delicately within his hands. He placed it on, opening the apparatus as his eyes began to scan the room. A soft pink color emanated from those affected into a singular tether connecting them towards Casper's mind. A singular ‘Hm.’ Escaping him. ”It appears in all the excitement, Ms. Bassard's powers had triggered and entangled those who were in physical contact with her. Detangling it will be tricky, the best and safest route would be for the children to find their own way out. It will lead to the least amount of complications that way. That or calling in a High Level telepath to help but that is a last resort. Emma Frost's services do not come cheap, and I don't mean money.”

”I could try? If I possess her and use her abilities I can try to break the mental links to save them.” Dorian chimed in as he stopped midway to the door leading out. There wasn't much else he could do unless their minds were trapped within the Astral Plane. At least there he could try to find them and lead them back out somehow. But if that was a solution then his father would've already suggested it. That or he may call him back in later to help.

Max shot his son with a leveled look. ”No possessions without consent. You know this. This isn't that dire enough of a situation to break that ruling. So, hurry on out. All of you.”

Sam was a bit indecisive towards what he wanted. A part of him wished for a refreshing drink like a Pimms Cup, but another wanted to match Ralph's “Fun” drink and order a Piña Colada. Unsure of which to do, he decided not to choose. ”I'd hate to hold you up, so to be safe could I get one Pimm's Cup and one Piña Colada, please.” Sam asked of Leon before turning his attention back towards Ralph. ”Somewhere private?” Sam asked, raising his eyebrow.

“That will be right out.” Leon said, and set to making the three drinks.

”Well,” Ralph leaned in and whispered. ”I don’t know if you want to talk about plans here.”

”Oh!” Sam replied as blush streaked across his face. ”That makes sense yeah, would also help to show you a few things before we set out. Most of it's pretty easy though.” Here he'd thought that he was asking for another round. He wouldn't have minded going again, but he did need to find this basement while he still had the chance.

Ralph leaned back and smiled. He was interested in this ghost hunting stuff. He had never done anything like it before. Leon slid the drinks across the bar to them. “Enjoy.”

”Thank you.” Ralph picked up his drink. It had several colors and had been topped with whipped cream. He took a sip through the straw and made a sound. ”Oh that is fun. Thank you again.”

”Thanks Leon, you're the man.” Sam grabbed his Piña first. Taking a sip of it as he felt the velvety smooth coolness of coconut slide down. Maybe he shouldn't be drinking so much before a hunt. But that wasn't exactly on the forefront of his mind at the moment. ”Was thinking of asking Millicent if she'd like to join us. Maybe Ivanna? I know at least Mill seemed interested in it. No idea of Ivanna would be, but man do I adore that spirited drag queen.”

Ralph considered it. He took a sip of his drink. ”Yeah. Let’s invite them both.” He didn’t know if either of them would say yes. But if they did it could make the whole thing fun. Sure he’d be losing alone time with Sam but that was okay.

If one could take a long drag of a drink like a cigarette, that was exactly what Sam had just done. The levels in the glass of his fruity island beverage quickly depleting about a quarter of the way before he exhaled to speak again. ”Bet. Maybe we can try Ivanna first then Millicent? Only because I feel like going up to someone who'd just excused themselves from us not too long ago might be weird. Then again would it be more weird to wait longer?” He took another long drink as he tried to think. His pouty eyes making contact with Ralph's. ”What do you think? Who should we approach first?”

”Uh, does it matter? Millicent. I guess.” Ralph said hurried and confused. He took another sip of his drink savoring the texture and flavor of it.

”Oh. Uh, I guess it doesn't?” Sam made a tight lipped face, looking akin to a frog (or Tom Holland anytime he's resting his face). ”Did we want to get them before or after an equipment check? Doubt my roommate would want to actually use any of the devices, she may just tag along for the experience.”

”After. But if she does, you can explain it to her.” Ralph frowned. ”Wait, you're roommates? How does that work?”

”I mean. No. But yes? I don't really know what to call it. We share a bathroom here which feels kinda roomate-y or very Dorm like to be honest. Terminology is weird tho, technically the only ‘room' we share is a bath'room’ “

”Bathroom mate?” Ralph offered. ”Should we head up then?”

”Yeah, let's make our way over.” Sam chugged the rest of his Colada before picking up the Pimms Cup and nodding for Ralph to lead the way out of the bar area.

Ralph left the bar with Sam trailing him and went up the stairs to the hall of rooms. ”I forgot which room was yours.” He said stopping in front of Heliotrop, his own room.

Sam chuckled slightly as he tugged on Ralph's arm lightly. ”This way Smallville.” He led the pair towards his room, Tradewind, which was a lovely teal color with a seaside theme to it. As they made their way in, he began to take off his black button up shirt, placing it onto the desk with all the information on it before moving towards his suitcase, pulling two of them out. One which held a change of clothing for him, and another that held his equipment. He threw on a bright pink shirt that looked similar to a button up baseball jersey.

He made his way towards the shared bathroom, opening it to see it was cleaned up. Most likely by the staff. He felt bad they went to the measure of doing so, but glad that Millicent wouldn't have reason to complain now if they saw her again. He began to swap out his pants, Donald ducking it for a moment as he popped open his equipment trunk that was locked together by a pad. ”What are you interested in trying?”

”What are my options? I don’t even know where to start.” Ralph had appreciated the view of Sam he had while Sam was getting ready. It did make him want to swing by his room and change out of the formal wear.

”Well there's tech in there to talk to ghosts, see the ghosts, or simply detect the ghosts so we can start there. Talking we have a Spirit Box, noisey but useful when they decide to actual speak to us, there's also newer models that project the word onto the screen making it less noise and more clear. Seeing ghosts is tricky. Usually use a camera, night vision, or a DOTS projector but they aren't always able to appear. Finally there's detecting. EMF is the easiest one, along with a thermometer to help detect any cold spots. Could use a parabolic mic to try and hear things we may otherwise miss, tape recorders to play back after we've asked questions to see if they've answered. REM pods to detect motion or proximity, same with things like Cat Balls, really the list goes on.”

”The Spirit Box sounds interesting, but I’ll just hold the EMF. I don’t want to get over complicated my first time.” Ralph decided. He was a little overwhelmed with everything Sam had listed. He didn’t know what over half the items were. He wished he had watched more ghost hunting stuff, up till now though he had just never been interested in it.

Sam chuckled slightly as he finished getting ready. Making his way over towards Ralph before removing the EMF from the case. ”I've got a few different kinds, this one doesn't make any noise since we don't want to wake anybody.” He said as he handed the device over to Ralph. ”You turn it on right here, the lights will light up. Green is base, it means there's not much interference around, after that is yellow, orange, and red. Red is your highest tier, that's usually about a 5 and means very strong activity. You can think of this device almost like a compass. If you'reyou're looking left and there's nothing or low energy they aren't there. But if you turn right and suddenly is spikes then we're walking in the right direction.”

Ralph nodded at the explanation on how to use the EMF. It was easy. That was a relief. He turned it on. The first green light lit up, but that was all. ”Should I get into something more comfortable before we go? I don’t know if I want to traipse about in dress shoes.”

”Given our two destinations? I'd say so. The basement may not be too bad but the charred chapel may prove to be a bit more uneven than you'd like to do in dress shoes. I always try and make sure I'm comfortable when hunting. I could meet you after? Try and snag Millicent while you're changing or something.”

”Sounds good.” He turned the EMF reader off. He waved and headed back to his room to change really quickly. He removed his dress clothes and got into jeans, t-shirt, and sneakers.
