No problem. I’ll fully elaborate what I’m looking for when we move into the OOC and have CSes up.

But in a nutshell a little more specialised or maybe even limited? In D&D for example the rough gist is that a spell caster has different level spell slots that get consumed when they cast spells of those respective levels. They refresh when the caster has the opportunity to rest. The more levels they gain the more spellslots they unlock. They generally have several low level spell slots and fewer high level spells.

My worry is simply that some of the spells on the cards are quite powerful (summoning elementals, causing earthquakes/chasms) and the feel I’m going for is one of more common abilities (or maybe better to say with more well defined and limited abilities? Idk)

I suppose if you wanted a bit of context for the range of magical abilities I had in mind, this is a list of the spells available to a sorcerer class in D&D: thebombzen.com/grimoire/tags/sorcerer (again without context and prior knowledge that might not make much sense)

A standard level 5 sorcerer would know a total of 5 cantrips (weak but unlimited use), and 6 spells. They would be able to cast per rest: 4 1st lvl spells, 3 2nd lvl spells and 2 3rd lvl spells.

I feel that’s possibly more detail than required for a none D&D RP, as we won’t be using the spellslot system at all. But it frames the style and idea of how magic works in this world.

I’ll try and have a think and nail it down and properly present it in the OOC, I hope that’s sufficient for now.
@ReedeThe23rd

Certainly not good sir, I would be most happy for you to do so. I did think about tagging you as well in case you did.

@LadyAnnaLee
Yes that is good with me. Have had a quick read through the previous CS and mostly think she would be welcome. The only slight concern is her magical abilities could be perceived as quite powerful. However I like the idea and if you’re open to incorporating her skills into a slightly more traditional type of spell caster I’m sure we can work something out.
The Curse of Strahd Von Zarovich

Under raging storm clouds, A lone figure stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft.

The vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich stares down a sheer cliff at the village below. A cold, bitter wind spins dead leaves about him, billowing his cape in the darkness.

Lightning splits the clouds overhead, casting stark white light across him. Strahd turns to the sky, revealing the angular muscles of his face and hands. He has a look of power and of madness. His once handsome face is contorted by a tragedy darker than the night itself.

Rumbling thunder pounds the castle’s spires. The wind's howling increases as Strahd turns his gaze back to the village. Far below, yet not beyond his ken, a party of adventurers has just entered his domain.

Strahd's face forms a twisted smile as his dark plan unfolds. He knew they were coming, and he knows why they have come-all according to his plan. He, the master of Ravenloft, will attend to them.

Another lightning flash rips through the darkness, its thunder echoing through the castle's towers. But Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the wind-or perhaps a lone wolf-fills the midnight air. The master of Raven loft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited.

Adventurers from a foreign land find themselves in Barovia, a mysterious realm surrounded by deadly fog and ruled by Strahd von Zarovich, a vampire and wizard.

Using a deck of tarokka cards to predict their future, a fortune-teller named Madam Eva sets them on a dark course that takes them to many corners of Barovia, culminating with a vampire hunt in Castle Ravenloft. Madam Eva's people are called the Vistani. They travel in covered wagons from world to world, luring strangers into Strahd's domain.

Barovia is a land of ghosts, werewolves, and other fell creatures. The wilderness hides many secrets, including forgotten ruins and battlefields that tell the story of Strahd's life as a conqueror. Adventurers who explore the wilderness find the remnants of Strahd's ancient enemies, not all of them as dead as one might expect.

For the people of Barovia, there is no escape from this harsh. land. The town of Vallaki stands ready to defend itself against the servants of Strahd, but it's far from the sanctuary it purports to be. The village of Krezk lies near the edge of Strahd's domain, its abbey now in the clutches of evil, misguided creatures.

Of all the settlements in Strahd's domain, the village of Barovia is by far the most oppressed. Many of its shops are closed, and the locals have succumbed to despair. It is well known. that Strahd desires the burgomasters’s adopted daughter, Ireena Kolyana. The villagers neither protector nor harm her, lest they incur the vampire’s wrath. Few know that Ireeria bears an uncanny resemblance to Tatyana, Strahd’s dead beloved.

The village of Barovia cowers in the shadow of Castle Ravenloft, Strahd's home and fortress. The castle stands atop a great spire of rock, invincible and ever watchful. Every night, thousands of bats fly out of the castle to feed. It is said that Strahd sometimes flies with them. Barovia will never be safe until the evil in his castle is destroyed.

Hello and welcome to my interest check. This will be based upon the classic Dungeons & Dragons adventure, The Curse of Strahd. That being said it is not going to be a D&D RP, but a more traditional RP experience that focuses more on collaborative writing, charcters and a shared plot, rather than any kind of mechanic. It will however, be based in a very similar universe as D&D in regards to magic, ‘race’ and ‘class’, though more creativity will be allowed in the character creation.

Depending on the level of interest and the kind of character ideas that come forth, our protagonists will likely be part of a pre-existing group that finds themselves drawn into Barovia via a plea for help – as this will give us more of a base for interesting interactions and relationships. So keep this in mind when thinking about your backgrounds. However, should there be one or more characters that do not fit into this start, it isn’t too much of a problem as there is a slightly more open-ended introduction that can apply to them.

I will play the roll of ‘DM’ in the sense that I’m not going to have my own character, but rather oversee the introduction of NPCs, settings and the like and try and keep everything moving in the right direction.

In terms of plot and progression I intend to keep things moving and linked together as much as our characters allow. That being said, this will be an ‘open’ world in terms of your characters can do what they wish, but please do remember this is a plot driven narrative, and it sure would be good if all characters had the ultimate shared goal of ‘defeat Stradh and/or escape Barovia’ (or at least something that fits in with the story in an interesting and constructive way).

This will of course have a mild horror theme, something central to the plot and setting. So balanced and not overpowered characters are a must. I think I’ll generally not be accepting anyone who lies too far beyond a more ‘normal’ individual or adventurer in terms of power or capabilities. Of course, you’re heroes and heroines, and lie above the average commoner by quite a bit, however I’d the majority of any very powerful abilities should come from, not before, our adventure. For example, traditionally, strong fighters are not the smartest, powerful mages are weak and sickly, archers aren’t too durable – you get the picture, balance. If you’re real good at something, I expect you to also have some weaknesses to round things out. And of course there can be exceptions to rule, but it’s gotta be good.

Also it may be worth keeping in mind that anyone out of the ordinary (ie non-human races and spellcasters) are very unusual in Barovia and may find it difficult to befriend the locals.

Because this RP is based in, but not using the D&D world, combat will be more realistic in the sense you don’t have a pool of hit points to draw upon – damage is real and owie. Fortunately magic and such can offer a limited remedy to these issues when available. I will be using some dice behind the scenes to determine the outcome of certain actions, but this will certainly not be the focus.

All the usual RP & Guild rules you’d expect apply. I’m not going to list them.

Should you have any questions or are interested please let me know.

I’m aiming for the imaginary standard of High-Casual. I encourage all who desire to apply. I’m not a huge stickler for spelling and grammar, as long as it reads well and you’re making an effort to contribute to the shared world-building and story we’re making in a positive way, we’re all good. This will likely be posted in the casual RP section of the site. If that discourages you, well then, please feel free to be discouraged.

I’ll iron out the specifics of character creation and whatnot in an OOC should we gather sufficient attention.

Post frequency, I’d like to aim for a minimum of weekly, but we’ll see how everything goes. Disclaimer: I intend to take control of those who disappear and make them my little NPC plot playthings. Refunds will be on a case by case basis. Joking aside, all I require is communication - otherwise see above.

Also brief note to say that I’m taking up the idea of doing this from a previous RP that did not get off the ground.

I’ll continue to lurk.

Say what kinda time period were you thinking? We shooting Nazi’s with bolt actions or Pirates with AKs?
Greetings and welcome to the site.

Hopefully you will find what you desire and get stuck into some good content.
Yo! I’m interested in this.

I’ll likely get to work on some kind of party animal character. With the current cast I’ll go female to round things out, but should others apply that may change.

As for powers, I’ll have a think about that. What would you think about some kind of super speed? Limited by control (I.e it’s super hard to control) and maybe it messes up the ‘light’ reaching their eyes and so they can’t see when they use it either?

Might have to rewatch the original show. Been quite some time.
The sand beside her exploded as several well placed shots narrowly missed her and sent plumes of it in the air.

Swearing again she could see now that the fire being directed towards her was mostly from the jeep towards the rear as they shifted their attention to her. Just then the MG flatbed lurched to life again and began to move forwards as another little prick started firing it at the Nimirs. But she couldn’t focus on that right now.

She gritted her teeth as more sand exploded around her and she zeroed in on those responsible. The gunfire and grenade explosion had filled the up until now somewhat peaceful night with the sounds of a warzone. She was glad that she was a little outside of that chaos, even if she could hear the sounds of rounds screaming through the air mere millimetres from her head. The fuckers had some kind of AR and at this range she knew that she’d be dead in moments.

Fortunately for her it looked like at that moment least one of her comrades began taking a few shots at them, so she took the opportunity and took her aim. There’d likely only be one chance to hit them before they got her and so as soon as she was confident she had a clear shot she fired in short rapid bursts of two - as least as fast as she could whilst still maintaining the accuracy she needed. Her intention was to eliminate them as they shot at her, or at the very least suppress them long enough so she could focus back on the MG. She had seven rounds remaining in the mag and was intending on keeping the last one for the new gunner before having to reload – of course providing she managed to achieve what she needed first.

Her heart was pounding, and she felt more alive than she had in a long time. Despite the fact that she could be mere moments away from dying in the desert a grin had subconsciously spread across her face as she exchanged another few shots with one of the men crouched beside the jeep.
Sadness. But all good, poke me when it does.

The distant sound of conflict continued to resonate somewhere just off from where the group was gathered.

“Fuck” sighed Rachel as she continued to struggle with the situation.

Maybe this guy was right and they did need to get the fuck out of New Brazil. Shit, she hadn’t even thought about the ramifications of what was happening. She knew the whole city was covered in surveillance, there was no way they weren’t all being watched from at least four different angles right now even. There would be no going back to normal life - not right now anyway. Even if she did somehow manage to slip away and hold up somewhere it wouldn’t exactly but a walk in the park to stay hidden without having to live like one of those old-world tinfoil hat wearing fuckers.

Plus it was starting to sound like this ‘event’ whatever the fuck it was, was beginning to spread and create chaos throughout New Brazil. What if there were more explosions and more freakos out there and this was just the beginning?

A sudden burning desire to throw away everything that up until now had been her life blazed in her mind. To walk up to the precipice and take a leap.

As Grunge outlined the beginnings of a plan she continued to actually consider it. Yeah, she could join them on a semi-suicidal heist and hit the water stores and then flee into the neutral zone like some anarchist-criminal – why the fuck not? She glanced over at High Boy and was struck with another sudden prang. The prang of wanting to join him and indulge in one of the many little party treats she had in her bag. But being that buzzed and actually having to do shit? Nah, she’d hold off… for now anyway she resolved to hold off until a more appropriate time.

“Fuck it. I’m in” she stated flatly.

As she again began to search through the belongings of the nearby security corpses. A few moments later she found what she was after and somewhat awkwardly inserted the datastrip into the cuffs which a moment later disengaged and dropped to the ground.

The trip to the water stores actually went pretty uneventfully. Some small talk in which they each introduced themselves, she’d made sure to leave out her last name, after all who knew how popular she’d be if they realised she was related to one of big Cartelli dynasties.
As they travelled it became clear that things were turning into full scale riots throughout the city, but specifically it was getting worse as they reached their destination.

‘This is fucking crazy…’

It looked like almost half of New Brazil had decided that the Water Stores was the place to be.

They stood gazing out amongst the crowded chaos and everything felt pretty fucking surreal.

“Any Ideas?” asked Johnny.

She raised her eyebrows and bit down on a sarcastic comment as she watched the fighting before them. After a few moments of observation it became clear that the huge swarm of rioters were all forcing their ways into the front of the place.

“Shit, there any side entrances we could slip into?” she asked. “Looks like they’ve got their hands full dealing with this lot…”

She gazed out over the angry and swarming crowd and a prang of sadness hit her. Look at all these stupid bastards, a writhing mass of humanity that were here because they wanted water. She was sure it wouldn’t be too long before the corpo skull crackers turned up to deal with them – and then things would get real ugly real fast.

“Whatever we do we should do it sooner rather than later…” she added as she continued to gaze out at the crowd.
