9:15pm Day 11

Nikki's watch alarm woke her up. She sat up and pulled her boots on. "Eric...it's time." He rolled over and up onto his feet yawning. He watched as she loaded up the knives, the ammo and the guns. The sword was slung over in it's sheath on her back over her trenchcoat. Eric came over to her while putting his jacket on "I'm sorry, I don't want you mad at me, especially now." He kissed Nikki and she wrapped her arms around his neck. "Good, I have enough people to be mad at." She took his hand and led him out of the room.

When she got to the front hall by the cafeteria. The others all trickled out the members of the guard put their numbers up to 23. Nikki did a weapons check with everyone. She made sure everyone had something decent to fight with. She also asked James to get a couple of rolls of duct tape and she grabbed a couple of boxes and brought them over. They were full of magazines. James looked at her "Why are we taking magazines? Are we going to bore them to death with issues of brides magazine?" Several of the men laughed and Eric and Matt knew immediately what she wanted.

"No, jackets off and put your arms in the air." She and Eric started at one end of the line and James helped Matt tape the magazines to the front and back torso's of everyone going. "These will offer some protection in combat from blades. Don't forget we are out there with walkers too so stay alert. If you would like to take a couple of extra magazines to stuff in your sleeves for fights and bites be my guest." Several of the men did just that. They had been so focused on fighting the living some of them forgot about having to worry about the dead.

Nikki saw Jenna and she looked frightened for the group that was heading out. She saw her staring at Jon and then Jenna walked over to him quickly and kissed him fiercely "I love you too. Be safe." They embraced tightly and whispered to each other.

Matt smiled at her "Love ya sis, be safe and aim true. Take no prisoners!" She laughed. "five by five" He laughed at that and turned to Eric. "Don't let her kick all their asses on her own her ego gets all bent to hell when that happens." He laughed when Nikki just shook her head. "Da!" Grace said as Matt took her from her mother. Nikki sniffed the baby's neck and tickled her. "This is for you baby girl." Nikki kissed her. "Love you."

Jon and Nikki led the group out to the biggest fight of their lives so far. Matt had a few things up his sleeves and he checked on the kids. He had them sharpening arrowheads and making slingshots out of things from various labs around the school. He had gathered the broken wall pieces and brought them in for ammo to hit the attackers with from above. They were also going to attack from up on the roof. Matt was going to have the bases covered everywhere. He was headed back to the lab to make some more cherry bombs.

Wicked closed her eyes a moment and sighed. "Shiver, Jessica refuses to come to Pixie's funeral and no longer wants to be part of the team." Shiver was in the jail cells about to take Sigma up. At least she was respectful of Pixie's death. Shiver dropped her gaze to her own shoes. "Mom, I don't know what to do with her. You decide. She refuses to try and I give up." Wicked looked at the young mutant who thought of herself as a machine and was as cold as one. "You are not to take anything that the HQ has provided you. None of the uniforms that they gave you or gadgets. You leave only with what you came here with." She took the bracelets off of her. "If your true desire is to leave then go."

Wicked looked at her "WE call you Jessica. WE don't treat you like a weapon. WE treat you like you are one of us even though you clearly don't want to be. We want you to be part of the family. Pixie was not best friends with the girls. She was Velocity's best friend. We all cry for her and if it had been you we would cry for you as well. I was not here but I know that Shiver tried to be closer with you. You frustrate her with your "I'm better than everyone attitude." You are no better than the rest of the team. It is your attitude that needs adjusting and part of that is because you were treated as a machine and part because of your age. Now, you need to settle down and pay your respects to your fallen teammate who would have shown up and been respectful if you were the one in the casket."

"I wish there were another way Haru but these people tossed it out when they attacked us instead of talking to us. It would make us look extremely weak if we went there asking for them to leave us alone after they already attacked us. We are going to do this with the least amount of bloodshed possible. And in order to keep things even quieter we are going to TRY not to use guns. We need the arrow tips sharpened though and we need a lot of arrows. We are going with the thought that they will come here assuming that we are leaving the place defenseless. This is our stronghold. This school is our lifeline. Without it we are animals in the street like they are."

"Clara? Oh you mean Erin's other personality. Unfortunately, Clara is right in this case. It's become a dog eat dog world out there. You are either on our side or you are against us. There is little to no middle ground anymore. If you want to go you need Nikki's approval. Honestly I doubt she will let you go but I could use your skills here."

5:15pm Day 11

Nikki made sure her muscles were ready then she looked at the clock when she heard Jenna announce an early dinner to start at 5:30 because of tonight's events. She looked at her group and they all filed back into the cafeteria The guardsmen that were staying here to fight and defend came in to eat first then they switched and those going out to fight came in so they could eat and get a nap in before time to leave.

Matt stopped her in the hall to let her know what his plans were for placement. After she nodded they walked into the cafeteria to see a three layer birthday cake. The room was dark and filled with people that she worried about surviving the night and yet here they were celebrating her birthday as if it was an ordinary day in the old world. Nikki punched Matt in the arm again. This time he grabbed her and hugged her. "Love ya sis." Jenna came over and hugged her too. After the teasing and laughing Nikki blew out the candles and made her wish. It wasn't a traditional birthday wish but it was an important one. She wished for success and as few casualties on their side as possible. Once that was done Jenna served dinner. After dinner Nikki went to lay down for a nap. Eric joined her but slept in the other bed. She was still upset with him a little bit and so he was keeping his distance.

Jenna was spending her time waiting for Jon to show up after dinner was done. She had listened to Matt and he seemed to have a decent grip on where they needed defense.

James had made a great find. Matt's eyes lit up when he saw it. They had bows and arrows. The arrows were blunt tipped but they could fix that. He vaguely remembered Nikki taking Archery in gym. He had teased her relentlessly for taking that instead of cooking. Matt went directly to Sadie, Mickey and Haru and showed them what he wanted them to do to make the new arrowheads they needed.

Really? Kat and Nikki are the funny ones? I didn't think either of them were funny. Kat is kind of a lost somewhat damaged young woman as is Jenna. All three being ridiculously strong when they have to be. Nikki is actually more gentle than she acts. She was a dancer and a fighter but she had a career starting for dance not fighting.
