There's no emotional reason for Zero to attempt a combination attack.

This is a good point. Karn and Zero could of probably collaborated on a emotional level, despite not knowing one another too well on the Dragon Job, simply because they both had a emotional reasoning to the situation.
While in this one, Zero and Gideon don't know one another and don't have that shared strong emotional aspect of the situation.
Though I do understand wanting to teamwork aspect, since not a lot of Guildmembers seem to have that down, and it is a needed aspect as a Guildmember.
