To the contrary, you may not, as that can be the nature of crackfics. Hopefully you will though.
You read so many fanfics.

I love to read. :P
Dynamics said
So do I. But I don't really like fanfics.
whizzball1 said
Why not? There's a lot of really good literature that I've been reading on Fimfiction, as masterful as any published work of fiction.
Dynamics said
Because I think it's kind of silly, and I'd rather read real literature. Besides, MLP stuff is meh.

Literature isn't defined by whether it's published or not, or whether it's based on something else or not. I've seen writers that have crafted worlds and plots worthy of an epic. Just because it's based on a show doesn't mean it's not real literature.also be back soon
Dynamics said
No, published doesn't mean literature. Divergent isn't true literature. Neither is Hunger Games.
whizzball1 said
Naturally.

Neither is fanfiction.

"When someone tells a fanfiction writer that they’re “not a real writer,” I say to that person, “You don’t have the slightest idea of what it means to write a scene and a character in the English language, with images and words chock full of received meaning.”"Literature is defined not by it is but it is. Is its plot written well? Do its characters feel real? Is the world plausible? Is the prose balanced? Does it have meaning? Does it strike home? A story is literature when it is written well. To dismiss all fanfiction as non-literature would be to completely ignore the amazing works that people have created. Epic sagas that span huge, complex, and real world-scenes built off of what was originally a small set. Short stories that hit the heart like any professionally written one would. Comedies that rival Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams. Masterfully written prose. Sagas longer than any published series in existence. If you can look at the really good meat of fanfiction and dismiss it as non-literature, then you dismiss literature.
Dynamics said
Okay then. I dismiss all literature."Anyone can write- but not everyone can become an author."I'm a writer, not an author. There are so many books out there that aren't true literature, books that you can read quickly that advance nothing intellectually. Books like "Ender's Game" are literature. "Fallout Equestria" is not.

Fallout: Equestria is obviously not literature. Sometimes the stories with the most recognition are those with the least talent. Let me take a few examples of fanfiction that is actual literature. I can point out, for example, the 99 Worlds Saga. It spans over 4.5 million words. The prose is written beautifully and the grammar is impeccable. The plot behind it is complex and woven with talent and care like that of Tolkien. The world(s) is written no less marvellously, with places, machinations, and mechanics worked out as well as Malazan Book of the Fallen and Narnia. Every single new book in the saga further establishes the competency of the author, and now he's planning to write even more.

We are 3-1. We lost to the recent AAA State champs. We beat the other team, who was decent.

Then I suppose we'll disagree there as well.
whizzball1 said
I believe so. Although it pains me to know that there is a lot of good literature out there you reject and .

If you say so. A fanfic is simply a parody, a writer's extension or take on another work. So I'll take your unhappiness with apathy.
