That is a terrible and completely incorrect view of fanfictions. The good ones, at least.

In you opinion.

A lot of good fanfics only use MLP as a foundation. Some just use an event from the story as a kick-starter for a story that completely leaves the boundaries of the show. For example, Austraeoh (although I don't read that one any more) uses Discord as a catalyst to send Rainbow Dash on a journey east that completely leaves behind Equestria and creates a whole new world with mechanics and plot that the show never could have dreamed of forming.

The Ambassador's Son only takes the simply created world of Equestria, and then turns it into something completely new, and then builds the plot from there, weaving a story that literally breaks the boundaries of the world.

I'm (not necessarily saying my fanfic is going to be good :P) taking the skeleton that the show creators made for the Elements of Harmony and spinning (literally, in story) something completely new, using only the abstract meanings of the elements as a base. The three stories I've mentioned so far have as much merit and talent as any other good literature.

I doubt it'll come close to Ender's Game, or The Giver.

Mine obviously won't. But I dare say that the societies built in Austraeoh rival those in The Giver Quartet and the workings and strategies of The Ambassador's Son rival those of Ender's Game.

EDIT: So very much so that I can't actually decide which is better in either case.

You won't persuade me. Nobody can ever do that. I'm not even in the MLP "fandom" anymore. I'm stl part of the "fanbase," (there's a difference) but the fandom has gotten so immature.

So I'm back. I talked about it with my da and he thought I should stop arguing now so I don't alienate you or anything of that sort. I was going to continuing arguing, for one reason. I know you're really good at arguing, but you're using terrible arguments even though I know you know better. The worst of them so far: Appealing to Authority. Why. First, you make the argument that they're not literature because they're based on another person's work. Thus you imply that they're uncreative and so they aren't literature.

This is a weak argument, as shown when I showed you the immense creativity of the stories I pointed out (99 Worlds, Austraeoh, Ambassador's Son). And then--and then--you use appeal to authority, one of the worst possible tactics known to logos. You basically say that because they aren't Ender's Game and The Giver, they aren't literature. I expect better from you. I'm not going to make any more counter-arguments, since you won't be persuaded, but I am pointing out why I was going to argue with you more, which turned into the reason I won't.

Dude. I'm not
A) Being prideful.
B) Having an argument. I think it's hilarious that you think that I'm actually trying to be very serious about the situation of fanfictions. I'm not forming an airtight debate argument because I'm >not< debating you. I seriously couldn't care less about fanfictions.

And so you decided to aggravate me by saying that you don't think fanfiction (at least the good fiction) is literature despite the fact that you don't care and have never read any of it. At least care that I care and don't blatantly attack it for illegitimate reasons.
