Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

For a few moments Fanilly merely sat and listened to Tyaethe's explanations. A Captain who wished to level punishment against the Starlight Saint? What was she thinking to even have suggested that? It seemed... incredibly foolish, to say the least. However, before she could open her mouth top make her own response, something finally sunk in to her. The senior knight had, in fact, praised her as Captain. The blonde girl's cheeks colored with embarrassment as she averted her eyes nervously. Praise? But... but it had mostly been the acts of her knights that had won both of the prior missions, had it not? She had some luck, but in the end her role in things was not so pronounced... she was hardly worthy of such praise!

"... I-I... I see," Fanilly said, hesitating, before continuing her response. "But, ah, er... I-I am not worthy of much praise, er... my capabilities are surely beneath any previous Captain..."

Now that she had spoken her doubts, it was difficult to get rid of them.
Would you mind explaining how she went from Mercenary to knight a bit more?
@Noodles: Okay, a couple things.

There is an illegal slave trade, but it's a high crime. Slave traders get outright killed when found unless they actually surrender. Same goes for slave owners.

Basically keeping them out in a field if you're staying in one area would be a very bad idea.

Secondly, can she have been part of the knights for at least a year or more? I'd like some more knights who aren't totally new. ^^;
"Ah?" Tomoko paused for a moment, before taking a deep breath.

"The vase is designed to target what it deems... 'non-valuable' sources of mana," she explained, "And it doesn't even target humans unless specifically told to. I don't think it can drain spells without any kind of alteration. In any case, hopefully my daughter can help you find any evidence there might be. She placed several of the latest spells as part of her training."

Toshiko folded her arms, eyebrow raised.

"Is there some reason you can't show us yourself?" she asked. That, after all, was really rather suspicious. Was there a particular reason that Tomoko couldn't do it herself, or...?

".. Oh, my, forgive me," replied the black-haired woman hastily, "I've been... today has been rather hectic and, er... I've been reestablishing a barrier spell placed on this room. None of the books were taken, but it was... It's strange, this isn't even close to the room the vase was stored in."

How... strange. That was certainly unusual. If what Tomoko said was true, this room was hardly a good entry point for a thief. And yet the barrier had been disabled?

"Do you know how it was disabled?" Toshiko queried.

"Well, one of the sigils was just... gone," the black-haired woman replied, "I can show you if you like, but I'd like you to check out the site of the theft first. Yuuno!"

Well, it seemed that the daughter would be there soon regardless.

The fashion sense of the girl who proceeded to enter the room shortly after was rather unusual, though it still fell under the realm of gothic lolita. She looked, perhaps, like she was in her early teens.

"Sure sure," she said, waving her hand, "This is... Ando-san aaaaand..."

She trailed off for a few moments, staring at Ryuuko. Toshiko decided to let her pupil introduce herself, this time.
The woman took another deep breath.

"It's... a vase. My grandfather left it to me, and..." she hesitated for a few moments, as if worried about being heard by someone else, someone who wasn't meant to be getting all this information. "It looks like a vase, rather. But in truth, that's not an accurate description. It's a magical construct created for the explicit purpose of gathering and storing ambient mana for the use of the wielder."

Toshiko nodded, quietly. Mana was not only found in magi and onmyouji. It was found inside of every human being, albeit not in a usable form for most of them. Beyond that, it was also simply found naturally occurring in the environment. The limitless origin did not grant mana only to magi. But magi could take advantage of ambient mana to bolster their abilities. An exhausted mage could take advantage of ambient mana to keep casting and defending themselves, though drawing on ambient mana did require a little more knowledge. It was knowledge that most magi received through their lessons.

"But it can do more then that," Tomoko continued, "When used properly it can also take the mana from individuals. Enough to kill them. It's a distasteful, parasitic relic, but it was still granted to me by my grandfather. Therefore it's something I can't simply destroy or abandon."

She took another deep breath, her gaze turning downward.

"And now it's been stolen."

A vase that could kill by taking mana? Certainly, there's plenty of reasons that someone would want something like that.

"Are the defenses inactive?" Toshiko asked, "We'd like to take a look at the scene of the theft."

"Ah? Oh, yes, My daughter can show you to the room."
Thaaaat's reliant on Medea thinking this is a good idea I imagine. ^^;
@harinezumikouken: Strictly for things relevant to Marianne, um...

Tiral said he wanted to food and responded to Marianne talking about her workaround, and Indrau introduced himself.
I'm still here.
Fanilly took a deep breath. She knew that Mayon's guidance must have been a factor in her current victories... But at the same time, she had to try harder. She had to prove to everyone that it was worth believing in her. That is was worth following her as Captain. But for now, she asked for Mayon's guidance. If nothing else, it would help sooth her doubts. And... perhaps, even if that was the case, was it not true that Mayon had faith in her enough to merely watch? That was somewhat comforting, in the end. But it did little to erase alls her worries, at the moment.

It was then that Tyaethe spoke, mentioning how some captains of the Iron Roses had no care for religion. To Fanilly, the Iron Roses' duty was above all the protection of the innocent. This both meant directly defending them and also taking care of threats to the innocent. Those who would harm the weak who could not defend themselves. For the sake of those who could be preyed upon, of those who could not fight for themselves. That was why the Iron Rose Knights existed, regardless of the faith of those they protected. But the Danbalion family was quite religious. It was possible that, had Fanilly not been born under a full moon, she may have found a place as a Priestess in the Church of Mayon. Of course, it was more likely that she would have simply remained nobility with no real military role, as her family had been for quite some time.

Fanilly was uncertain how she felt about those possibilities.

When Tyaethe asked what she would do if the Starlight Saint of Roses returned, however...

"If... if Saint Elionne were to return, I would step down," Fanilly replied, without much hesitation. She could not justify remaining in that position if the first Captain of the Iron Rose Knights returned. She didn't deserve this position nearly as much as Elionne Carthet, the Slayer of the Black Knight of Duiren Ghas and a True, Unquestionable, Faithful Saint of Mayon. Indeed, in spite of the period of time since her disappearance, it could never be said that Saint Elionne would not return. "There is no way I am as deserving of this position as the Starlight Saint."
I'm sorry to hear that, you said you were having trouble getting involved in stuff?
