Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

Arturia Pendragon, Saber - Babylonia

Skeleton after skeleton was felled by the cloaked Excalibur, falling apart into nothing but piles of dusty bone. Space cleared around her, Saber glanced up. The army had cleared a space, and the hulking Servant atop the enormous skeletal elephant had dismounted to challenge Lancelot. She nodded to herself. She felt no small amount of confidence, at the very least, in the capabilities of her fellow knight. He was an utterly insurmountable combatant. His battle would be one on one.

Saber would take care of the rest of the army.

A skeletal commander stood ahead, clearly in control of no small subsection of the army, if not everything directly beneath the Servant himself. As a result, Saber's target became clear. There was a field of skeletons ahead of her, but indeed, they wouldn't be able to stop her.

Placing one armored foot firmly forward, Saber held her blade behind herself. There was a blast of wind from behind her as she released Invisible Air, the earth beneath her torn apart from the force of the blast, the gleaming, golden shape of Excalibur briefly visible, its resplendent light shining across the battlefield. Then, the blast carried her forward with tremendous speed and force. Skeletons were tossed aside and knocked apart from the air current displaced from her motion. She tore a thick scar clear through the undead legion, before her feet slammed into the ground and she raised Excalibur and swung it in a downwards arc, aiming to slice the skeleton commander apart in a single stroke.

Kobayakawa Yumi - Babylonia

"Maybe he's strong, but Lancelot still only has one opponent," replied Yumi, folding her arms firmly across her chest. She was certain the other Saber would destroy her opponents, but she also had many more of them that could swarm her. As a result, it was possible that it would take her longer. Lancelot had only one target to focus on, which meant that he could afford to give all his attention to swiftly slaying the enemy Servant. "So I don't think there's any question that he'll win!"

Sasegawa Hikaru, the Stalwart Lightning Detective of Yamamura

Hikaru listened quietly as Maiko had given her explanation. Indeed, this had confirmed her suspicions at the very least. Nothing out of the ordinary(at least for Umeda Masato) had occurred leading up to his disappearance. Not a single change had occurred in the way that he behaved, he didn't even express any concern about the disturbing imagery that Strange Gospel began to display after its Apocrypha update. As a result, Hikaru could at the very least fully confirm there was no warning to what was about to occur, to threat. It made sense, in most cases one would expect that one of the victims would have attempted to tell their friends and family that someone was threatening them, or at least to begin behaving strangely. The suddenness indicated to Hikaru that it was abrupt and without any sort of warning.

While this had been speculated upon, it was nice to gather another source of information that seemed to confirm it. Still, she had at least one another question to ask of the girl.

"What are your experiences with Strange Gospel?" Hikaru asked, waving her hand to indicate her lack of interest in the newspaper. It wasn't anything she hadn't seen before, and idle speculation, no matter how informed, was still idle speculation. The newspaper wouldn't be able to provide her anything new at the moment.

For a few moments, Ayumi was too stunned to react when her bokken exploded, charred wood and electrical sparks scattered across the area, some crumbling to ash and others smouldering on the ground. Her feet hit the ground as the enormous skeleton was sealed away. As the gashadokuro was reduced to a skull, she quietly held up her hands and starred at them. They crackled with electricity. But.. how? How could she be doing something like this? Almost numb to the situation, the girl dully turned and headed through the portal. It was all so... overwhelming, the fact that she could produce electricity from her hands, powerful enough to make her bokken explode, was icing on the cake so to speak. After a few moments of simply staring at her hands as the priest tried to explain so many things to everyone, she finally remembered herself.

There was one pressing thought on her mind. The electricity had faded, but the moment she concentrated again it flared to life and circulated around her fingers.

"... Why am I electric?"

It was dully asked, her attitude tinged by her shock, as she raised one crackling hand.
I'll post again when there's another update from @PaulHaynek!
Sasegawa Hikaru, the Stalwart Lightning Detective of Yamamura

Hikaru couldn't help but let out a sigh at that initial reaction. Try as she might, she couldn't really understand just why the girls at her high school suddenly latched onto her like that. It had become somewhat frustrating clearing her locker of love letters almost every day, and having to turn down several confessions didn't seem to dissuade them. Indeed, the mindset of these girls was perhaps a mystery that Hikaru would never solve. But then again, romance was hardly one of her main pursuits, so she didn't particularly care to understand the motivations behind it. Unless a romance pertained to a case she had taken on it was simply irrelevant.

"Nevertheless, it's important I ensure that we have obtained all the facts, even if it means going over information that's previously been discussed," the short-haired detective explained. To be perfectly frank, Hikaru personally held doubts about the aptitude of some of the local detectives. At the very least, though, Soma-san was the respectable type who threw himself into his work. Some of the others, however... well, they could have missed some details in Hikaru's opinion.

"To begin with, do you recall any strange behavior prior to the disappearance? Did your brother do anything out of the ordinary?" she asked. Even if there wasn't, it was important to establish the victim's whereabouts prior to the crime. If it was as Hikaru suspected, there would have been little to no change in the victim's habits. Beyond, perhaps, nervousness about the nature of Strange Gospel, but that was a trait shared by both victims and potential victims.

Everyone who had used Strange Gospel, including Hikaru herself, was categorized in the latter. If worse came to worse, the detective even considered using herself as bait.

Sasegawa Hikaru, the Stalwart Lightning Detective of Yamamura

The thoughts that swirled through the dark red-haired head of Yamamura High School's steely detective were remarkably disjointed. To her consternation, none of it made very much sense yet. At least, so far it didn't. The app was very nearly indecipherable, coded in an extremely complicated fashion. There were discernible patterns, but none of those patterns were indicating anything clear. Worse yet, any attempts to trace the videos went through multiple proxies before finally vanishing. It didn't make any sense. As for how to connect the app to the disappearances, it seemed to lack any way of tracking its users. To put it simply, evidence was quite a bit difficult to come by.

In spite of this fact, Sasegawa Hikaru was not shaken. Even if local law enforcement was struggling with the case, she was not referred to as the Lightning Detective for nothing. Her speed at discovering and analyzing evidence was not possible to deny. If it was nearly impossible to analyze the app itself, then perhaps Hikaru would be able to discern patterns in the disappearances themselves. Adjusting her hat, she proceeded down the street. There were a few of her fellow students she had been directed to question. Among them was one Umeda Maiko.

Umeda was, from the picture that Hikaru had been provided, a rather sporty girl who sported an energetic attitude. It was only a cursory analysis of the slightly older girl from a still image, however. Hikaru would have to meet her, first, in order to discover anything of value.

As such, Hikaru had decided to approach the girl's place of part-time work. It would be a simple questioning session, relatively unintrusive and a simple bid to gather information. After all, Umeda Maiko was hardly a suspect. Still, it was best for the interrogation to occur in a timely fashion with few delays.

What luck it was, then, that she intercepted the girl carrying a bag of newspapers.

Swiftly, Hikaru made her approach.

"Umeda Maiko-san?" the redhead began, "I'm Detective Sasegawa Hikaru. I'd like to ask you a few questions."

Of course, it was likely that the girl already knew of Yamamura's new detective... as a boy.

  • Name: Sasegawa Hikaru
  • Age: 15
  • Gender: Female(as of now everyone should believe her to be male)
  • Appearance: Hikaru has light skin, very dark red hair, dark red eyes, and tends to wear black clothing. She is just under five feet tall. Copious amounts of binding are involved.
  • Personality: Hikaru is a very serious individual. Her belief is that she must focus on her work as a detective above all else, even to the detriment of all other aspects of her life. Wishing to honor her father's memory, and to be taken seriously, Hikaru disguises the fact that she is a girl. She believes that others would doubt her skills and think that she only achieved her dream of being detective because her father was a highly respected detective himself. She is deeply self-conscious of this fact and fears that this belief would tarnish her father's memory, and therefore she hides her femininity. Hikaru has no friends to speak of, dedicating most of her free time to detective work. She is proud of her work, and takes pride in doing things properly. When she cooks, she follows recipes to the letter. When she works, she carefully inspects every single angle. Hikaru is very blunt and to the point, and somewhat unhesitating to call others stupid or foolish. This is both due to scorn at times and due to her tendency to plainly state what she perceives. Hikaru is very self-conscious about her femininity, and hides her figure in concealing clothing as a result. She is actually quite easily embarrassed or flustered in spite of her blunt attitude, but it's not likely that anyone will find it easy to do so while she still is believed to be male. Finally, Hikaru has difficulty understanding romance or why anyone would desire it with her, feeling very awkward about the prospect. While she is celebrated by the police, she also is aware of being resented for her youth.
  • Skills: Hikaru is extremely intelligent and analytical, excellent at observation and analysis of her surroundings. A skilled detective in spite of her young age, Hikaru has solved multiple cases, including murders, using her capabilities. She is also a remarkably capable cook, but only when using recipes. She also excels at marksmanship, being trusted with a revolver in spite of her young age and the strict gun control laws in Japan(obviously not on school grounds).
  • Equipment: Hikaru carries with her, when she is not on school grounds, a police-issue revolver. Aside from that, most of her typical detective equipment is on her person at all times. This includes the means to dust for fingerprints and various other methods of observation.
  • Soul Arts: BANG! A Shocking Development!!! - Hikaru's Soul Art is inserted directly into her palm. Once inserted, she gains a translucent pistol alongside her revolver, which can fire bolts or bullets of electricity. The bolts are more powerful, but the bullets can hone in on her targets.
  • Brief Backstory: Hikaru was born to Sasegawa Mami and Sasegawa Ryouji. Sadly, her mother passed away not long after her birth, leaving her to be raised by her father. Hikaru was brought up on stories of justice, stories of detective work paying off in getting the bad guy. Naturally, her own dreams were formed by this, and she made the decision to become a detective herself, just like her father. This goal was furthered by her naturally high intelligence and analytical attitude. Unfortunately, none of this could prepare her for her father's death on the case. Now living with a friend of her family's, Aoi Yumeko, Hikaru resolved to become a detective who could uphold the Sasegawa family name and carry on her father's legacy. Fearing that she would be treated as nothing more then the product of nepotism due to detective work largely being a male profession, Hikaru decided to hide her female nature and pretend to be male. Working with the police force, she has solved multiple cases that include several murders. She is currently assigned to the Strange Gospel case. At Yamamura High, she is believed to be male and has a very long list of female admirers.
I feel bad about triple posting again, but I'd like to make it clear that everyone can sign up with up to two characters, including if you're using a villain.

I'm saying this because I decided to introduce a human character to help out with some things. ^^;

... Before anyone says anything, I know she is basically Naoto(the one Persona 4 character I know anything about) but that was by accident until I realized what I'd done and just decided to roll with it. ^^;
Incidentally, I'd like for everyone to somehow run into each other before I get things going.

If you're having trouble with that, I can post to help out with it, but at the moment I'd like everyone to meet somehow.
