Like switching their minds into each other's bodies or us using each other's characters?

P.S. Nobody can set a trap for Evvie.

Each others characters

Not that the other also can't be a thing.

For the dice rolling mechanic we could use this and use the bottom option for a 100 sided dice. Each of our attacks will have a base percentage of doing damage, from 0% to 100%, and based on the circumstances you can up or lower the percentage for the attack. Each character would have a dodge number to start with (a nimble person having 30, for example, meaning they subtract 30% from the enemy's attack) and then how they dodge could also change things. Not being able to move would eliminate all dodge.

Why only subtract 30, if you dodge?

Perhaps a attack-defend roll, with dodging to power damage?

Perhaps;

attack for 100%, defend 75% of that and then the dodge roll be to whether or not you avoid it entirely, depending on the mechanics. But I've never been a dice man, when it comes to actually making a system

Even if they have 100% base accuracy, with the enemy having 30% dodge that reduces you to only a 70% chance of any hit at all. Which I guess is still not bad but for things liking shooting fireballs and stuff you wouldn't start with 100% anyways.

I prefer a roll to hit and then do damage based on the attack power of the attack.

Would still need to find a way to make full dodges possible.

Based on how you dodge it can lower or raise your character's normal dodge rating which include being far away or point blank. You can make the number whatever you feel is right, but if your opponent doesn't like it they can tell you in the OOC and the matter can be figured out by them or a judge to say the final numbers for the accuracy of the attacker and the dodge of the defender for that attack.

I feel like anything above 50% would cause a lot of arguments.

I think.something similar like meeting dodge roll requirements to fully dodge, if you don't them you take the hit based off enemy attack and your own defense.

I take it the dice thing is optional. I would hate to be forced to use dice.

I agree with Skall. Dice are not my thing.

Dice are good in Tabletop, where there's a clearly defined system of movements and actions that you can take. Give or take a few leniencies. There's plenty of room for error in written roleplay though, when it comes to dice.

It should be entirely optional, though encouraged, to use the dice.

I'm with the rest on that. Optional dice.

While I'm an avid tabletop roleplayer, where dice rolls are the norm, I don't feel it suits play-by-post text combat very well. Usually in tabletop fights, the combat comes down to what items you are using, in which order, and where you are standing when you are using them. Then you take measures to increase or decrease certain percentages of your dice rolls for attack and dodge, or whatever, and the rest is up to the gods of random chance. 1v1 duels tend to result in back-and-forth slugfests with little to no -tactic- employed other than different maneuvers and whatnot.

I'm still interested in the random teams of two tournament, that sounded like a cool idea what it first came up back in the day.

The dice was always gonna be optional. hahaha. I would hate to be forced to use them as well. But I think they are a pretty decent option to have.

The only thing I'd use them for is for deciding who post first. :3

Can't go wrong with having more options.

Maybe I missed it, but is there going to be a seperate thread with optional rules?

I thought dice rolls would be for battles specifically for dice rolls and would be mandatory there.

I'll come up with battlefields while at work then get to posting them on here sometime. I'll include some serious ones as well as the crazy ones.

Is a battleground where, if you step on or otherwise ruin the manicured grass, an old man who owns the yard yells at you and shoots lasers out of his eyes, be too silly to include in the battleground thread?

Also, more battle types could be based on different fighting games such as street fighter and mortal combat. So for the street fighter one, everyone can inexplicibly jump high into the air and spin around like a tornado or other unrealistic moves while the mortal combat one would be doing fatalities and stuff.

I don't like the crazy stuff. I prefer simple battle grounds to spill blood. You guys can fight in those exotic places. I am old school, give me a good opponent and let the magic happen.
