Stop being passive aggressive. Just be aggressive.

It is certainly not 'optimal', but it *is* doable, depending on what you want to do with it. You could go swords or valor bard and play them more like a warrior with some magical ability

Wah D: I'm sorry to hear that boss D:

Its okay, Japanese people work too much anyway #nofunzone
It's gonna be interesting to see what ties us all together. A convenient trade caravan that doesn't mind mages? A run in with the legion gone bad?
Whoop, and my character is now complete and updated to the char tab. Now to get cracking on the actual IC
While everyone is part of the same squad, they're not necessarily the same fireteam- they'll just happen to be corralled together when the shit hits the fan.
@CaptainBritton and @icmasticcs' character sheets are both accepted. I'll quickly get mine written up and we'll get started!

This means that as of now, Tin Men is now closed to further interest and character applications.
@DeadDrop You can add more detail if you'd like. As long as it gets the point across really.

Anyway, I'll get feedback for the rest of the CS's tomorrow
OOC Here we are everybody. Those who've been accepted feel free to post in the CS section.

Name: Duncan Webb
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Ethnicity/Nationality: English/American
Rank: Lance Corporal
Role: Designated Marksman

Physical Description:
Prior to surgery, Duncan Webb stood at an impressive 6'3", and came in at around 200 lbs. Now, bound to his wheelchair, he's closer to just over 4 and a half. Other then the wheelchair, Duncan has a fairly forgettable face: square features, a lightly tanned skin tone, and curly brown hair.

Webb's RI-1 Shell is an interesting piece of work. The unit's helmet is painted a dark grey with a design motif reminiscent of a medieval knight's helmet - that is the personal work of the morning shift pilot, Terrence McKnight. On the right shoulder plate the second operator painted the black image of the mandalorian Krybes, an image from a classic sci fi franchise. On the left chest, over where the human heart would be is the image of a large dark gray and white target with a red dot in the center, with the words "Shoot here" written under them in bright red blocky letters - Webb's personal addition.

Psychological Analysis:
Relaxed and lazy, yet competent and acceptably professional, Duncan Webb is a confident and efficient soldier. A generally good natured man with strong feelings of camaraderie towards teammates, Webb is fairly friendly, and talkative, often making sarcastic jokes or face-palm worthy puns even when knee deep in mud or face down in the dirt, and tends to make self-deprecating jokes from time to time. Gung-ho and loyal, Webb cares little about the for politics and puts the survivablity of his team above all. Casually boastful of his abilities, Webb has a can-do attitude towards most tasks, and his typically a relaxed and easy going temperament makes him able to keep calm in most circumstances. His confidence and boastful nature often come off as arrogant or ignorant, but his comrades have generally concluded most of his big talk to be hot air to lighten the mood.

Service Record:
Duncan Webb was the oldest of three, and only son of a police officer and nurse. The oldest, and only son in a household of 3 children, Duncan was quick to assume the role of "secondary man of the house" at a young age, to help his parents take care of the family and house. With the increased responsibility, as well as living with a police officer, Duncan had a fairly rigid childhood, as his parents sent him to military academies for most of his youth, hoping to iron down the relatively troublesome and mischievous antics and acting out Duncan had a habit of getting into during his youth. As a youth Duncan performed well in school and sports alike, excelling in mathematics as well as athletics, though was often disciplined for disrupting class, fighting and arguing with teachers and students. Nevertheless, Duncan graduated with honors, and upon graduating from high school Webb declined a scholarship from the Virginia Military Institute and instead went to UC San Diego.

Duncan graduated from UC San Diego, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After spending a one year stint with volunteer firefighters, Webb enlisted in the US Marines, and underwent training in San Diego. After completing basic training, Duncan went to DM School, and became a marksman. Six months later he married his college sweetheart, shortly after which Duncan was shipped off to the opposite side of the world to protect American interests in Korea. Involved in a campaign against an increasingly aggressive North Korea, Duncan found himself pitted in intense combat for days at a time.

Halfway through his third tour in Korea, Duncan's squad were pinned down in Kaesong. During the intense conflict, Duncan was shot twice and was hit by a blast of shrapnel from a distant grenade. As a result, Duncan had severe nerve damage and partial paralysis resulting in him being unable to move his legs. While in the hospital, one of the doctors mentioned something about the Remote Infantry Corps as his only option to get the sensation of walking again.

Instead of being discharged Duncan instead signed up for the Remote Infantry Program, and upon graduating was assigned to the 1st Remote Infantry Division where he has spent much of the past year.

  • HK417A2 rifle with 12 inch accurized barrel with deployable bipod attached.

Tin Men

Facing continuous political upheaval, massive economic collapse, a major energy crisis, and environmental disaster on a global scale, the world has been engulfed in chaos of near apocalyptic proportions. The EU and other World-wide organizations have collapsed, and alliances are breaking down as countries compete with one another for the world's dwindling resources. In this sea of anarchy, the only thing that separates order from anarchy, as nations wage free-for-all-battle for survival and supremacy, is the military might of the United States, who are determined to keep the peace- whether other countries want them to or not.

But such unprecedented conflict worldwide requires as unprecedented of a military force. Enter the Remote Infantry Corps: robotic soldiers deployed in warzones around the world, controlled by human operators thousands of miles from the action. These Remote Infantry- dubbed Tin Men, are highly resilient machines, unfazed by fatigue and possessing of the intellect and decision making prowess only a trained soldier could provide. While the Tin Men are not indestructible, the soldiers piloting these machines have little to fear about possible injuries or sickness. Immune to injury and death, and seemingly untiring, this new breed of American warrior has a battlefield edge that's all but unstoppable. With their powerful new tools of war, the American military has forcefully begun policing the entire world, and bringing its anarchy to heel.

Or so it would seem.

When a routine patrol through the civil-war stricken streets of Syria goes awry and the men and women of the 1st Remote Infantry Division finds themselves cut off from headquarters, they must make a desperate push out of hostile territory towards home. However, such a daunting task is easier said than done, and far less simpler than originally believed.

With the men and women of the 1st Remote Infantry Division finding themselves facing up against foreign nations, sick and tired of being under the heel of American occupation; anarchists, ranks swelling with rocket-wielding “Bot Killers”; and even each other, it’s the worst possible time for the Tin Men to face their most crucial mission. An economic summit under terrorist attack, the U.S. president running for his life, and more, the Tin Men must take the fight to the next level—if they want to be the last combatants standing, and not the first of their kind to fall forever.

Plot and Context

Hello and welcome to the interest check for 'Tin Men', a military RP based in the alternate near-future, when America has become something of a Freedom enforcing equivalent of the schoolyard bully, forcing its will upon the smaller, less influential nations. In this alternate universe, organizations such as NATO, EU, the UN, etc still exist, but are considerably less powerful or influential. America is not the only major power in the world, however, due to the energy crisis and general economic crash the world is in, most countries tend to keep to themselves and look out primarily for their own interests. Thus America has taken upon itself the role of international peacekeeper, and have deployed its forces to various locations across the world- much to the chagrin of other nations.

Political intrigue aside, this RP will focus primarily on the struggles and tribulations of a single squad of the 1st Remote Infantry Division, as they struggle to survive in an increasingly hostile place. This RP will try to adhere to some sense of realism, and will aim to be a dark and gritty military RP- so if those aren't your cup of tea, this probably isn't the RP for you. I want this RP to focus on a relatively small group, so I'm going to try to put the character limit at 4-5 players total. As such, this RP is not first come, first served.
OOC Information

Alonso, a tired, dreary little down who was but a shadow of its former self. It was a tiny, sleepy, quiet little down, with its town square being the center of activity. Activity was a generous term, rather the town square was the largest cluster of stone buildings that still stood inhabited and had the safest open space for what little trade there was to take place. Standing at the foot of the square, a few doors away from the Town Hall was the Black Boar Tavern.

Judging by the size of the tavern, it must have, at one point been a bustling center for drink and laughter, a big two story building with plenty of sleeping space in the rooms above, and an ample sized room on the main floor to support a large bar and several tables of customers, with a hearth at the end to provide warmth and light to the building. Though as of late, the tavern, like much of the town, had fallen into a state of disuse and squalor. Tables and chairs sat empty, some stacked on top of each other to be put away and just left there. Fewer than a dozen souls sat inside the tavern, the vast majority of them being members of the Legion who had the resources and time to lounge around drinking shoddy ale.

On the small porch outside the tavern, little more than a bit of wood flooring and a pair of stools under a wooden overhang, sat Odran, sheltered from the rain as he observed the antics of the Legion in Alonso. His cloaked form rocked gently on a stool, leather rucksack sitting at his side, and a wide brimmed hat of shoddy leather shading his eyes from view. In front of his foot sat an empty bowl, once filled with soup handed out by the Legion, while his hands clutched at a well worn, but well crafted cittern, his fingers strumming idly and softly played a simple tune as he watched them from afar.

They shouted and gestured and offered a chance at greatness and a full belly as they attempted to entice people of the sad little town to join their ranks. While Odran had no doubt that they'd be able to claim some men and women from this town, most of the spirits in this town were too broken to be of any particular use to any armed force. The majority of this town were just tired souls meandering around until they eventually passed on.

Odran had no bone to pick with the Legion, and wasn't too keen on attracting the attention of men who were actively seeking for mages to either murder or conscript. It was probably time to move on from Alonso all the same. He'd only been here about a few weeks, but it was plain to see there was little more for him here. Maybe he'd find a caravan that didn't hate mages- or maybe he found one that hated him but found magic useful enough to bring him along.
